It seems very out of character for Harry? Confused I wonder if he misinterpreted and thought she was asking about the lawsuit...

Well they've just plummeted in my estimation.

mrscampbellblackagain · 05/10/2019 18:37

The only people I know who do gushing social media posts about each other are normally about to get divorced Wink

I really am only here to see the dresses and jewels. It is sad that the bitchiness about Kate and Meghan is everywhere. Honestly I actually think it is impossible for some posters to just say they both get horrid stuff said about them. It is not a competition and it is a sad reflection on any poster who just repeats made up crap about any of them.

mrscampbellblackagain · 05/10/2019 18:37

And if any of them hate it so much then they can simply walk away, wouldn't be the first time would it?

mrscampbellblackagain · 05/10/2019 18:39

I really see very little difference between Kate and Meghan, beautiful woman marries rich/powerful man - a story as old as time.

BertrandRussell · 05/10/2019 18:48

“That's the point though. They aren't in the same position at all”

So how famous/important do you have to be to put gushing birthday wishes on your Instagram?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/10/2019 18:48

Yeah, I think the social media accounts have to go. There needs to be ONE “Royal Family” account for all of them. And it needs to be simple factual stuff only. Eg “the Duchess of Cambridge today opened the new wing of X children’s hospital in Exeter” or whatever. Smiley picture of her cutting the ribbon etc. And “Prince Harry announces his engagement to Meghan Markle. They will be married next Spring at Windsor Castle”. Photo of the ring (as people like that shit) and maybe the couple. No need for gushy television interviews. No-one asking “and how exactly did he ask you?” It’s no-one else’s business and frankly I think most people don’t care. If you want the private details then you really should get a life.

Prince Charles started the rot if you ask me, giving his opinion all over the place. Grin

BertrandRussell · 05/10/2019 18:49

“I actually think it is impossible for some posters to just say they both get horrid stuff said about them.”
When was the last time you saw anything negative about Kate in the press?

HarryDaylight · 05/10/2019 18:57

Curlyhaired Assassin You've nailed it. It's become a circus.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/10/2019 19:00

And certainly no fucking repeat of a public funeral procession with bereaved children made to walk behind like they’re on the way to the gallows.

When the queen dies, the Palace should release a statement and open a book of condolence for all those odd members of the public who feel the need to pour out their “grief”, the flag should fly at half mast, the family should have a period of mourning and wear black, but they should do it privately. No TV interviews. The newspapers can have their photo spread of the queen through the years, NOT close ups of “Prince Andrew brushing away a tear” etc. The public should not demand to line the streets to pay their respects in the ghoulish way that so many like to do (WTF, they don’t know that person), in fact does the public even need to know the location and date of the funeral? A funeral shouldn’t be up for public consumption and gossip.

When the family are seen in public for the first time they should just be able to say “we’re all devastated, it’s very hard for the family and those that cared for her. Thankyou for all the kind words.”

And that should be that. No need to make a circus out of someone’s death.

BertrandRussell · 05/10/2019 19:00

The more pictures the better as far as I’m concerned. As I said- I want my money’s worth.

BertrandRussell · 05/10/2019 19:01

It’s always been a circus.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/10/2019 19:06

Has it, though, Bertrand? At the Queen’s coronation did the newspapers speculate about the state of someone’s relationship because of the way they glanced at their spouse for a few seconds? Did they claim that someone was being disrespectful because they weren’t wearing an appropriate hat? Did they discuss at length how odd the choice of choral music was and what that signified about the queen? I don’t think so.

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 05/10/2019 19:07

I think some of the press treatment if Harry and Meghan has been awful. But, I do think it would be best for Harry to back away from public life and live as a private citizen.

He has had the trauma of his mother's death and then seeing it play in the media subsequently. His dad then married the OW.

According to journalists he absolutely hates the press generally, but he must have to manage them on a very regular basis.

He has gone from being considered on almost equal terms to his brother as two young princes to an irrelevance. Every time Kate has had another child he is one step further from the throne.

Although he has a beautiful house, is a newly wed and has a healthy baby he seems unhappy.

He needs to step away.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/10/2019 19:08

As I said- I want my money’s worth.

What a horrible comment. If you want your “money’s worth” take a day off work and go and see them in person cutting a ribbon or something. They don’t owe you their soul.

mrscampbellblackagain · 05/10/2019 19:10

Bertrand - how about the pretty recent thinly veiled allegations that her husband had an affair with her friend - that was pretty nasty.

True, the press have been nicer to Kate in recent times but they certainly weren't in the past. It wasn't racist obviously but topless photos of her being published whilst she was on an overseas tour and had to face the press the next day - that was pretty shit for her I am sure.

But as I said, it is possible to think both Kate and Meghan have had a shit time at the hands of the press. It is not a competition and constantly trying to drag one of them in an attempt to big up the other is stupid.

I do predict though that we are going to see even more pro-Kate articles now that Harry is taking action against the press. The press isn't stupid they know how to stir things up.

RoseQuartzGlow · 05/10/2019 19:12

There's been a lot of speculation about the state of the Queen's marriage. A lot of gossip about Margaret too. However in those days there was much more of a veil between us and them. Once the cameras were let in and we were subjected to Charles and Diana dissing each other in interviews, the rot set in.

mrscampbellblackagain · 05/10/2019 19:13

True Rose. I suspect once the Queen is no longer around the stories will be revealed as to what went on in her marriage.

justasking111 · 05/10/2019 19:14

Have you ever noticed William at events. He watches out for cameras as his security team look out for him. He seems on edge at times. He has no love for the press either. Glad he won the court case re: topless pics of Kate.

Cohle · 05/10/2019 19:14

When was the last time you saw anything negative about Kate in the press?

"Severe morning sickness in pregnancy battled by Kate Middleton may raise a child's risk of autism by 53% 'because nutritional deficiencies brought on by vomiting affect brain development'"

That was a Daily Mail headline two days ago. Charming.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/10/2019 19:17

Maybe the public fund they live off should come only from the membership fees of a Royal fan club Grin. Entry to be the gawping public “audience” at events to be given to fee-paying people only. The people like me who aren’t terribly bothered about the Royal Family as a concept would be happy not to be a part of it all and not to pay for them.

They’d only have lovers not haters and no-one outside the club could have an opinion as they’d no longer be paying for them.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/10/2019 19:46

Totally agree with you about the Instagram nonsense and the egos behind it, CurlyhairedAssassin - also your points about just getting on with the job and keeping schtum. We simply don't need to know the thoughts, opinions or the details about how any of the RF "feel", and what's worked for the Queen all these years could work equally well for others if they chose this route

Trouble is, I'm not sure H&M would choose it. Their particular brand of self obsession may well have reached the point where they'd view suggestions of reticence as victimisation, and we'd probably be treated to a blizzard of friends authorised to speak of their behalf instead

Wishful thinking perhaps, but I honestly feel that the way it's all going signals the end of the monarchy within the next few decades

RoseQuartzGlow · 05/10/2019 20:06

I think Harry looks angry, haunted and unhappy a lot of the time now.

LaurieMarlow · 05/10/2019 20:21

I think Harry looks angry, haunted and unhappy a lot of the time now.

Possibly because people are being such dicks to his wife.

Octonaught · 05/10/2019 20:28

A comprehensive communications strategy touches on aspects that you wouldn't even consider from wording, to timing, to quiet lunches with journalists, from switching one story for another and on and on. You don't need to understand it. When PR works well, the general public don't 'see' it

Case in point, slightly grainy photographs of the Cambridges watching Aston Villa wining their match and George cheering ecstatically.

The Cambridge brand and message is spot on. Family, duty. They are playing the long game; they are ( potentially) the future King &Queen.

The Sussexes have no idea what their brand is. “Woke, Hollywood Humanitarians.”? However their behaviour is completely at odds with the way the Royal Family operate. And without their titles, (and funding) they are nothing exceptional. An ex-Army captain and a actress approaching her Hollywood sell by date.

There will always be comparisons between the 2 couples. It didn’t have to be this way, they started off with the Royal Foundation “Fab Four” fanfare. That was in tatters within months.

It’s unbelievable to remember that Harry & William we’re so close. Harry has changed beyond recognition. I’m sure he is extremely happy being married and a new Father, but his new life has not brought out the best in him.

LaurieMarlow · 05/10/2019 20:34

And without their titles, (and funding) they are nothing exceptional

That’s true of them all though. Except Anne really. And Zara, but she’s a civilian.
