To mourn MN as it was in the Moulden Days

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 21:59

Admittedly, it was not perfect (full of quiches and Queen Bees). So much so that I gave it a rest for a considerable while. I may even have Flounced at some point (though was not a Mouldie. I would never have been cool enough).

But I now mourn the Olden Days when nobody had to bother with "lighthearted" when a thread was evidently lighthearted. Nobody took everything quite so seriously, even when they would have good reason to.

Posters generally had a decent command of spelling and grammar, too.

Maybe I'm just old and need to take up knitting or something.

Got to p12 and am marking place. Have changed name soany times. Nowadays I am fond of Xenia. I miss Frankwippery, Porto, CupofTeaPlease, Usual, Fabby, LeQueen, Vicar, Pagwatch, Chaos, KungFuPanda, Zombie, Fru, LRDTheFeministDrago and GetOrf. GetOrf was fhe first poster I ever respondex to and who responded back. And I met her and she was awesome.

SolidGoldBrass, Hearts, LoiuseEg, Riven, MrsDeV, ComposHat, Trinity, CointreauVersial, and oh so many more. Mrs Morton - and drill, Quint.

PrincessMargaret · 03/10/2019 22:48

I think today it all seems to be posters who can't cope with normal day to day stuff without there being a drama . Or pervs. The number of posters who seem completely unable to stand up for themselves inRL astounds me. Even over the most trivial things. And Pervs.

RueCambon · 03/10/2019 22:52

I don't care about Moldies. I've been here since the year dot and a few xx at the end of a post don't offend me that much. Tbh, I hate the 'D' in DH more. Time and time again I read about some arsehole of a 'D'H or 'D'P

So xx at the end of a message, relax for gadsache but calling your partner or husband 'D' anything and then going on to describe the most selfish, entitled behaviour I've read, since the last thread I read, that's what rankles me.

xx

PhilomenaButterfly · 03/10/2019 22:52

Nobody on Reddit knows me. 😁

RickOShay · 03/10/2019 22:57

Still Grin about Pablo’s “achingly sad”

Serin · 03/10/2019 23:04

Oh not this again.
YABU, Things change and evolve.
I've been here since 2004, remember the "Moldies" flouncing. TBH I think MN is a nicer place now.
So much time was spent soaping up to the "popular" girls Confused
All very childish.

Titlebeltholder · 03/10/2019 23:09

Been here for years, it's all turned very tense.

It's like a competition on who can have the least common decency and no one gives a fuck because it's "the internet" it's a shame, it used to be more supportive and just a friendlier vibe.

The Reddit thing, I went over there, just yuck. It will implode, it's inevitable. It will just move somewhere else.

RueCambon · 03/10/2019 23:16

@notso summed it up well, back in the day, after a meetup, the site was so boring! And agree with @harissapaste, one of the 'big name' posters was a real bully. Relentlessly trying to shame me. She loved shaming people. LOVED it.

Also, once, I posted something, a confession of sorts, with a name change and several posters tore in to me, relentlessly, for 8 pages. Then some moldie oldtimers thought they spotted the style of a well-liked moldie poster. So my badness became goodness. Shock

CarolDanvers · 03/10/2019 23:30

Lots of competitive outrage and censorship by shaming on here these days. I've been here since 2007 and regularly started threads. I haven't started a thread in ages. I'd never bring my problems here now. I never really had any MN "friends" for ages so never got involved in any of the mouldies dramz or insider jostling. Then I joined a spin off FB group and made loads, some of whom are among the most trusted people in my life now. I never took that much notice of the "faces" on MN apart from a notable one or two. There is one who always gets name checked on these threads and I find it utterly incomprehensible as she was always such a boastful snob and could turn viciously nasty in a heartbeat 🤷‍♀️

ssd · 03/10/2019 23:30

The whole mouldies thing, together with the bat and Jeffrey just sort of passed me by. The boys didn't sleep well when they were younger, a lot passed me by in those days.

LaMarschallin · 03/10/2019 23:43

@Mysterian

I remember the old days. Mumsnet was in black and white and cost 10s 6d a year to run. You got threads through the post back then, as long as the coach wasn't robbed by a highway man. If I recall the first couple of threads were "Francis Drake - CF?" and the infamous "Member tankard" one.

One day, in the future when postmens' dropped elastic bands are the few remnants of a human civilisation, a cyber archaeologist might turn up that post and go 😊 instead of ☹.

JoyceJeffries · 03/10/2019 23:47

I wasn’t part of the mouldies gang.
Tbh it reflected my life so far to date - not part of any quiche but quite happy with that nonetheless.

Has anyone mentioned WiltedRose yet? It was really Christmas till she had her begging bowl out with some ludicrous sob story.

LaMarschallin · 03/10/2019 23:55

I love getorf's enclyopaedic knowledge of the works of jilly cooper.

I wish to know getorf.
And to go head to head with them on the "works of jilly cooper".
I'm talking folding money
And I haven't just had a dark mahogany whisky.

DollyTwat · 04/10/2019 00:05

Love a nostalgic Mn thread!
Did I see @Hullygully on here? Waves in a mad way!

Lots of us went to Twitter and chat there which does feel more personal. Mn seems very big these days.

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 00:17

Do t wa e to me dolly, apparently you get taken out and shot nowadays.

Let us air kiss mwah. No one's marked my card on that yet

DollyTwat · 04/10/2019 00:24

Ha ha just read through the thread a bit and saw that I would be told off for for the waving!
If @ledkr comes in and talks to me I’ll just call her a cunt!
I haven’t seen you for ages! Hope life is treating you well my friend.
In case she doesn’t see the thread getorf got married this year which was very exciting

DollyTwat · 04/10/2019 00:26

And to those who complain of friendship groups, you have to get over it, some of us Have been here for years, have met up and some of us see each other all the time.

ReadyPayerTwo · 04/10/2019 00:35

I've been on Mumsnet for about three years and overall it's been quite amazing. In fact it recently almost saved my marriage!!

DollyTwat · 04/10/2019 00:44

I found Mn invaluable when I joined in 2001 with a new baby and alcoholic (now ex) h. People here can be amazing and Whilst I don’t post much these days I still love Mn. I met two of my closest friends on here

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 04/10/2019 00:46

I haven’t been on the message board yet that didn’t have the periodic nostalgia/clique accusation cycle.

You think MN is bad? You should have been on the old Mustardland boards frequented by Archers listeners. Fuck me, who knew an everyday story of country folk could incite such vicious virtual bloodshed.

untoldstories · 04/10/2019 01:13

@DollyTwat

Please pass on all good wishes to Getorf, she's missed, she went over to The Dark Side ( Twitter ) iirc.
I did like her.

(And does she still change her sheets daily now she's newly wed?)

TinklyLittleLaugh · 04/10/2019 02:01

So what did happen to Mrs D?

I must admit in times of moral quandary, I often ask myself, “What would Mrs DeVere do?”

notangelinajolie · 04/10/2019 02:03

My 18 year old was in nappies when I first joined. I've nc a couple of times since then.

BiMum5 · 04/10/2019 02:10

MrsD is one of my FB friends. She's still wonderful!

JaneJeffer · 04/10/2019 02:11

Hubby makes me murderous.
