To mourn MN as it was in the Moulden Days

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 21:59

Admittedly, it was not perfect (full of quiches and Queen Bees). So much so that I gave it a rest for a considerable while. I may even have Flounced at some point (though was not a Mouldie. I would never have been cool enough).

But I now mourn the Olden Days when nobody had to bother with "lighthearted" when a thread was evidently lighthearted. Nobody took everything quite so seriously, even when they would have good reason to.

Posters generally had a decent command of spelling and grammar, too.

Maybe I'm just old and need to take up knitting or something.

Hey Hully - Well according to some extremely self-important types who no longer post on MN, simply saying hi is cliquey and means we think we are Royalty...and of course there is nothing worse (except being Sparklingbrook, which is far, far worse, in fact the worsest thing on the Internet)

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/10/2019 17:44

I namechange all the time mainly because I don't want to be stalked by by the site that was set up to discuss trolling on Mumsnet.

Hullygully · 03/10/2019 17:51

I had no idea. I genuinely think that's really sad. Might as well just stand at a bus stop and say, yes, definitely colder today isn't it? Over and over to strangers.

I refuse.

I'll wave and say hello as and when I please. Fuck the miserable cheese paring mean spirited cunts.

Hullygully · 03/10/2019 17:52

HELLO LTD EVE LONG TIME NO SEE

Off to a flying start

Sparklingbrook · 03/10/2019 17:55

Grin Eve, you are not wrong.

Shock at *Hully's capitals.

Bedsidedrawer · 03/10/2019 17:55

Don't miss it at all. Because it was smaller, it was bullying and cliquey.
The usual assholes sweeping in with their bracketed smug comments on threads that could be serious.
I'm older and wiser now so wouldn't let it get to me but back then I had newborns, struggled with PND and got treated appallingly by regulars (don't need to name names)
I find it much more friendly and light-hearted now. I never see the kind of 1000 post threads with the gang piling in.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 03/10/2019 17:56

I thought the preggers and penguin cousin was MarmaladeTwatkins

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 03/10/2019 17:56

Peng cousin🙄

Sparklingbrook · 03/10/2019 17:57

I would love it to have been a penguin cousin TBF.

Hullygully · 03/10/2019 17:57

I'm sorry you felt that way bedside. You were clearly on a completely different MN to me.

BertrandRussell · 03/10/2019 17:59

One day i’m going to embed the word “moldie” in a thread about say, baking carrot cake or why Boris Johnson is awful and see if the klaxon goes off......

TantrumsAndBalloons · 03/10/2019 18:00

A different MN to me as well
Part of what made it a laugh was recognising people and having a bit of a joke

Those days are gone, from what I can see

Hullygully · 03/10/2019 18:00

Interestingly, tho smaller there were thousands and thousands of posters even so. I wonder how you came across so much bullying and cliqueyness. How did it manifest?

Bedsidedrawer · 03/10/2019 18:01

Erm no Hullygully - there's only one Mumsnet as far as I'm aware

Hullygully · 03/10/2019 18:01

And "treated appallingly" May I ask what that means?

Hullygully · 03/10/2019 18:02

I hope you don't mind me asking, just trying to understand

Samcro · 03/10/2019 18:03

I do miss knowing people. Thats why i like these threads even if some people remember people differently to me.

BIWI · 03/10/2019 18:04

I do agree there's less cliqueyness/6th form prefect gangs, which is definitely a good thing.

BIWI · 03/10/2019 18:05

But I do miss the days when we did get to know each other better. The combination of name-changing post Jeffrey and the expansion of the site make it inevitable. So I do like it when someone pops up with a name I recognise!

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 03/10/2019 18:05

I also recognise the MN you describe Bedsidedrawer - posters piling in to back up their mates. It was awful.
You don’t get that now.
There’s a much nicer atmosphere on MN these days. Smile

TantrumsAndBalloons · 03/10/2019 18:06

I miss the thousand post threads full of nonsense 😁

PhilomenaButterfly · 03/10/2019 18:07

Fuck the miserable cheese paring mean spirited cunts.

Sparklingbrook · 03/10/2019 18:07

This is why you can't openly agree with anyone Hully because you get accused of all sorts like having friends.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 03/10/2019 18:07

I really miss the old days, the intelligence and humour of old is extremely rare these days.

exLtEveDallas · 03/10/2019 18:09

Damn fine to see you again Hulls Smile

I possibly 'met' P&P Cousin once. Way back when ACs was still a thing (It might still be, I became persona non grata over there) and I had just moved to my new home I saw a family visiting a local attraction that just screamed P&P. If it was her (and we were pretty sure it was when we spoke ) then I have to say, everything Bups said about her was true. She was eye-opening to say the least Wink
