And about time, too. They never stop castigating her.

Prince Harry has said that he's worried that she'll end up being the same kind of victim that his mother was with regard to the Press.

I hope she wins her case.

And we did pay for their house, and she has got some bloody expensive frocks

So had the Queen. And we pay for all her houses, too.

As I said upthread, I wonder how many posters are actually MNers, and how many of them are visitors from the Tumblr hateblogs where they openly discuss “war tactics” as to which websites and forums to target and what the day’s plan of attack should be

Indeed. It would be interesting to know which posters are MN regulars and which posters have decided to make a MN account in order to bash Meghan.

@joyfullittlehippo people can orchestrate hate campaigns on sites like tumblr. I never knew that, sounds like those bots you read about. Awful.

No. QualCheckBot has it right. Criticise Meghan = you are racist, you 'hate' her (hysterical hyperbole) etc etc. No thought is given to the fact you cannot tell what the culture or background of posters are. It's just assumed and casually trotted out like everyday benedictions such as 'god bless' or something.

Also applies elsewhere. It's telling, when posters come out with 'Don't you know that on MN we have/don't have xyz opinion blah blah blah' this is code for 'how dare you have this opinion'. This is usually backed up with some shaming tactic or enough twisting and adding of and to the original statement as to make one of those giant springs that kids play with look like a straight line.

TheMustressMhor · 02/10/2019 20:01

Yes, there are an awful lot of posters who show up on these threads either having newly registered or newly name changed

Which is very worrying.

I don't like the Royal family at all. The justification that we pay for their things because 'its for the nation' is just rubbish - see what happens when one of us plebs want to borrow a tiara for a night out or take a weekend away in one of the palaces.

However, the treatment of Megan by the press is really very bad. She can't do anything right for doing it wrong and she is castigated for whatever she's meant to have done wrong in that particular hour of the day. Its bullying in its purest form, lead by that wee toley, Piers Morgan.

It pains me to say it but Prince Harry is right.

Well it has happened before that mumsnet handed over a posters datails to the court, nothing to say it could not happen again.

foxtrottinngg · 02/10/2019 20:10

freedom of the press is fundamental in a free society.

EntropyRising · 02/10/2019 20:13

Ditto the posts and mass mails MNHQ have sent confirming how many of the Meghan bashing posts have come from PBPs, and confirming posters posting in the same thread under multiple usernames

But, why? We're all familiar with the allegations of bot interference where geo-political events are at stake, but why would there be a bot army mobilised against MM?

Obviously, there are some people who are racist or overly invested to the point that they'd create several profiles, but surely they can't be a bot army.

TheMustressMhor · 02/10/2019 20:16

freedom of the press is fundamental in a free society

It rather depends on whether the Press then invites online comments which it fails to moderate.

I agree, but isn't there a line between reporting and out and out bitching/harassment?

SaraNade · 02/10/2019 20:17

It wouldn't surprise me to learn most of the Meghan bashers on here are PBPS and trolls. Some are certainly truly vile pieces of work.
I too am in favour of a Republic, would love to be rid of the royal family. But racism and bullying of any kind truly are bugbears I have. It's a sense of injustice at the inhumanity of (hu)mankind towards each other. I don't believe that simply because someone is a Royal, or a celeb, that they deserve to be bullied, hounded or harassed. Underneath that visage, that camera smile, is simply a flesh and blood human being with hopes, dreams and frailties. Just like all of us behind a keyboard. Having a celeb or personality to vent our frustrations on an easy choice, but at what cost to that person? The thing is, it's never just one or two outlets. One or two blogs. You get the commenters underneath the articles. And then the Facebookers. The twitters who re-tweet hateful things. It's a viral thing and it must feel like the entire world is against you if you are a celeb. I understand many celebs don't Google themselves or read articles or comments for this reason. It must feel absolutely suffocating though. With social media, what may have been limited to your daily broadsheet or women's magazine is now literally everywhere.

TheMustressMhor · 02/10/2019 20:18

but surely they can't be a bot army

I am convinced that there is, indeed, a "bot army" which is willing to devote time to bashing the Duchess of Sussex.

OP posts:
justasking111 · 02/10/2019 20:19

The press is free to tell the truth. They are not supposed to invent fairy tales disguised as facts.

QualCheckBot · 02/10/2019 20:19

justasking111 Well it has happened before that mumsnet handed over a posters datails to the court, nothing to say it could not happen again.

Courts don't investigate, police do and then they pass on their findings to the CPS who decide whether there is a case to answer and if it is in the public interest. So I assume you are talking about a criminal court, and if there is a crime to be made out of being a little bit cynical about the continued existence of the Royal Family at public largesse, then I will willingly put myself forward as a test case. Although unless that is made illegal, it won't happen. I do think the RF have to be careful they don't get into the situation of trying to force people to say they like them or stay silent, with all this talk of reporting people to the authorities and sueing newspapers and extensive press engagement contracts (Prince Charles).

I freely admit to saying earlier in the thread that MM made the RF look good when compared to Prince Andrew's antics being in the news recently, although a poster said that I was "disgusting" for saying that.

If MM were to make a public speech saying something about how she condemned sex trafficking, exploitation of young vulnerable women, not just in third world countries but in the west, and astonishing delays in bringing the people responsible to light, I would really admire her. After all, she says she is a Great Feminist.

EntropyRising · 02/10/2019 20:21

Bots that are not human and require some investment? Which groups do you think are funding it?

Winterlife · 02/10/2019 20:23

And such an extraordinary number of them are friends with “people in LA who used to work with Meghan” and can provide first hand proof that she’s The Actual Worst.

shrug. I have no reason to lie. I'm not that invested in the BRF. I am not in the UK, am not British, and lived in LA for a few years (hate the city).

LaMarschallin · 02/10/2019 20:24

Except the bots and the bot army, presumably?

"I am convinced that there is, indeed, a "bot army" which is willing to devote time to bashing the Duchess of Sussex."

Yep, plenty of 'bots' on here, it's obvious. It's very sad. If only they could spend their timing hating on rapists, paedophiles or those who commit animal cruelty.

NoTheresa · 02/10/2019 20:25

@SaraNade

How dare you glibly refer to other posters as “the irrational haters”. QualCheckBot’s posts are measured and always worth reading. What a refreshing change from the responses of others who are shrill and vehement and downright intimidating.

I imagine Qual’s style is the one rated by most readers.

EntropyRising · 02/10/2019 20:25

But who funds the anti-MM bot army?
