Meghan Markle taking Mail On Sunday to Court *MNHQ tweaked title for accuracy*

And about time, too. They never stop castigating her.

Prince Harry has said that he's worried that she'll end up being the same kind of victim that his mother was with regard to the Press.

I hope she wins her case.

I hope she wins her case against The Mail on Sunday, disgusting rag.

Venger · 01/10/2019 23:56

But what is she taking them to court for? Can you explain. Being nasty isn't a crime. Is it libel? And for what allegation?

Misuse of information, infringement of copyright, and breach of the Data Protection Act.

Venger · 01/10/2019 23:57

*misuse of private information

ChicCroissant · 01/10/2019 23:58

I voted YABU, you only have to look at the other thread tonight to see why - this isn't going to help in the long run. They were getting good publicity from the tour and instead of sticking with that, they are creating another issue with the legal case - really terrible timing.

AnyMinuteNow · 01/10/2019 23:59

I have no time for all this nonsense, other than on the basis that these are people, and noone should be treated like this. Noone.

As a person, poor Harry has already been through too much losing his DM so publicly and tragically, as well as watching her continually abused by the rags, which as we now is abuse to dc watching parents abused.

I can't imagine how awful it must have been for any young child to experience this, and they have every right to shout out about this.

I hope she wins a huge charity payout and shames them for the low life they are.

It has to stop.

We don't have enough love in the world, and everyone suffers.

Venger · 01/10/2019 23:59

This isn't fall out or criticism though, this is targeted vilification of a person purely for entertainment purposes.

Have you seen some of the negative posts on here about her where people seem to think they're owed photographs of her/Harry/their baby and private information about them/their plans?

Dieu · 02/10/2019 00:01

It's awful. Poor lass. And good on her!

What’s the story that’s provoked litigation? She can’t take action over general low level “castigation”.

EustaciaPieface · 02/10/2019 00:07

I thought his statement was very powerful. I hope it changes things. We need drastic improvements in our press here I n the U.K.

If Thomas Markle released that letter, how can she win? It was his letter.

I don’t particularly like Piers Morgan, but I don’t think it’s because MM didn’t want to be friends with him that he’s written about her. It’s because she used, them ghosted him.

No, there will be something specific @Venger

You can’t wander in front of the judge with a vague rambling complaint that tabloids aren’t nice.

I’m sure they’ve found something they think is actionable. It would be interesting to know what they’ve plumped for.

"This feeds into that Meghan isn't royalty. Why not call her by her title?"

It's not the 16th Century. You can't get done for treason because you used their name!
I don't use their titles because it feeds into the idea that they're something special when they're not.

TheMustressMhor · 02/10/2019 00:12

There are too many Cunts of The Day here on MN who think the Duchess of Sussex is fair game for their entitlement.

If Thomas Markle released that letter, how can she win? It was his letter.

But maybe her copyright? Isn’t that the general rule with correspondence?

Interesting that they’ve gone after the letter issue, and it’s something that involves her Dad. Would he be a witness? Could get messy.

Chloemol · 02/10/2019 00:13

@1Morewineplease yes I agree they need to accept fallout to an extent, but why should they, or anyone else in the public eye have to accept being bullied, lies told about them and general nasty ness that any ‘ordinary ‘ person wouldn’t have to accept? What example is being shown to the children / young adults of today if you think it’s acceptable to bully the ‘famous’ but not the ordinary?

@Bouledeneige look on the internet, read Harry’s open letter, it’s all about a private letter they published with large bits missing so it was manipulated into something it wasn’t

TottieandMarchpane · 02/10/2019 00:14

@Venger if that’s you modelling kinder public communication, it’s not very inspiring.

Chloemol · 02/10/2019 00:14

@TottieandMarchpane copyright belongs to the letter writer. And don’t forget they manipulated the content so didn’t show what exactly it said. That’s the issue

Venger · 02/10/2019 00:14

She's suing for misuse of private information, infringement of copyright, and breach of the Data Protection Act all in relation to the private letter they published then Harry's statement specifically notes that the letter itself was edited by the paper in order to further portray her in a negative light.

TheMustressMhor · 02/10/2019 00:15

@TottieandMarchpane

I thought Vengers comment was very apt.

I was following the PPs own shining example, a cuntish comment was posted so it's fair game to name it as such Wink

Bouledeneige · 02/10/2019 00:16

Well we will see if the case stands up in court. Meanwhile, I hadn't heard anything about the letter they published and now I shall be googling it so I'm not sure if the strategy is a good one.

The press didn't actually kill Harry's mother. The only person who survived the car crash was wearing a seatbelt. She wasn't.
