And about time, too. They never stop castigating her.

Prince Harry has said that he's worried that she'll end up being the same kind of victim that his mother was with regard to the Press.

I hope she wins her case.

Tbf, Priti Patel is ghastly.

Grumpelstilskin · 02/10/2019 22:25

There are two separate issues though that of Meghan and then that involving his mother. I feel fairly neutral about Meghan, she married a spare royal and does not interest me much as a person and I was entirely unaware of her prior to becoming involved with Harry. I find both of them somewhat irritating in their sanctimonious lectures given from a place of extreme privilege. Media attention seems more about recreating a narrative of rivalry between the two young Royal wives that reminds me very much of a re-run of Princess Di and Fergy. It almost feels like Pantomime. Harry and his wife do seem to want to dictate the terms of media interaction. It sadly backfired. It unfortunately comes with the job. I do not read the Daily Heil or other tabloids but can imagine a negative stance to someone not fitting the typical mould.

Now to Harry’s mother, I am a bit sick of the emotional hyperbole that the press killed her. Princess Di was a complex and very troubled person that was also extremely manipulative and actively courted and used press attention for public point scoring. The press was regularly tipped off by her via some minions to let them know exactly where she would be going because she was pretty attention seeking. This was further compounded by Al-Fayed who too stoked press attention and created a total media frenzy when Dodowhatshisname and her came to Paris. Princess Di was killed by a speeding, drunk driver while not wearing a seat belt. It was a tragic but ultimately preventable accident. Blaming the press is simplistic and ignores the role the Princess herself and her hanger-ons played in courting tabloid attention. It's not a beast that you can control.

Someone said that it is Meghan's personaloty that people do not like. That it is not racism.

From what I have seen , I personally don't like the sides of her personality that seem show offy, arrogant, and ruthless.

But I also see that added to that in the media - there is:

Racism

And

Jealousy - who does she think she is - coming in and taking our prince.

Add all of those up, and she was brave to take him on

LaMarschallin · 02/10/2019 22:27

I don’t see a lot of coverage of Meghan in the FT, for example.

people are JEALOUS!

I'm jealous of Meghan.

I'd like to be rich and pretty.

I'm not rich, though...

My OH gets the FT. I don't read it (no decent crossword*). He tells me there's not much coverage of her in it (then he gives a weird "Why would you think it would?" look).

Apparently there wasn't much coverage of the royal family's relationships (other than - strictly legal ones - with horses) in the Sporting Life when it was published.

Why would either of those publications have royal tittle tattle?

Just sayin'. As I believe the phrase is.

I read the Times and the Guardian (good crosswords in both. Even the quick cryptic in Times 2 isn't bad).

I hope they give me at least an idea of what the press is saying.

Admittedly, I've no idea about the FTSE or the starting price on any forthcoming races.

*Well... I can't do it. Must be rubbish

angell84 · 02/10/2019 22:29

@Grumpelstilskin "princess Di was a very troubles person".

You do realise that we all think this about Diana, because Charles was jealous of how popular Diana was, and hired a PR person to trash her image?

Now, if anyone describes Diana, it is always as : "troubled, hysterical, mentally ill, insane".

When we wouldn't dream of referring to a mentally ill person as "hysterical" normally.

Charles's pr did a good job

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 02/10/2019 22:31

Its clearly the magic royal factor. Some people will stick up for the RF even when they are clearly a bunch of increasingly badly behaved, indulged people.

I'm not particularly a Royal fan, can take or leave them personally, as I said it's the obsessed mindset that fascinates me, whether or a hater or a hun, they're two sides of the same coin, opposite ends of the spectrum....both equally obsessive!
Nowt to do with being Royal or not, the Insta threads are just as bonkers and bring them all out, but if you asked any of them, they can't stand anything to do with the person, but they still obsessively watch their stories, read everything they can, know their every move....
I just don't get it and it seems MM gets the same batshittery flung at her.
I couldn't be doing with it personally lol

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 02/10/2019 22:32

Sigh, top two lines was supposed to be a quote but didn't bold. Meh.

QualCheckBot · 02/10/2019 22:35

LaMarschallin I'm jealous of Meghan.

I'd like to be rich and pretty.

I can't complain about my life, but I were to be jealous, I'd be jealous of someone who was quietly wealthy, like someone from one of the older aristocratic families, or someone from a wealthy family who owned a big well established business or something and live a nice life in a country house. I really couldn't hack someone as thick as Harry or that awful extended family! Nor being famous.

LaurieMarlow · 02/10/2019 22:35

Why would either of those publications have royal tittle tattle?

I was responding to the poster who claims in depth knowledge of Meghan and her motivations, while in the same breath claiming she doesn’t read the tabloids.

I referenced the broadsheet that I read most regularly. The weekend edition of the FT is excellent and far more varied than people assume. You should try it.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 02/10/2019 22:37

This was further compounded by Al-Fayed who too stoked press attention and created a total media frenzy when Dodowhatshisname

Dodowhatshisname?
Hmm
I mean, you obviously know it perfectly well seeing as you managed to say his Dad's name fine in your sentence. And that's ignoring the Dodo instead of Dodi bit to boot
Was the can't remember his name for added bitchiness/sniping hilarity effect?

Biscuit
LaMarschallin · 02/10/2019 22:39

Just sayin'. As I believe the phrase is.

Bugger.

Just checked and it's: "Juss sayin'".

I am so last September 2019.

angell84 · 02/10/2019 22:43

I was just at a john lennon and yoko exhibition. He said that he had to leave the U.K. Because Yoko received so much hateful abuse.

If you are foreign , and you are in the Public eye in the U.K, you are going to get alot of abuse.

This country is racist in many ways.

Oh, me too, truly. And I can't complain about my life either.

Well, I could. But nobody prints my letters...

Fame is a right nuisance and means that - while you can afford to do something - you often can't do things because of the publicity.

I was just looking at it from a "normal person in the street wondering if their electricity bill will be crippling" Vs "I can take a private jet to ensure my family's safety" point of view.

I'm jealous of the latter person for sure.

But if I could have the riches without the publicity - sign me up!

TatianaLarina · 02/10/2019 22:53

Charles's pr did a good job

Yep. The classic crazy ex wife line.

AnyMinuteNow · 02/10/2019 22:58

Grumpelstilskin

Grin but also pretty Sad

angell84 · 02/10/2019 22:58

Yes!

"I was cheating on Diana throughout the whole marriage, and I was cold and unsupportive of her...

And it was her fault because she was mentally unstable and hysterical".

Charles is as cold as they come

koutouloufariqueen · 02/10/2019 22:59

From what I have seen , I personally don't like the sides of her personality that seem show offy, arrogant, and ruthless.

Have you actually seen that though? Because I certainly haven't seen her be any of those things. Or have you read she behaves that way?

Genuinely interested and not goady

ShirleyPhallus · 02/10/2019 23:01

From what I have seen , I personally don't like the sides of her personality that seem show offy, arrogant, and ruthless.

There have been some clever posts that show how this kind of attitude is steeped in racism. Something to do with the “angry black woman” stereotype. I can’t recall exactly so I hope someone more intelligent will come along to unpick this phrase!

RoseQuartzGlow · 02/10/2019 23:02

Yes a slightly more modern approach than the age old ‘she’s mad, cart her off to the asylum’ which was the classic modus operandi for men in centuries past when their wives bored them.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 02/10/2019 23:02

as I said before, the man is still a human being and he is clearly distressed by it all. It could and should have been handled much better, especially considering the budget for PR firms that they have

How do you know they haven't tried, though?
I mean, I've been around long enough to know that sometimes, it isn't as easy as "just handle them better..." I mean, you on;y need to look at MN relationships boards to know sometimes it just isn't as easy as that, things can be a lot more complicated... as someone outside looking in you don't know what's going on.
Look at the Stately Homes threads on here, they're a sad read indeed!
Not saying that's the case here of course as I don't know, but the point is neither do you.
They could have tried to work it out with him for all you know.

angell84 · 02/10/2019 23:03

@koutouloufariqueen. Ooh it was me that said that.

I mean I don't know her. I don't know anyone in the public eye, but we still all form opinions on them.

I arrived at my own opinion of her that she is a bit ruthless and self serving due to:

Friends saying that she cut them off when she became famous
She totally cut her brother and sister off.
She cut her dad off , when all he did was sell a few photos.

Alot of people have said that she has thise traits: self serving and brutal to people.

So that is how I arrived at my opinion of her.

angell84 · 02/10/2019 23:06

Hmm, that is a good discussion point.

I don't think that my opinion of Meghan as being ruthless and self serving, is steeped in racism.

I really admire Michelle Obama , who is confident and powerful. I LOVE her. I read her book the other day.

There have been no stories about Michelle Obama being ruthless and cold to people, and cutting them off. There have been alot of stories like this about Meghan

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 02/10/2019 23:07

Angel84 - all from stuff you've read in the press though! That's where you've formed your negative opinion of her.
Going back to the OP, which is where they're apparently taking to court for publishing personal letters that they say have been edited or taken out of context, that's a GOOD thing then that if they're doing that type of shit they're going to take them to task over it?
That way, people like yourself who take it all as read that's what she's like from a few words on paper/online won't form possibly untrue character damaging opinions if they're forced to clean their bile up a bit...

angell84 · 02/10/2019 23:09

@wotcha but that is how we know about any celebrity. From the press.

But still - the press get their stories from somewhere.

Why were there lots of stories from people saying that Meghan had been cruel to them.

Yet there were no stories from people saying Michelle Obama had been cruel to them. For example.

angell84 · 02/10/2019 23:11

I just think that alot of people that have known Meghan - at different stages of her life - have said that she was cruel to them.

That comes from somewhere.

So this is why I am not fond of her.

We all have our opinions
