AIBU to ask everyone who can to get behind Greta Thunberg, even if only online, as she's now getting a lot a lot a lot of hate. She clearly threatens people - especially her polar opposites, men, rich old men, powerful men (did I mention men?). Let's all give her the lurve and support she needs.
So on FB I challenged one just now - Why are you attacking a young woman? - and he disappeared. Funny, that.

Billions of people flooding into countries that still have a liveable climate. Mass food, water and electricity shortages. That will mean people fighting on the streets, bin diving, having to have weapons to defend against people invading your home and robbing your food supplies

Ok you must be taking the piss. How could anyone believe this?

manicmij · 23/09/2019 21:15

See today at UN she basically said that adults do not care. Way, way wrong. Adults that I know do care and a lot of folk here too. Think she should direct her concerns strictly to politicians and should also have solutions ready. We can all shout about climate change but who has the solution. Watched a programme about a city in Vietnam that basically disappeared forno reason approx 800 years ago. Research and technology found massive flooding to be the cause and lasted for 30 years the years of drought unearthed the lost city. Can we turn back the tide? Wait and see.

It wouldn’t be hard to feel like that when she gets a lot of opposition. I feel like that after reading this thread.

Her approach is so irritating than her message is lost (quick poll in work office!).

coatlessinspokane · 23/09/2019 21:26

See today at UN she basically said that adults do not care.

Actually she was addressing world leaders, not the entire older generation. I'm pretty sure that adults who do care won't take offence!

I wonder if the opinion that's she irritating is more prevalent amongst those who don't like the messageHmm

Caucho · 23/09/2019 21:43

I think the haters would be less likely to be haters if she hadn’t been canonised by the annoying fan boys and fan girls she has.

It’s not her I rally against. She’s a 16 year old girl and that’s what she should be treated as. I am also of the view she’s being used but I run the risk of being accused of patronising saying that. There is a lot more to Greta than Greta herself. There’s a huge machine behind her but they don’t have any qualms between hiding behind an innocent kid as it’s better PR for them

kilburnqueen · 23/09/2019 21:46

I think she's amazing. She's so brave and conveys a simple message so clearly - I wouldn't say boo to a goose and she's addressing the UN for, well all of us really.
I can't stand the lazy, corrupt attitude of mostly middle aged white politicians towards climate policy. And yes they are sexist.
I just don't get it - who doesn't like cleaner air, cleaner water, less disease, better socio-economic security? There's literally no downside to not trashing our planet.

Pomegranatepompom · 23/09/2019 21:46

No, the message is good but do just choose to be negative as that obviously fits your narrative.

Caucho · 23/09/2019 21:49

And no she shouldn’t be talking so much shit as a 16 year old kid. As someone previously said she looks like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders and if her parents should be taking her out of the firing line if they care for her welfare. It’s time for others to put the work in rather than rely on a vulnerable youngster

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 23/09/2019 22:05

You don't believe this? You think a population of billions can grow exponentially, industry can grow exponentially with no severely detrimental effects?

It's already starting, there's a mountain of evidence - look at the NASA website or IPCC report. What I said could easily be reality in a few generations time - climate refugees, food shortages and war.

The thing that gets me she comments that you stole my childhood, the world leaders or myself didn't that is due to your parents who are activists stealing your childhood don't blame others.

She's a pawn of her parents

AutumnRose1 · 23/09/2019 22:09

I apologise if this has been mentioned and I've not seen it

Has Greta said anything about overpopulation?

bakedbeanzontoast · 23/09/2019 22:15

@MissLadyM I imagine you will but at least I know it's not just me who finds the pair of them irritating. I thought I was the only one on the planet who found Malala annoying (!!)

Opinions aside, I don't understand why anyone would directly spout venom towards someone in the internet. So as much as Greta is irritating I certainly don't support the nasty stuff about her or anyone else.

She's an irritating gob shite! I expect to get flamed but she's just like Malala. A preachy self publicist.
ShockHmmShockHmmShockHmm

Wtf is wrong with you

MissLadyM · 23/09/2019 22:30

Nothing to do with her age. I just find her and Malala irritating and more interested in themselves. Saying that, I don't support attacking them on twitter etc, I just chose to ignore them. Incidentally, everyone in my circle feels the same!

Italiangreyhound · 23/09/2019 22:33

I'm embarrassed on behalf of people who can criticize young women who have given so much for others. It really is utterly puzzling.

IAmALazyArse · 23/09/2019 22:34

Taliban, is that you?

coatlessinspokane · 23/09/2019 22:34

She's a pawn of her parents

I think it’s the other way round. She made her parents go vegan, her mum give up her international opera career and both of them to stop shopping.
