A 6ft2 man saying to a formal (Who is 5'3),
"God. Have you shrunk? '

PinkButterfly855 · 26/09/2019 19:08

Female!! Not formal.

I don't see why the sexes of the people involved matters, it isn't a sexist comment and you shouldn't make it into one.

I don't think its rude. It's of the same ilk as people asking tall people if 'the weather is nice up there'. It's annoying and asinine, but nothing to be offended over.

IfIKnewThenWhatIKnowNow · 26/09/2019 19:12

Not sure why it matters that they are male and female? And no! Annoying maybe, but rude? No....

donquixotedelamancha · 26/09/2019 19:13

I would presume it was lighthearted.

QOD · 26/09/2019 19:13

Part of the daily bants at work. I’m 5ft surrounded by 6 foot plus blokes

iismum · 26/09/2019 19:14

Yes, of course it was rude! Making unflattering personal comments is always rude

Butchyrestingface · 26/09/2019 19:14

Depends on the context and the relationship, you've provided neither.

WorraLiberty · 26/09/2019 19:17

FFS

Unless they hate each other or the shorter one has a massive complex, no it's not rude.

It's quite obviously a joke.

Imonaplane · 26/09/2019 19:19

I don't think it's rude. It's just banter. I get this sort of comment all the time as my husband is 6'5" and my sons are all over 6'. I am 5'3" and do not get offended. I make comments to all the tall people in my house and they don't take offence either. 🤷‍♀️

Justmuddlingalong · 26/09/2019 19:20

I'm short, but perfectly happy with my height.
'You don't get diamonds the size of boulders' is my usual smiley reply. Wether the comment is made by a male or female is unimportant. It sounds like the comment touched a nerve, but I don't think it is rude or sexist or heightist.

Goodnightjude1 · 26/09/2019 19:21

No.
Unless you’re very sensitive. I’m 5’11 and constantly have people saying “you’re tall” and “what’s the weather like up there?” It doesn’t bother me... it’s usually just their lame attempt at being funny.

As if I hadn’t noticed I’m tall...🙄

intermittentfasting · 26/09/2019 19:24

Its the sort of lighthearted comment I wouldn't think twice about afterwards. It's generally not seen as a negative thing for a woman to be small so there's no insult intended.

LemonPrism · 26/09/2019 19:25

Not really, annoying but just ask him what the weathers like and if he's banged his head lately

Karkasaurus · 26/09/2019 19:27

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

AmIThough · 26/09/2019 19:27

No it's not rude, you're just short.

Blue7 · 26/09/2019 19:28

Just friendly banter.

I'm that height and wouldn't be offended.

tinytemper66 · 26/09/2019 19:29

Kids say stuff like that to me all the time. I just laugh and say yes it is due to my age! Both sexes say it.

DameXanaduBramble · 26/09/2019 19:30

Well its not tall..just factual. He probably gets hilarious ‘tall’ comments all the time. ‘What’s the weather like up there’ - chortle.

tinytemper66 · 26/09/2019 19:30

And I am not even 5ft!

saraclara · 26/09/2019 19:30

I'm 5' 0"
I roll my eyes at the comments I get about my height, but I don't see them as rude. And it's not confined to one sex or another. one of my favourite female friends is 6' 0" and she loves to take the piss out of me!

BrylcreamBeret · 26/09/2019 19:32

I think previous posters have had a little too much cognac tonight op, of course it's rude. You wouldn't call it polite would you?

Justmuddlingalong · 26/09/2019 19:36

I'm sober, thanks. Posters not agreeing with the OP or you @BrylcreamBeret, don't need your permission to give an opinion.

DameXanaduBramble · 26/09/2019 19:36

Surely the reply is “no, you’ve just got taller”

You’re that height, you must be used to laughing comments off by now?

PinkButterfly855 · 26/09/2019 19:41

Well its not a complimentary comment.

I should have given a smart reply back though.

OP posts:
CherryPlum · 26/09/2019 19:41

It's rude and odd. 5ft 3 isn't even particularly short. What a strange man
