Hi
Sorry I know this is the B word but not directly .
I have to travel to London for work that day. I suffer with anxiety and travelling is a big deal for me anyway so the thought of going on the day we supposedly Bxxxxxx is making me feel like I'm going to be sick!! M

For the record I want mainly YABU so I can see it's nothing worse than any other day Grin

@Walkaround it's more the uncertainty

@dowehaveastalker no problem I just need to hear that the majority have no worries :)

@RosaWaiting glad I'm not alone. Anxiety is horrible isn't it xx

SquirmOfEels · 20/09/2019 20:48

I'd be more worried about leaving London that day because of the start-of-half-term getaway

And Hallowe'en 'pranks' for scariness

relax2 · 20/09/2019 20:48

@SquirmOfEels start? Isn't it the end of it on the 1st?

Probably! I'm easily confused

RosaWaiting · 20/09/2019 20:53

OP, thank you, yes, it’s hard.

Are you the same in terms of just dreading the grimness of public transport? It will also depend on your timings as well.

I’ve had that thing of waiting at work while police clear the area, or just having to pile past protestors as well as usual rush hour crowd....it’s just not worth the stress unless I have to. Boss said I’m not the only one looking to rearrange stuff that day but she’s fine about it. I don’t disclose mental health issues at work but I think a lot of local businesses are aware of what a pain in the arse day it’s likely to be.

Ninkaninus · 20/09/2019 20:54

I understand anxiety very well. So I’m not going to tell you to get a grip.

It’ll be okay. On the day, and also when Brexit rolls round.

The world has been turning for millennia before we were here and it will continue to do so whilst we’re here, Brexit or not, and for millennia to come. Your children will be fine, and mine too. People who are only marginally older than us lived through world wars and huge political upheaval. If needed, we would cope with that too, grim as it would be.

Brexit is a blip.

Happysummer2020 · 20/09/2019 20:54

I dont think it's fair to minimise the OPs concerns. Our security team have been liaising with Scotland yard as have all the corporates in London as the police are anticipating a threat of unrest and disruption, whatever format that might take.

Sure, on the day none of that will probably happen but the authorities are preparing for it so if that's enough of a risk for the OP to feel anxious then her feelings are valid.

Mammylamb · 20/09/2019 20:55

I think people are being a bit harsh on OP.

OP, do you happen to have any anxiety disorders or OCD? The reason I ask is that I have OCD and get very worked up around certain things and possible events which I catastrophize in my mind

relax2 · 20/09/2019 20:56

@RosaWaiting I have to know my exact route . I used to have terrible panic attacks on public transport and sometimes didn't make it.
One time I was crying (very quietly) on the train, a man came and sat opposite me he started to chat, told me how he used to be anxious too and how he had overcome it, we spoke all the way till my stop and since that day I've always felt stronger when travelling because some people are kind and not always stuck in their own bubble.
I've been to London a lot this year and still have 5 more trips before Xmas , every time I go it feels easier but this particular trip is causing a bit of anxiety flare up. I'll be fine though I know this now :)

unmumsymumof2 · 20/09/2019 20:57

Honestly thought you were unwilling to travel because it's halloweeen and they're might be lots of people dressed up on the tube at night 🤣

relax2 · 20/09/2019 20:59

@Mammylamb yes I do have an anxiety disorder , it actually tends to be more health related these days but being alone and travelling does make it worse too. I have pills to take if I feel it's bad. I do sometimes catastrophise however I try now and get a grip before it becomes too big otherwise it takes over for days /weeks .
Anxiety isn't something you can just stop or get a grip of overnight it takes a lot of pushing through comfort zones and finding other methods of calming yourself down when needed. I take my hat off to anyone suffering and still functioning without it impacting their daily life

OP posts:
relax2 · 20/09/2019 21:00

L@unmumsymumof2 I am 100% not going on any tubes that night!!

OP posts:
RosaWaiting · 20/09/2019 21:01

OP yes I’ve sat with anxious women on the Tube

It’s quite funny because I’ve seen them having panic attacks and been all “oh, let’s rant about anxiety together and take deep breaths” so in theory we shouldn’t be helpful to each other but sometimes it’s like “thank goodness it’s not just me”.

If you feel dizzy or anything on the Tube, do shout out and you’ll get a seat. Much as I hate London now, I still love Londoners, we’re all lovely. Wink

dappledsunshine · 20/09/2019 21:02

As a fellow anxiety sufferer op I get it and for what it's worth I think you sound like you're doing a great job making those trips even though you feel anxious.

I can't see there being any issues but I understand how anything "out of the ordinary" can play on the anxious mind.

If I were you I'd expect to perhaps feel a bit more anxious then usual for the journey but use whatever techniques help, I find the headspace app good or listening to a really good audiobook on headphones. You'll do it and you'll feel even stronger for doing it (I'll be telling myself that when I get on a plane for first time in years next week) 😬

relax2 · 20/09/2019 21:02

@RosaWaiting honestly , love London, it's so vibrant and I just love watching people. I have never ever had anything but kindness when I have asked for help- my only gripe is it's hot there!! Always stuffy 😂

OP posts:
relax2 · 20/09/2019 21:03

@dappledsunshine thank you and good luck next week!! That's another challenge I will face early next year!!

Lvsel · 20/09/2019 21:04

Oh Brexit lol sorry

NameChangeNugget · 20/09/2019 21:05

I thought that too @unmumsymumof2 Grin

OP, you’ll be fine Flowers

LEELULUMPKIN · 20/09/2019 21:06

It's the end of days of us for all apparently OP so it won't matter where you are. You can't escape the rapture

Lvsel · 20/09/2019 21:06

Now it makes sense.
Theres likely going to be a lot of shit going on as its halloween and police are super busy on that day as with Brexit happening probably people pissed off

Not looking forward to it tbh live in London will be stocking up before then on supplies in case.

ragged · 20/09/2019 21:07

What TIME are we scheduled to leave EU on 31 October? Is it 11pm like 29th March was supposed to be?

Thanks in advance.

timshelthechoice · 20/09/2019 21:29

Can I have your ticket money then? LOL. Then I can meet my mate and travel up together with her to our holiday in the Lakes. YABU.

ragged · 20/09/2019 21:38

Found the info on BBC. 11pm again.
"The UK is due to leave the European Union (EU) at 23:00 GMT on 31 October 2019. "

1 November is the first bad day, then.

NapsAndTea · 20/09/2019 22:14

Lol from the title I just assumed you didn't want to travel on Halloween 🎃😂
