GP accused me of stealing

Justme1234567 · 25/09/2019 19:44

So today I went into my local walk in centre as I couldn’t get a gp appointment for being in the middle of a mental health crisis, so he was lovely at first, listened to me and gave me tissue. So I had stopped crying and didn’t want to put my dirty tissue on his table so I put it in my pocket as I was doing that he took off his glasses and his face looked very angry and he said to me “you just put my thermometer in your pocket” I said “what sorry?” and he repeated himself so where I’m very anxious I took everything out of my pocket and showed him I don’t have it and he said what else is in there and I got him to feel my pocket and he said, “sorry, I thought I had put it there but I’ve put it here!” Aibu to make a complaint?? I know it was a mistake but I left feeling even worse than when I went in, I was extremely embarrassed and burst out crying again when I left, I really felt like there was a different way to deal with this!

That is outrageous!

beaglebummabel · 25/09/2019 19:45

That is shocking

Justme1234567 · 25/09/2019 19:46

@Cuppa12345 I couldn’t believe it, and he was overly nice after, but he didn’t even bother to even look before! I just don’t want any issues If I need the walk in centre again.

Yes make a complaint, that’s shocking.

Highlandspring1991 · 25/09/2019 19:48

Complain! Bastard

Schuyler · 25/09/2019 19:48

That’s awful, definitely make a complaint. Poor you, in an already vulnerable state.

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 25/09/2019 19:49

Absolutely make a complaint. I'm sorry that happened especially when you're already feeling down

clarinstunic · 25/09/2019 19:51

That’s awful.

LuckyLou7 · 25/09/2019 19:51

What a bastard. Complain, complain, complain. How dare he accuse you of stealing his bloody thermometer FFS? What a horrible man. Contact the practice manager and put your complaint in writing. This is a disgusting way to treat someone in crisis.

DodgeRainClouds · 25/09/2019 19:53

That made me emotional just thinking about it. Please complain! He should have looked first before he assumed you had taken it. Really weird!

EerieSilence · 25/09/2019 19:54

Yes, absolutely make a complaint. He's no right to be like this especially knowing you came there so down.

Troglod · 25/09/2019 19:54

Make sure you describe it as you’ve done here op. That you emptied your pockets and he still didn’t back down. Don’t let anyone fob you off. This is fucking outrageous. What an absolute knob of a man!

Justme1234567 · 25/09/2019 19:54

Thank you everyone I’m definitely going to complain to the practice manager tomorrow, I really can’t believe it happened, and unfortunately stick up for myself when I am so low.

Ellegeebee · 25/09/2019 19:54

Definitely make a complaint, that’s horrendous and would have tipped me over the edge. I hope you feel better soon, no thanks to his unprofessional behaviour.

Em308 · 25/09/2019 19:56

Doctors use those massive digital ear thermometers, how could you get that in your pocket with a few tissues?

PorterBella · 25/09/2019 19:58

That's shocking, op. Hope you're feeling ok.
Report the obnoxious twat.

Justme1234567 · 25/09/2019 19:58

@Em308 this is the thing I took my keys and tissue out my coat pocket so he should of know there was nothing else in there, but he chose to embarrass me further by me having him feel it.

Aquamarine1029 · 25/09/2019 20:00

That is utterly shocking. You definitely need to report this.

99problemsandjust1appt · 25/09/2019 20:02

Reminds me of the time my gp accused me of stealing his batteries !
They’d fallen out of the oxygen level finger thing when ds was fussing rolled under the table I picked one up and put it on the table didn’t realise there were 2.... I left and got a call asking me to come back and return the battery I had taken !!!!!!

CAG12 · 25/09/2019 20:02

At the risk of being controversial. If he genuinly believed you'd took it, he was more than within his rights to ask you if you had. What was he supposed to do? Just let you walk out with it if you had? Its a walk in centre so he wouldnt have known you personally. I think he could have potentially framed the question to make it sound less accusatory though.

Id put it down as a mistake and move on

bbyj2019 · 25/09/2019 20:08

Agree with person above it’s not really ‘shocking’ ‘horrendous’ just a mistake everybody has there moments even gps 🤷🏼‍♀️ He could of put it nicer but you’re being a bit ott

Howlovely · 25/09/2019 20:09

Good grief that is absolutely disgusting behaviour from that doctor! I hope you are alright, I'm not surprised you burst into tears after being treated like that. What on earth did he imagine you'd want with his filthy thermometer anyway?
The practice manager definitely needs to be told about this, in your words not his, as he may try to make out like he just asked you if you'd seen where he put it or something. What a dick. He should be chaperoned for a while. You may not be the only patient he has reduced to tears.

Boysey45 · 25/09/2019 20:11

Bastard, I'd put a complaint into his professional body as well.

goingtotown · 25/09/2019 20:12

@Justme How awful for you, report him you need an apology. I hope you feel better soon.
