My little dog often refuses to get up on to the sofa unless I lift him with my legs. He will stand on my feet and wait for me to elevate my legs and then use them as a plank to walk on to the sofa, somehow it started when he was a tiny puppy and he's got into the habit of doing it constantly now.

It's a small thing that I love, he also squeezes himself under the sofa and will pop out the bottom when I hoover. Although he's struggling to do this since he's a little chunkier now Grin

We have 2 budgies with French Moult. One of them can fly a little, but the other can't do more than flutter a bit. She will climb on your finger if you say "up" to her and let you carry her around.
The other one likes to flutter round the floor, but when he's had enough he climbs back into the cage.
The other one then rushes up telling him off for being too long.

Floopily · 27/09/2019 18:49

Ddog likes to be sort of tipped onto her back so she's sitting upright next to you, and she lets you know she wants to do this by backing her bum up to you and looking coyly over her shoulder until you tip her back.

She is also a notorious seat stealer, if one of us gets up she's straight in the spot no messing then tries to look all innocent as if she's been there all along.

8dayweek · 27/09/2019 21:08

I love this thread! My puppy loves to cuddle. When she greets you she climbs onto your lap, puts her paws on your shoulders and cuddles right in to you. She also likes to press the side of her head / ear to your mouth so you can give her lots of kisses. She's a leaner too so will just kind of casually lean against you so she's close. She is the bestest puppy!

Span1elsRock · 27/09/2019 21:12

My cocker spaniel gives the best hugs - he properly puts his front paws around your neck and nuzzles right in. He's the perfect antidote to a bad day.

We've also got a sprocker puppy and they're so funny howling together... DD plays them Youtube videos of other dogs and they join in.............

historysock · 27/09/2019 21:24

My tiny Dog wags her tail so fast that it becomes a blur to the naked eye. She also likes to get under any available blanket and make a nest-she never ever sleeps in top off anything always underneath. She is an absolute pain in the arse but she's got a good energy about her-she's always cheerful.
Our bigger Dog is the cuddliest beast known to man. And if you dare stop stroking his ears he will constantly tap you with his paw until you start again.

Dogs are a big tie. And a lot of work. But I wouldn't be without either of them. Sometimes they are the best part of my day.

FenellaMaxwell · 27/09/2019 21:25

Our old dog will actually physically hug you. She wraps her front paws together behind your neck and rests her head on your shoulder. Young dog is an idiot, bless her. She likes to wake me in the middle of the night so she can get under the duvet then she settles down with a ‘hurrrmph’ with her head on the pillow.

Whatsername7 · 27/09/2019 21:33

Ive had my cat since he was 5 weeks old. I rescused him after he was born to a feral cat om our school grounds. I weaned him onto solid food and fed him with a pipette. He follows me around the house, im in no doubt that he thinks im his mum. He likes it when I put a fleece blanket over my self and he can sit on me and snuggle. He pushes his face up against mine and stays there for hours. I feel so loved by him.

GoldLeafTree · 27/09/2019 21:36

Cat1 sits on the edge of the bath when I'm in it or sits on my lap when I'm on the loo and cat2 sleeps on the clothes airer!

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 27/09/2019 21:48

I love this thread! Who knew hedgehogs were so affectionate?!

My cat is a living teddy bear. She'll come to bed once I'm in it, and if I'm on my phone push in front of it demanding I put that down and fuss her. Then she'll snuggle and cuddle up full body length as cuddled in to me as she can, enjoying a nice fuss. If I'm not attentive enough she'll headboop me, stretch her paws and "accidentally" stroke my face and purr louder until I do. We get to almost fallen asleep then she'll go and curl up at the foot end of the bed - under or over the covers, as is her preference on the day.

HairdressertoBoris · 27/09/2019 22:07

I love this thread! I really want a dog, have done for years and can't have one and it just reminds me how they have their own little quirks that you love them for it!
I have two budgies. I let them out for a fly round and when they want to go back in, they can never quite fly through the door properly. I have to get a wooden spoon from the kitchen, rest it against the boy budgies belly and he will hop on it then I will put him back in the cage. As soon as he steps on his perch, the girl budgie who won't go near the spoon flys back in the cage perfectly first time! Other than that, they are ignorant shits!

Curious2468 · 28/09/2019 02:36

Hedgehogs are amazing. Truly adore my little girl. All pets are great though

sashh · 28/09/2019 08:46

I'm missing 'my'hedgehogs, I had at least 5 visit me last year (wild not pets) but I've only seen 2 this year.

I think because it was so warm they came initially for water then stayed for the food.

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 28/09/2019 08:52

My border collie loves bedtime. Ask her if she’s coming to bed and she runs and jumps on before you.

Once in bed she curls up and sleeps between my legs with her head resting on an ankle!

Sistedtwister · 28/09/2019 09:12

My dog has to lead a walk. No one must walk on front of her nose. If we try to she veers to head us off and has even resorted to grabbing the hem of my daughter's coat to tug her back when she got in front Grin

Purplecatshopaholic · 28/09/2019 09:12

PurplecatDog and I adore each other. He follows me round the house, sitting beside me wherever I sit, and sleeps with me on my bed. When he dreams he barks and growls softly in his sleep and it is the cutest thing ever!
Two of my cats have very loud purrs which I love, and another one likes to make ‘nests’ to sleep in. All pets are fab

AliasGrape · 28/09/2019 11:11

My dog sneezes when displeased, we call it the sneeze of disapproval.

He doesn’t like the rubbery/chewy dog toys and really doesn’t understand what balls are for, but he loves teddies and soft toys of all kinds. If he gets a new one he runs around with it in his mouth and then cries for the door to be opened so he can run around the garden with it.

When he was younger he’d sleep curled up by my belly whilst I was on my side. He likes a bit more of his own space these days and will sleep at the foot of the bed or on the landing but always comes for a cuddle as soon as he senses I’m awake.

If I’m on the sofa with my dressing gown on he likes to sit on me and stick his head up the sleeve then go to sleep.

He also likes to sleep on his back with all 4 legs in the air and his head hanging backwards off the edge of the sofa. Occasionally he’ll let out a particularly big snore that makes all the sticky up legs shake.

EKGEMS · 28/09/2019 14:42

One of my hound/lab doggies bays every single morning when his human brother gets out of bed and when he gets up after a nap. Sometimes he'll bay when we get back home from being out or to tell the cat off and sometimes for whatever unknown reasons his litter mate brother barks and never bays.

LoonyLunaLoo · 28/09/2019 14:57

@malificent7 I have a tortoise too. When she wants (more, she’s a greedy pig!) food she pokes her head out as far as she can to look for us. If you try to stroke her she tries to bite your finger. Then once you leave to get her some food, she knows that she’s won and goes to sit in her food bowl to wait for it. She’s so clever!

JustDanceAddict · 28/09/2019 15:02

My old cat used to follow me to the station in the mornings, miaowing as he went. I did wonder if he’d get on the train w me to work but he never passed a certain point.
Him and my current moggy like(d) to drink from the toilet!! Not sure if I love that though.

Pinkarsedfly · 28/09/2019 15:07

My Boston terrier brings me her little teddy every morning when she comes up to say hello.

She has her own set of steps to get up on the bed Blush and I love hearing her pottering up the stairs to bring me her little ted.

sonjadog · 28/09/2019 15:11

Every morning when I wake up, my dog is sitting looking over the end of the bed at me. I wish him a cheery good morning, and he smiles in return. It is a very toothy smile.

Giggorata · 28/09/2019 15:25

DDog 1 is quite vocal, especially when it's dinner time. We get a full song and dance routine. Unusually for a lab, she stops eating and skips over to me, barks once and then goes back to her food. She's obviously saying thank you! Then she carries on, head down, yipping happily as she eats. Never seen anything like it. 😀

DDog 2 likes to lie at my feet but also twists her head back round with her chin on the sofa, gazing at me soulfully. It looks really uncomfortable, but she does it for ages. When playing, she runs her top teeth along my hand, in an “I'm not biting, I'm just touching you with my teeth” way.

joystir59 · 28/09/2019 15:26

Our dog likes to be covered over with a very soft fleece when he goes to bed at night. We have to do it so he doesn't have any bit left out. If we don't get it just right he growls at us. If he wriggles in his sleep and the fleece comes off he complains with a very very soft little whine. We are so well trained we wake instantly no matter how tired we are. We love him beyond measure.

Grambler · 28/09/2019 18:47

I can add one more - my cats obsession with the loft. DH opened the hatch earlier and they both appeared out of nowhere and waited at the bottom for him to get the ladder down and then were up it before him. I don't know why - there's a bit of smelling, eating of moths/ladybirds and hiding in boxes, but they can be up there for hours just smooching around.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 28/09/2019 19:44

I've only ever owned cats although my dad had dogs so I am used to them too. I am so touched by all the wonderful tiny interactions between pets and owners. It is so heartening to hear about the love that one species can have for another. Pets are so precious and our relationships with them so important and therapeutic SmileBear
