Prince Harry has said that he's worried that she'll end up being the same kind of victim that his mother was with regard to the Press.

I hope she wins her case.

Why anyone thinks this is a ‘tradition’ worth keeping is beyond me. It’s barbaric.

And regardless of who did it, it’s definitely not ‘protocol’ (Hmm) and the Queen didn’t feel the need.

I'm on the fence with this one. I hate the DM and applaud anybody who takes them to task. But I also think Prince Harry needs to calm down and have a serious think about what he's suggesting. His mother died - and yes that's tragic - but the press didn't kill her - getting in a car without wearing a seatbelt, with a driver who was driving dangerously was what killed her. Is he suggesting his wife could be driven (no pun intended) to the same fate? He sounds paranoid and slightly unhinged in his statement, tbh. I bet the queen is wishing he would STFU. Nobody is forcing them to live in the spotlight- they have the choice to give up their public royal life and start living (and paying for) their own private lives. I for one wish they would, along with the rest of the royal family.

Well, you've clearly missed the point haven't you? MM is subject to lots of hate precisely because of her race, past and background. Diana, however, fitted the "perfect princess" image in the tabloid readers' tiny minds. Meghan is never going to do that because she is too independent and too strong a woman plus she is Black, American and divorced and the small-minded can't handle that.

In doubt it will come to that, not least as their lawyers would almost certainly try to insist on others being called too. Thomas Markle - or even Meghan herself - could well be among them, and I can't quite see the RF fancying that

We can't know if it's true that Harry wrote his remarks without the input of his speechwriters, but if they have distanced themselves from this I wouldn't blame them at all

Why would she use their 'protection' - the thought seems farsical.

This thread reminds me of the Instagram ones - the "haterz" mindsets are absolutely fascinating - they'll spout how much they don't like the person, but avidly watch everything the do and know their every movement - they're every bit as obsessed as the loving huns but can never admit it loll.
See it's Bertrand getting it in the neck on this thread with your "how are you so invested, don't you have anything better to do?" etc trying to shut you up for being the voice of reason.
They hate it lol. Good luck with that one, you'll need it (as in getting them to take a look at their obsessiveness Grin )

I think a lot of people are trying to have a meaningful discussion about how all of this affects the RF, particularly those of us who have had enough. It is difficult when the same few posters who dominate these discussions pounce on every word anyone posts and try to misconstrue it. I checked the number of postings some have made over the last 7 days and the results are staggering, over 400 posts! That's not just an obsession that's a full time job. Consequently the views of those with nothing else to do dominate royal threads and those who pop on to MN for a few idle moments get on with our lives. I am hiding this thread before it gets deleted, which it will.

I too am off to the common with my dogs.

A drunk driver who if he had not been fleeing the paparazzi may not have been speeding or chosen the route he did through a tunnel.

Drink driving is much more common in France, and while the road death rate is higher not every drink driver comes to a sticky end. Most don’t.
