Doctor lecturing me about smoking weed? Feeling judged.

I had an appointment regarding my anxiety and doctor asked if I’d considered any other form of treatment.

I responded that I had considered CBD oil.

I got an extremely dirty look and told it’s not regulated and she would not be giving me a prescription for it.

Then went on about smoking cannabis.

Firstly I never asked or expected a prescription for it.

Also smoking cannabis is nothing like having a few drops of CBD oil - afaik

I felt really and very wrongly judged.

You're incredibly touchy and prickly. If you react to people IRL the way you do here, I expect you come away from a lot of meetings feeling very frustrated.

In susceptible people, cannabis can trigger MH problems ranging from mild to extreme severity. I have met some whose lives never recovered from the damage done.

As you are already exhibiting MH symptoms, that suggests your neurology may be in the cannabis-susceptible group, and it would be very sensible to take your doctors advice to stop using it.

Definitely not being unreasonable. CBD oil is a alternative therapy. Holland and barest and other health food shops sell it. It’s meant to be great for all sorts of ailments. I think a lot of people have started off on the wrong foot.
Alternative therapies are and should be recommended by doctors often for cancer patients and for reducing pain in people that suffer with lifelong conditions such as fibromyalgia. I think this doctor either sounds a bit old hat or hasn’t got a clue what you were talking about. Do what’s right for you..

@DorisTheFlorist

I said I’d considered taking CBD oil from a health food store.

So you said you'd considered taking a cannabis then.

"Taking a cannabis" is the best thing I've read all day.
HarebrightCedarmoon · 07/07/2021 14:59

Sounds like the GP is ignorant about CBD oil. They really should be reading up on and keeping up to date with these things.

Why go to a doctor and ask for medical advice if you’re going to get all pissy about it?

MouldyPotato · 07/07/2021 15:17

They probably have to tell you its not regulated. And they always give me a "try to avoid alcohol" chat even though I'm teetotal so I expect its the same with cannabis.

Zombie thread!

@LittleLongDog

So you said you'd considered taking a cannabis then.

Some of these answers are hilarious.

CBD oil (eg from Holland and Barrett) is not the same a smoking cannabis.

The GP didnt understand and gave OP a lecture about something she’s not even doing.

OP, YANBU.

I know! I don’t think the people accusing the OP of smoking weed read the opening post at all.

CBD oil has NO high whatsoever. It’s taken as capsules normally.

It appears that the GP doesn’t understand the difference.
