Or is this grim

Out at a local pub this aft, it’s near a beauty spot and dog friendly. Fine not a problem.

They have bowls outside at the front for water for the dogs. Guy comes to the bar with one in his hand asking for it to be refilled. Fine, barmaid then proceeds to take it from him with her hand inside the bowl (it’s filthy and covered in mud and dog saliva/poo presumably) comes back out with it and immediately starts serving. I’m next daren’t say anything (I know) pick up the drinks and think nah I’m not having these. Take them back and collar someone else and ask them to swap them. They did. They went and said something to her but she still didn’t go wash her hands. Am right in thinking this is totally gross?

Should I email them, surely it’s a massive hygiene risk - they serve food as well Shock.

Sorry, one more word.

Toxomoplasmis.

Moominfan · 21/09/2019 15:12

I'd be more worried about her handling money then drinks.

Rachelover60 · 21/09/2019 15:12

I doubt there would have been poo in the bowl. Whatever made you think that?

The woman probably did rinse her hands after refilling bowl with water but so what if she didnt, you're not going to die.

Topseyt · 21/09/2019 15:13

She should really have washed her hands before serving again, but really, I think you are being very OTT and precious here. Any risk is minimal.

Our dogs are usually allowed to lick our plates after dinner, and the plates then go in the dishwasher, as do the dogs' own food bowls. Make of that what you will.

Oh, and dogs do not poo in their bowls. Nor pee in them. Mine don't anyway. They might sniff each other's arses and have a wank by licking their own willies, but that is no worse than babies who have pooed in their nappies shoving their hands down in and then admiring what they come out with.

AlansLeftMoob · 21/09/2019 15:16

I'd touch a dog bowl quicker than I'd drink from another human's glass, tbqh. How do I know that when she picks up your glass that there isn't snot or saliva or you haven't just scratched your arse and touched the glass?

Jaxhog · 21/09/2019 15:18

I'm with you OP. It suggests a complete lack of concern about hygiene generally. Who wants to drink or, worse, eat in a place that is that casual about health and hygiene?

To all dog owners. YOU may be happy with having your dog crap etc all over everything but the rest of us are not. I am constantly amazed by the sheer CFery of dog owners and hygiene. I've even had a dog owner think it's ok for her dog to try to lick my sandwich plate. While it still had sandwiches on it! I moved.

AravisTarkheena · 21/09/2019 15:19

Good lord. Yes yabu - as pos have said there will be bacteria on money, people’s credit cards, phones etc etc. This is not a problem.

ariamontgomery · 21/09/2019 15:21

Omg you’re ridiculous. Why on earth would there be dog poo in a water bowl?! And presumably the woman didn’t put her hand IN your drink, just on the bottom of your glass? You sound like someone who is difficult for the sake of it.

TumblingTumbleWeeds · 21/09/2019 15:23

Dogs don't lick other dogs bums.

HeadintheiClouds · 21/09/2019 15:24

Grim 🤢

tommyshaircut · 21/09/2019 15:27

How do you know she didn't wash her hands when she refilled it ?

myadviceisdontskippaps · 21/09/2019 15:27

FYI, you can also get the bacteria causing food poisoning from dog spit ... found this out to my detriment one Christmas time and ended up in hospital on New Years. So yes in a place where the standards for food hygiene and cleanliness are supposed to be higher, this is pretty nasty.

NearlyGranny · 21/09/2019 15:30

YANBU and I would have had no hesitation in asking the bar person to wash their hands after handling the dog bowl before serving me.

I think I would have given my order and added, "...but I'm happy to wait while you wash your hands after filling that dog bowl."

LizB62A · 21/09/2019 15:38

she wouldn’t have touched the part of the glass you drink from.
I wouldn't be too sure of that.
At one of our offices, one of the staff picks up the cups/mugs by putting her hand inside them. I never get a drink when she's there.... (have pointed it out before but she still does it.....)

QuestionableMouse · 21/09/2019 15:45

I agree that it's bit grim.

The cleaning rules at work say that we should wash our hands at least once per hour or after handling a dirty item such as bins. I've refilled dog bowls at work and would always wash my hands after. It's just good practice.

UpbeatDolores · 21/09/2019 15:49

I think it’s great for dog lovers and dog owners to get a bit more aware, and to realise that many of the rest of us find their dogs, pretty gross and stinking. Particularly, their dog dirt.

Derbee · 21/09/2019 15:59

I think money is much worse. I love the thought of a dog drinking with its bum though 😂

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 21/09/2019 16:01

Grim.

I wash dog bowls all the time and I always wash my hand after handling them.

QualCheckBot · 21/09/2019 16:03

I would have said YABU but yesterday I noticed 2 threadworm type things moving about, clearly alive, in the bowl I leave outside for the semi feral farm cats. About 10cm long, very thin and quite light coloured? Anyway, now I'm thinking worms and have bleached everything in sight. YANBU. Worms. Ugh.

1forAll74 · 21/09/2019 16:14

I wouldn't get uptight about this, or probably wouldn't notice it. I worked on a farm once, and people milk cows.feed and pick up chickens,, muck the stables out, feed and water the dogs, then go and have a cuppa in the kitchen, all without a wash of their hands, as they are all too busy all day,

EmmiJay · 21/09/2019 16:17

How are people saying thats not grim?! Confused See...this is why plagues are going to make a come back. Some people are way to relaxed for my liking. GrinGrin

TheMustressMhor · 21/09/2019 16:24

Easy to pass on worm eggs in their saliva

Worm eggs are not passed via saliva.

Neither is toxoplasmosis.

Lweji · 21/09/2019 16:28

I agree she should have washed her hands. In fact, she should wash hands frequently and shouldn't really handle money and food at the same time.

And I'm not a hygiene freak. I don't think it's a massive hygiene problem. But it's a problem.

JemSynergy · 21/09/2019 16:35

It is disgusting and I would send an email, that way the manager can brief staff about good practice and hygiene!

Weedinosaurus · 21/09/2019 16:43

Probably worse stuff on the money she handles and the bar surfaces she touches...
