To wonder if the Royal family will attend state schools once the private ones are abolished?

Or will there be exceptions for the mega wealthy and powerful?

There is no way that private schools will be abolished, so there's no point asking the question.

Labour are going to struggle to get into power anyway; if they had that as part of their manifesto they would never get in.

theWarOnPeace · 23/09/2019 13:53

Not going to happen. Moot point.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 23/09/2019 13:54

What would stop the Royals hiring tutors?

BanKittenHeels · 23/09/2019 13:55

When are private schools being abolished?

HomewardHound · 23/09/2019 13:57

People are scaremongering because some politician said that he’s do it if he got in 😂

twoshedsjackson · 23/09/2019 13:57

Sending young royals to any kind of school is relatively recent, historically speaking; the Queen and Princess Margaret were educated at home
But I agree with Hollow Talk; the reality of suddenly having to take on all those extra pupils will make this principle a low priority because of cost.

HomewardHound · 23/09/2019 13:58

Every Labour supporter that I know, bar my ILs, sends their children to private school 😂😂😂

Shot in the foot

Aposterhasnoname · 23/09/2019 13:59

Moot point as it won’t happen. Looking forward to hearing how Labour plan to finance this. “We’ll make “the rich” pay for their kids.” Like er, private schools you mean.

BanKittenHeels · 23/09/2019 14:04

Oh is this about Labour?
I’m a Labour voter but they aren’t going to get in even with the Tories being as shoddy as they currently are.

Might as well ask what the royals are going to do when Labour ban tiaras and castles.

And even if private schools did disappear for whatever reason, rich areas will become little rich enclaves on a bigger scale than now. People will continue buy in certain areas to get their kids into the best schools until people in lower incomes send their kids to broke schools and others battle to get their kids in to the same Comp as Prince George’s grandkids.

megletthesecond · 23/09/2019 14:06

It's not going to happen because Labour are currently shite and never going to win with Corbyn in charge.

And I'm a member hanging on by a thread and hoping they come to their senses and get rid of him.

Merename · 23/09/2019 14:06

I’m excited by this ambitious policy which I agree is very unlikely to happen, due to the power held by those who have a vested interest in private schools’ existence. But it is a bold attempt to tackle inequality - which has been shown to make EVERYONE unhappier, not just those less wealthy.

EmilyStar · 23/09/2019 14:08

I’m presuming that the mega wealthy and powerful will still be able to send their children to exclusive private schools abroad, if they’re keen to avoid their children mixing with commoners.

Or there’s always home schooling. I bet the Royal Family could afford excellent tutors.

100PercentThatBitch · 23/09/2019 14:10

He seems quite determined to make himself unelectable

Metriti · 23/09/2019 14:10

Never going to happen but the mega rich would send kids to schools abroad.

hardrainsgonnafall · 23/09/2019 14:12

Are they going to close the unis too?

They charge huge fees

😁

AsTheWorldTurns · 23/09/2019 14:14

But it is a bold attempt to tackle inequality - which has been shown to make EVERYONE unhappier, not just those less wealthy.

So the aim is to eliminate inequality across the board, not just private schools? Wow.

Also, can we have some information on this study?

CruCru · 23/09/2019 14:15

The thing is, the Royal family need schools that can cope with their fairly serious security requirements (as well as being excellent schools). I should think that when the D&D of C we’re looking at schools, there were only a few that they could realistically consider.

I would be amazed if there were many state primary schools that would be able to accommodate the security team who accompany Prince George and the extra security people when his parents attend parents’ evening or a school play.

It will never happen. I can't imagine any country deciding to abolish it - why would they ? The government would have to build multitudes of public schools for all the kids who have lost their private schools - where would the money come for all that ? I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for that to happen.

Amcor · 23/09/2019 14:17

He’s appealing to the uneducated with this con. Are they going to ban other private lessons also? Sports clubs? Music? Language lessons?

BaronessBomburst · 23/09/2019 14:23

They'd all be educated abroad instead.
But it won't happen.

TonTonMacoute · 23/09/2019 14:23

DS was at Eton, I was always amused at some of the parents who cropped up at various events - quite a few lefty media types!

EmeraldShamrock · 23/09/2019 14:25

Ridiculous to suggest banning private schools.
From the sound of some of the state some UK state school's on threads, lack of stationary, over worked teachers.
Labour should concentrate on ways to improve them.

Basecamp65 · 23/09/2019 14:26

They will go back to the traditional route the Royals take - Home Education.

Mind you we will have to be worried about their socialisation. Grin

timshelthechoice · 23/09/2019 14:28

FFS, private schools will not be abolished. That won't ever happen. Who gives a fuck about the 'royal' family, too?
