Hi
Sorry I know this is the B word but not directly .
I have to travel to London for work that day. I suffer with anxiety and travelling is a big deal for me anyway so the thought of going on the day we supposedly Bxxxxxx is making me feel like I'm going to be sick!! M

For the record I want mainly YABU so I can see it's nothing worse than any other day Grin

@relax2 Could not read (a bit) and run. I do feel for you 💐.
Anxiety is awful, debilitating.

Those who've posted nasty things to you aren't being fair or kind, so please don't take heed.

I would try and tell yourself it's just another day (which it is, really). And do ask for help.

My anxiety is around escalator - the heights and a feeling of falling.
I once had a panic attack on a tube escalator (Angel, which all Londoners know is a bitch) - the guy behind me noticed me shaking uncontrollably, stepped up beside me (standing on the left! Gasp!) and held my hand. Got to the top and a TfL guy got me a bottle of water and told me the bus routes I could take to get to another tube station with smaller escalators for on my way home from that meeting.

People will help.

Read up on the concepts of "Radical Acceptance" and "Coping Ahead" (DBT, which is a bit like CBT). It's about recognising you def are going to find things tough, but then laying out almost a flow-chart of the actions you'll take for each circumstance. Having a "plan" in place for every worst case scenario.

Nothing is going to happen in London, you will be fine but I understand your anxiety.

@midcenturylegs thank you so much. I feel more rational again this morning , maybe night times are worse. I'm going to try and not think about it now till it arrives :)

OP can you use Rescue Remedy spray? I found it brilliant.
I definitely think you’ll be ok. I wish you well with your fears.

Not sure why people are piling on the OP about this tbh. That leaked Operation Yellowhammer doc made perfectly clear the government think that civil unrest is a possibility on Brexit. It seems perfectly plausible to me that there will be unrest in London on Brexit day - especially if Boris is pressing ahead without a clear legal basis for doing so, as he has threatened. I live in London and I'd probably avoid unnecessary travel in those sorts of circumstances. We've had riots in the capitol in recent memory after all. Not the most likely circumstance, but not an impossible one either.

Hey OP, ignore the people that are being nasty to you, a lot of them just like to be cruel for the sake of it as it makes them feel sueprior. And many are very ignorant about anxiety and what worries it can bring.
You will be absolutely fine on that day, if you do any breathing excerises, practice them if you get anxious. Also talk to a friend about it. Flowers

It’s certainly possible there may be protests. Avoid Westminster, Downing St and Trafalgar Sq.

Aside from those places, London is likely to carry on as normal.

OP you have been extremely gracious on this thread in the face of some unkind and poorly informed responses.

Anxiety is a bastard and we live in uncertain times. You are not unreasonable to ask the question here, not should you be made to feel silly.

I hope your trip goes well.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 21/09/2019 10:05

Anxiety is crap, and so are the irrational feelings that go with it - especially when it doesn’t feel irrational but you know it probably is.

I’m travelling from France back to UK on 31st. I can’t decide if it’s going to be awful, same as always or something completely different!

relax2 · 21/09/2019 10:27

Ahh thanks all who have replied and been kind.
Overall mostly the threat has been people who totally understand anxiety and how it can become massive at times.
Rescue remedy - I will use this thank you :) I need to check today where exactly I am staying so I can plan it and avoid accidentally going into places where there might be a lot of unrest xx
