My little dog often refuses to get up on to the sofa unless I lift him with my legs. He will stand on my feet and wait for me to elevate my legs and then use them as a plank to walk on to the sofa, somehow it started when he was a tiny puppy and he's got into the habit of doing it constantly now.

It's a small thing that I love, he also squeezes himself under the sofa and will pop out the bottom when I hoover. Although he's struggling to do this since he's a little chunkier now Grin

My cat high fives me for Dreamies and hugs my hand or arm with his paws. Basically everything he does is adorable Smile

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 26/09/2019 22:32

I used to have a collie that when she was a pup would push her neck into out hands to be pulled into the sofa. She was fiercely independent and wouldn't allow us to lift her onto the sofa. Oh no. She had to be pulled up by her neck *disclaimer it was a fucking strong neck even at 3 months

My current retrievers sleep with me ever night. One each side and they always go to their own side.

They know when my mother in law (who has terminal cancer but it's a slow on so we have good weeks and bad days) is feeling ill. One sits with her with his head on her lap and the other comes to fetch me, or my father or nephew, whichever one is looking after her that day.

I love my dogs. My father's German Shepherd wakes him up in the morning and, when he's let out by my father (who lives in a cottage in the grounds of my house) barks precisely three times which lets me know that all is well with my father. I have a massive anxiety around finding him dead one morning and these barks are a ,assigned comfort.

I am, of course, completely pathetic and i knkw they are just observing us and taking our leads behaviour wise, but I'm so grateful for all the dogs in my life. Past, present and future.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 26/09/2019 22:33

When the cat wants a bit of attention she puts her paw up in a high-five gesture till you respond. She’ll also squeeze herself into any small cardboard box available, sitting in it for hours peering out at the world.

The dog sleeps on a chair at the end of the bed yet every morning will jump onto the duvet, tail wagging enthusiastically as though she hasn’t seen us for dayyyyyys. When I start sing her a particular song that she’s know since a puppy she immediately rolls over so I can scratch her tummy

Toddlerteaplease · 26/09/2019 22:34

Cheddar stands on the end rail of the bed and pats my face.

DrVonPatak · 26/09/2019 22:36

My cat is his own welcome committee the moment he hears my car on the driveway. Before I turn off the engine, he's on the windowsill, parading, jumping down to greet me at the doormat an then flopping for me to pet his belly. He also has this thing about watching me cook, but not once did I have to shoo him off, even from the chicken, he just sits on the kitchen window sill and watches. Oh, and he takes care of all the creepy crawlies for me, love him to bits just for that.

Flurgle · 26/09/2019 22:38

He has different greetings for everyone in the family. After work he greets me by jumping up, paws at my sides, staring into my eyes and huffing gently. It’s a perfect moment.

EatDessertFirst · 26/09/2019 22:38

My ginger tabby enjoys eating Wotsits.

The eldest black and white cat enjoys cold tea and will only exit/enter the house via one particular window.

My little girl cat has a battered cardboard box that she sleeps in.
The girl cats brother is as thick as two short planks so his entire being is one massive quirk!

Seren85 · 26/09/2019 22:39

Our cat is very cuddly but very fair with it so he'll sit on my husband's lap for an hour then jump up and come to me for an hour. When he's outside as soon as he hears the car he arrives to be let in through the front door. When one of us is out, he will jump up to greet us when we come in and he definitely makes it known when he wants a, scratch and where by shoving that bit of himself under your hand. I love him!

Crimebustersofthesea · 26/09/2019 22:40

If I move in bed to lay on my side with my knees pulled up, ddog will move from wherever he is to flop into the space behind my knees. It's his absolute favourite spot and he manages to fit in there perfectly despite being 35kg!

Fstar · 26/09/2019 22:43

My dog is a big independant boy, no time for silly soft toys, but he loves a mummy snuggle on sofa when nobody looking

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/09/2019 22:44

One of my cats expects tucking in when she shares my doouble bed - she lies in the space between the pillow pairs in a really human-style position and mews until I pull the quilt just up to "shoulder level"

I may or may not have bought her a small pillow of her own

flyingspaghettimonster · 26/09/2019 22:46

My dogs are mostly total assholes, but I do love the way one of them puts his arm around me when he wants stroking. And the female won't gonoutside without stopping hopefully by her biscuit box then trots out with it happily.

Rozzie18 · 26/09/2019 22:54

My dog always knows when you’ve had a bad day and will bring you her favourite toy and sit on your feet. No bad day ends badly with love like that.

ln1981 · 26/09/2019 22:58

Our dog Luna will give a little soft growl if she thinks you haven’t given her enough attention when you come back from being out anywhere. She even does it first thing in the morning-I quite often wake up to her lying across my chest and as soon as she sees my eyes opening, the wee growl starts! Our other dog, Finn, likes to put his paws on your shoulders and tuck his head under your chin for a cuddle.

LightDrizzle · 26/09/2019 22:58

I had an Old English Mastiff the size of a cow.
If I put an apple down in front of him, his excitement was so great that he would prance and jump around it for ages, sometimes bringing his muzzle close, but then shying away for more prancing. Eventually he'd lie down with it between his forepaws and nibble it gently with his incisors as a fluffy blanket of frothy drool spread out on the kitchen tiles.

JuneFromBethesda · 26/09/2019 22:58

My dog loves to lie on the sofa. Sometimes she waits to be asked, sometimes she doesn’t. Sometimes she won’t come up until she’s been asked several times. And sometimes - if she hasn’t been asked, or if she feels she hasn’t been asked with enough sincerity, she will simply rest her chin on the sofa until she is asked correctly (again)

TheNoodlesIncident · 26/09/2019 23:03

My cat's purr is broken. She has never purred Sad. BUT she makes a sort of soft whiffling noise through her nose. She probably thinks she's purring but - sob! - she's wrong. (Her mum could purr perfectly well. T'is a mystery why her offspring can't.)

She also lifts a paw when she wants a snack/whatever you're eating and when she wants you to stroke her. If you stop before she thinks you should, the paw comes up again... If she comes into your room when you're innocently asleep in bed, she'll come up to you and prod your face. If you don't respond she taps you insistently sometimes her claws pop out a little when you're not responsive enough.

TwattingDog · 26/09/2019 23:07

My cat lies on your hand. If you tap the hand three times, she'll come to you. If you call her anywhere in the house or garden, she'll come to you.

The cat has better recall than the damn dog.

The dog is a loon.

TwattingDog · 26/09/2019 23:09

Oh, the dog helps herself to apples and pears from the fruit bowl. She selects one, carries it to her bed, lies down, then holds it in her paws (she uses her dew claws) to eat.

Flurgle · 26/09/2019 23:12

This thread is my favourite thing.

OwlsMedicine · 26/09/2019 23:14

My dog smiles when he's really happy. Corners of his mouth curl up and his eyes narrow at the edge. It's adorable

ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2019 23:18

I have a dachshund so there's plenty of lovable quirks to choose from. He's lying on his side on my bed at the moment, but at some point he'll probably hitch himself onto his back with his neck sort of twisted round and his little legs in the air.

FAQs · 26/09/2019 23:20

I’ve one cat who is very vocal and likes to violently head butt myself and the dog, another cat knocks o the door to be let in.

Dog likes to sleep on my head and has terrible sulky tantrums, throws herself down and sighs very dramatically several times if she is ignored whilst checking I’m noticing by giving me side eye. She does have a very good understanding of several words even if I spell them out to not get her too excited, I’m sure she fully understands English.

steff13 · 26/09/2019 23:22

Our house is a split level, and the stairs don't go straight up and down. There's a set of stairs, a landing, and then another set of stairs.

When you're going from the lower level to the upper level, our cat will run up ahead, sit on the upper set of stairs, and wait until he sees your hand. When he sees it, he reaches through the railing and pats your hand with his hand.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 26/09/2019 23:33

My dogs don’t go upstairs but occasionally my DDs will take their mattresses to the sitting room for a ‘sleepover’ night, our Labrador boy will lie next to them snuggled up on their duvet and literally not move a muscle all night (even though he’s normally a wriggler and a snorer on his own bed). It’s almost as if he thinks it’s a mistake that he doesn’t want to draw attention to in case he has to get off Grin, so sweet. And my Greyhound girl because she clearly didn’t read the Greyhound handbook. She barks for everything - food, walks, cuddles, she sheds loads of hair, she LOVES her walks and would go out ten times a day for ages if she had the chance, she spends more time awake than asleep, she LOVES cats and other small furries (she play bows to ndns cat but usually gets a nose swipe for her troubles Grin) and, unbelievably, she WONT GET ON THE SOFA! Shock
