And about time, too. They never stop castigating her.

Prince Harry has said that he's worried that she'll end up being the same kind of victim that his mother was with regard to the Press.

I hope she wins her case.

MM had a warm relationship with her father until she met Harry, ergo, he was no longer of use to her. I don't really blame him for selling the letter.

See, this is what I don't get. How do you know that?
Do you know her personally? If so, fair enough.
If you're just going on what the papers have told you though.....have a think about whether you know as much as you think you do?
If it's the latter - you've completely contradicted yourself - on the one hand say that nobody really knows what goes on, but on the other said as fact what her family relationship was like.

Great post Sarcelle and I thoroughly agree.

MM was singing her dad’s praises on her Tig blog pretty effusively before she met Harry

TatianaLarina · 02/10/2019 18:49

They have the luxury of walking away from their roles, most don't.

I don’t think that’s true. Most people have the luxury of privacy and the the luxury of leaving a job and finding another one.

You can never walk away from a role you were born into. Wherever he goes in the world, the press will follow him.

If anything happened to William before George was of age, the throne would pass to Harry.

If he went as far as abdicating to live a quiet life abroad - can you imagine the negative reaction? Betrayed the country, failed in his duty etc.

If he lived a private life here the press would say he wasn’t pulling his weight, always going on holidays etc.

So he can’t win.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 02/10/2019 18:54

To be fair I'm shocked the thread made it this far. Let alone that there are actually two still going. Hopefully I won't be made to eat my words soon.

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/10/2019 18:55

I was pondering this some more whilst doing my lengthy school run. I wonder if Meghan never even saw Harry's press release about the legal action.

Bear with me but I have always thought she married 'down'. I mean, I accept he is super rich and has given her a platform to pursue charitable works and I would not judge her for that at all. How many people do we all know in real life who have married for similar reasons albeit on a lesser scale?

But she is in my opinion so much cleverer than him and I think an extremely good role model for young girls. I just can see her seeing the sussex website and being 'ffs Harry - that wasn't what we agreed you would say' Wink

If as people are suggesting the statement came as a surprise to the Queen, I would love to be a fly on the wall of BP. Guess I will just have to wait for The Crown series 7.

So? Just because she was "singing her dad's praises" on a blog doesn't mean they automatically had a warm relationship in RL, does it?
Social media is full of stuff like that - hashtag making memories hashtag withfamalam etc... then in RL away from screens, things can be slightly different!
Not saying this is the case, as obviously I don't know, but the thing is none of us do. Neither do you if all you've got to go on is a tik tok blog.

TheMustressMhor · 02/10/2019 18:57

HaHa @CatherineofAragon.

Let's see what happens.

tik tok?! Fk knows where I got that from lol, I meant to quote your tig blog bit Grin

I'm still waiting for Series 3.

Censors are out in force today!

They sure are 🙄

Winterlife · 02/10/2019 18:59

And I've only heard positive things about her. Given that Meghan has been involved with the UNHCR since a teenager and given that she has never said a bad word against anyone, and given that we know that her father repeatedly sold his own daughter out for money, I think it is more than safe to say those 'people' who supposedly told you these things clearly as we can see with her father in hindsight have very very bad judgement. ;)

Her father has not "repeatedly sold his own daughter out for money". He gave an interview for money, and sold her letter - both, after she effectively ghosted him.

We can have different views on her. I think she is a manipulative narcissist. That said, I think she has been treated unfairly by the press. But, so was Diana, so was Sarah Ferguson, and so was Kate Middleton. I think given time, the press would have turned around, as it did for the other women. Going to war with the press, which I suspect is Harry's idea, will not end well.

BertrandRussell · 02/10/2019 19:00

“I have no doubt he was a lousy husband, but all his other children say he was a good father.”
Do they? I thought he didn’t see Any of them or his grandchildren?

TheMustressMhor · 02/10/2019 19:00

Tik Tok is just as good.

Damn that aurocorrect.

If anything happened to William before George was of age, the throne would pass to Harry.

Sort of, as regent and only until George was 18.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2019 19:01

SoupDragon But if her age or prior marital status are referred to, its racist.

You know that age and prior marital status aren't races, right?

You know I didn't say they were, right?

Except you did. You clearly stated that mentioning her age and previous marital statement were racist. Which they aren't.

You know there are two types of discrimination, direct and indirect, right?

And?

You seem unable to grasp my point which is that the small minded tabloid readers do not see MM as the "perfect princess" because of her race, previous marital status, job, etc etc. Diana was, however, perfect and thus what a PP called an "icon". Look at Elton John and that appalling Candle in the Wind version talking about "England's rose" or something.

TheMustressMhor · 02/10/2019 19:01

I thought he didn’t see any of them or his grandchildren?

Same here, Bertrand.

Winterlife · 02/10/2019 19:01

According to her father, but his claims are questionable and he is a proven liar. None of us know whether this either of those two statements are true or not.

Well then, the apple (Meghan) doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?

SoupDragon · 02/10/2019 19:02

Anyway, I'm out of this.

TheMustressMhor · 02/10/2019 19:02

Look at Elton John and that appalling Candle in the Wind version talking about "England's rose" or something.

Ugh. I have to agree with this.

It was an abomination.

Hopefullysmart · 02/10/2019 19:05

I read the news every single day, and have never, ever read an article which slates the Duchess of Sussex, because I only read news from reputable sources and never read skanky tabloid gutter press.

I genuinely didn't know she was being trashed like that. Sad that they/she probably feel as though a lot of the UK have an issue with them/her when really it's just a small minded, unintelligent scummy minority who believe what these disgusting tabloids write.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 02/10/2019 19:06

In other words, anyone with a modicum of reason, or questioning anything is automatically a censor, or in cahoots...
yep, seems like I've stumbled across the RF version of the Instagram threads, those get absolutely bonkers as well lol

Iamnotagoddess · 02/10/2019 19:06

I think this legal action is a mistake, everyone had forgotten about the letter.

It’s just marred the end of a pretty successful tour where there seemed to be a turn in the attitude towards her - not sure why she has to give so many bloody speeches either tbh.

She has taken a subservient role as the wife of a Prince, just accept that and enjoy the life of luxary ffs.

You can’t marry into a institution like the RF and then behave the way she does.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 02/10/2019 19:08

Joyful

There are cards she wrote to her father thanking him for his financial support of her and even going as far as giving him money with remarks of how happy she is to be able to help him now.

Then there is the 'Happy Father's Day' message on the Tig. Go on the Wayback machine website. It's there.

Why is it that Harry did not meet his father-in-law before the wedding but was all jolly for him to fly to the UK, meet the Queen and Prince Phillip, and walk his bride down the aisle in full view of the press if he was so 'toxic' and potentially embarrassing?
