Or is this grim

Out at a local pub this aft, it’s near a beauty spot and dog friendly. Fine not a problem.

They have bowls outside at the front for water for the dogs. Guy comes to the bar with one in his hand asking for it to be refilled. Fine, barmaid then proceeds to take it from him with her hand inside the bowl (it’s filthy and covered in mud and dog saliva/poo presumably) comes back out with it and immediately starts serving. I’m next daren’t say anything (I know) pick up the drinks and think nah I’m not having these. Take them back and collar someone else and ask them to swap them. They did. They went and said something to her but she still didn’t go wash her hands. Am right in thinking this is totally gross?

Should I email them, surely it’s a massive hygiene risk - they serve food as well Shock.

I’m a right minger when it comes to my own dogs, but even I think this is a bit grim. However, what I don’t understand is why the bloke brought the dog bowl into the pub in the first place. That’s just as gross. Why didn’t he just go in and ask for some water?

One wonders how people coped before antibacterial crap.

People died before hygiene was a thing. Literally. Hygiene has saved millions of lives.

There is a middle ground between anti-bacterial soaps (OTT and counterproductive because we do need some germs) and not washing at all.
Regular washing with normal soap is fine and desirable.

I suspect people washed their hands before ‘antibacterial crap’. My grandmothers certainly did!

DappledThings · 21/09/2019 21:21

I wouldn't have clocked this at all

Aprillygirl · 21/09/2019 21:35

That is gross. I probably would just make a mental note not to go there again rather than send an email, though they should probably be alerted about how such basic hygiene is omitted at their premises ugh.

Bit grim, yes.

I once went to the butcher who was using rubber gloves, paid with coins and they just used their gloves that they'd been handling raw meat with to put them in the register, and served another customer! The filth that must be on coins! Luckily I was buying chicken carcasses to boil within an inch of their lives!

I think most people who have dogs have been seem to have been blinded to the grimness.

And yet we continue to thrive..
