To think it a waste if you don’t get up fairly early on holiday

Say around 8-9

As if you want to lay in bed till 11 might as well have a few days at home !

Wait, 8 or 9 isn't considered a lie in?!

Funghi · 03/10/2019 16:36

Mcpheenanny your friends got up at 4pm each day? What time did they go to bed?

DoingWhatWorks · 03/10/2019 16:37

DH & I give each other sleep ins while the other entertains the DC. We both get up early some mornings for day trips and each have a rest in the afternoon. I don't care what time others choose to get up on holidays as long as they or their family are not disturbing me and my family. My DC are not early risers so I don't need to be. DH likes to get up early, so he goes to get the breakfast and suss out day time activities.

I think people should do, and get up, whenever they like on holiday. Isn't that the point of being on holiday, to relax in whatever way suits you? We're all early risers, because that's what we like to do.

Benes · 03/10/2019 16:44

Are you my ex-husband??? He used to never let me have a lie in.

I love my sleep!!!

Ginfordinner · 03/10/2019 16:47

I have reached the age where I find I don't enjoy having a lie in. I am officially old Grin

I hate wasting the day, and like to get up and have breakfast by 9 am these days even if I am not doing very much. I hate staying inside in nice weather.

I don't care what other people do.

Bumfuzzled · 03/10/2019 16:48

I’ve spent a day on holiday before where I haven’t left hotel room

JonSlow I once spent a week doing that with my now DH. One of the best weeks of my life Grin

My mum always goes on about wasting the day on holiday. There’s nowt like starting the day on holiday with a touch of guilt and stress Confused

Singlenotsingle · 03/10/2019 16:50

No! Holidays are for catching up on your sleep, relaxing and taking it easy. No point getting up early. That's what you do when you're at work.

timshelthechoice · 03/10/2019 16:53

Sanctimonious early risers are some of the most fucking tedious people on the planet, right up there with food bores and alcohol monitors (and I don't drink alcohol at all).

There are 24 hours in a day, some people like to spend their awake time in different hours of that. What's it to you as long as they are not forcing you to go along with it?

Spending your waking hours in one part of the day v. another doesn't make you any more morally superior to anyone else.

What's it to you how someone spends their holiday?

I like to go on cruises, some people spend the bulk of their time in there in casinos, others spend it getting deep tans, still others drink all day and night, and some spend all night drinking and dancing and singing and sleep till 4pm. So what?

timshelthechoice · 03/10/2019 16:55

I’ve spent a day on holiday before where I haven’t left hotel room

I've spent entire long weekends shagging a lover and not leaving the room for much above eating and showering. Great times!

Leflic · 03/10/2019 16:57

I agree with you Op but my other half would disagree.

I think getting up early is even better without kids! Reminds you how much time there is to enjoy yourself when you aren’t running round after them.

I’m up at 6-6.30 for work so 7 is a lie in. Like to have an early morning swim to kill any hangover and up and out for 9.30. I
DH would ideally get up at 9, have a long breakfast and be out for 11 ( just in time to be in the crowds).

We compromise now. I get up early, he gets up a bit later and we both go back for nap in the afternoon. That way we can stay up late without being too tired and miss the afternoon crush on the beach/ shops/lunch.

care to give us a bit more context Lardlizard?

Bluntness100 · 03/10/2019 17:02

I'm with you op. I prefer to get up early and make the most of it, my husband would lie in bed till noon. Pisses me off. 🤣

stucknoue · 03/10/2019 17:06

Depends on the holiday! I'm currently dreaming of a hotel where I don't leave the room Grin

RingtheBells · 03/10/2019 17:08

So have I, about 40 years ago Grin

Dazedandconfusedmostdays · 03/10/2019 17:09

I never get up early on holiday Grin

Gillian1980 · 03/10/2019 17:10

Yabu

Any chance of a lie in and I’ll take it! It’s all part of the relaxation.

I’d rather get up late feeling chilled and then have a busy afternoon / evening.

anyoneseenmykeys · 03/10/2019 17:11

what I find odd is that most posters seem to think a holiday = a hot beach hotel destination. Can be, but is that all you ever do?

Littlemeadow123 · 03/10/2019 17:12

I like to get up early and go out exploring and seeing new places when I'm on holiday. I'm not the kind of person who enjoys staying in bed until 11, sitting by the hotel pool for several hours and then going out clubbing in the evening. I know people who go abroad every year and never leave their resort. Personally I dont see the point of that but we all have different tastes when going away for a week or two.

fatulousatforty · 03/10/2019 17:13

I like to get up at 5 and go for a swim before someone pisses in the pool

Ginfordinner · 03/10/2019 17:13

I know what you mean anyoneseenmykeys. I love exploring and sightseeing, even if it is a hot, beach type of holiday.

NoSauce · 03/10/2019 17:14

You often start “odd” threads, don’t you OP?

flirtygirl · 03/10/2019 17:24

Hate the waking up early rubbish
Pure nonsense.

You do you and let everyone else do them.

And yes, 8 or 9am is not a lie in. And no, not all young children have to get up early. I've looked after countless including my own and I still got to lie in. If one was dropped off at I then I'd go back to bed with them or doze on the sofa whilst they played depending on their age. Babies and kids can be trained either way so all these parents getting up early are just martyring themselves.

On holiday I hate breakfast ending at 10am, so we get up at 9.40 get there just before they pack up, load up our plates then eat at our leisure.

Nothing worse than having to get up before I'm ready. Which some days can be 10 or 10.30am.

So you carry on enjoying your holidays your way but I don't understand why you are even thinking about how others spend their holidays. I don't think there is anything wrong with getting up early so why do you think the reverse? Why is it even a matter for judgement?

I get up most days at 10am, is your mind blown? Sometimes even at 11am.
