Say around 8-9

As if you want to lay in bed till 11 might as well have a few days at home !

Rubbish.

Shoxfordian · 03/10/2019 13:18

Yabu
Holidays should be relaxing

Wherearemycrayons · 03/10/2019 13:19

To be fair a few years ago I’d of said YABVU but now with kids and HAVING to get up I find although I’m knackered I feel a lot more like I haven’t wasted the holiday. YANBU

QuestionableMouse · 03/10/2019 13:20

Nope.

Holidays are the only time I do get to sleep in. At home I'm either at work, uni or the dog or cat needs something.

FizzyIce · 03/10/2019 13:21

Yanbu, I’m the same , although if we really need a lay in then I’m not totally adverse to it but usually I want to be up and at ‘em

TeenPlusTwenties · 03/10/2019 13:22

Not if you are then enjoying your holiday location for the next 12 hours though.

managedmis · 03/10/2019 13:22

Depends on the location, surely

YaySeptember · 03/10/2019 13:22

Depends on the type of holiday you're having.

Some people like the type of trip where you have to be up and about at some ungodly hour whereas others prefer to rest, relax and just potter about in wherever they're holidaying.

Purplejay · 03/10/2019 13:23

Yabu. If you get up at 11 after a morning of relaxing, have an early lunch/brunch and head out you still have 8-12 hours of your day to play with!

seaweedandmarchingbands · 03/10/2019 13:23

I get up earlier on holiday - usually no later than 7. I like to enjoy the whole day and go to bed early.

ShinyGiratina · 03/10/2019 13:24

Depends on the holiday and what you want to do.

Young children, exploring, activities, early start.

Just chilling, night life, lie in.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 03/10/2019 13:25

It depends what you want from a holiday. I prefer to stay up later at night and sleep in. Years ago I went on holiday with someone who was up at 7am and wanted to be in bed by 10pm. Not my idea of a holiday at all. As with everything else, everyone's different.

SgtFredColon · 03/10/2019 13:26

YABU. I hate getting up early and do it for work every weekday. On holidays I like to wake when I wake and take my time getting ready. I still have all day and evening to enjoy the place I’m in.

Teddybear45 · 03/10/2019 13:26

Depends where you go. If you’re in Dubai, New York, Mumbai, London etc waking up at 12 would still give you 12-14 hours of quality tourist time. If you’re in South Goa or somewhere in the sticks in Spain ‘on a deal’ then you might find your options limited.

araiwa · 03/10/2019 13:26

On holiday i do whatever i want

user1573354 · 03/10/2019 13:27

We always have every intention of getting up early and making the most of the daylight, but even with 3 kids find we need a bit of a lie in. Breakfast included holidays give us a push to get up in time but it's usually just in time even then and we might usually have to go back to our room and get ready.

But you could turn it around and say it's a waste to go to bed early on holiday? We stay up late, exploring wherever we are at night is very different, enjoy restaurants in the dark and street food, and night time land trains etc is fun. When we are somewhere warm it is particularly nice to be out in the dark and not be cold. When we holidayed in England this year it was the same tbh, we enjoyed beaches and city spots without the mass crowds later on, and trains were less crowded.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 03/10/2019 13:27

Depends what you want from your holiday... personal I can’t get my knickers in a twist over what other people do with their spare time

phoenixrosehere · 03/10/2019 13:28

Depends on what one plans to do really and the place that they’re in.

My husband and I have separate views on holidays. I hate sitting around and lying in the sun or by a pool for days on end because we get enough sun where we are in England and if I wanted to sit lying around I could do so at home. He finds it relaxing. I like to venture out, explore, and go on excursions because it’s something different to do that I can’t do at home and love to learn about the place I’m in. For him, it doesn’t matter what time he gets up, but for me it does because depending where we are they may close or stop by a certain time.

CMOTDibbler · 03/10/2019 13:28

Getting lots of sleep is a key part of a holiday for me, and I don't care who judges me. I have a very full on job, which involves travel (like next week when I'll go on a 12 hour flight each way for a one day meeting), and I don't get time to recover normally

shearwater · 03/10/2019 13:30

Depends what you want out of a holiday. When I was younger we got up about midday but had stayed out until 3am or later dancing.

PhilomenaButterfly · 03/10/2019 13:31

Luckily even DD2 manages to surface before 9.30. We have the whole day, and we stay up late.

ScatteredMama82 · 03/10/2019 13:32

Why are you asking @Lardlizard? I think on holiday you can do as you please. If you are the sort to get up and head out at dawn, knock yourself out. If you want to lie in bed until lunchtime, fill your boots. Personally, the idea of lying in bed until 11 am sounds like bliss! With a 4 & 9 year old though, that is unlikely to happen for quite some time. If I was away with friends though, and taking the chance to grab some much needed relaxation and someone told me I was 'wasting the day' I'd tell them where to go!

stopgap · 03/10/2019 13:45

Depends on the time zone. Like hell I will get up early if I’m jet lagged.

Northernsoullover · 03/10/2019 13:50

I get up early. If I stay in a hotel I like my breakfast. Missing it would be devastating!

fantasmasgoria1 · 03/10/2019 13:51

We get up around 8 - 9 and are out by 10. 30am. We like to stroll around leisurely, taking things in as opposed to rushing around missing things.
