Hi
Sorry I know this is the B word but not directly .
I have to travel to London for work that day. I suffer with anxiety and travelling is a big deal for me anyway so the thought of going on the day we supposedly Bxxxxxx is making me feel like I'm going to be sick!! M

For the record I want mainly YABU so I can see it's nothing worse than any other day Grin

😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Anothernotherone · 20/09/2019 20:24

I'm avoiding flying into the British isles from mainland Europe that day (mainly due to wanting to avoid getting stuck due to cancelled flights getting back out) so I don't think you're wholly irrational.

I'm a remainer but I sort of wish it would happen because I postponed a trip planned for the end of March the last time it was extended! Obviously I'd rather article 50 were revoked, but the constant uncertainty is the worst of all worlds.

I'm sure London itself will be fine, though it's not impossible your train home the next day or day after might be delayed.

Yadid · 20/09/2019 20:24

I find Londoners to be the most aloof people on the planet. Honestly, a bomb could go off and they'd just be worrying about getting on their train/tube. I would expect absolutely nothing to happen that date. Months later perhaps if the shit hits the fan, but you'll be as safe as houses.

HappyParent2000 · 20/09/2019 20:24

I had to go to London twice recently, was dreading going on a Monday but it wasn’t that bad in the end. It was making me very worried but it came to nothing in the end.

Anothernotherone · 20/09/2019 20:26

Oh yes TheAlternativeTentacle 's post has reminded me that I went to watch anti capitalism demos in my lunch break when I worked near Liverpool Street twenty years ago - they were a spectator sport in the day although they got nasty after dark.

lotusbell · 20/09/2019 20:26

You struggle to write the word Brexit?!

BahHumbygge · 20/09/2019 20:27

It’s a perfectly reasonable question to ask, anxiety or not. OP, play it by ear in the days leading up to the 31st to see if there’s any protests planned and the general mood of the populace. Things may not kick off till november.

HoneyandSpice · 20/09/2019 20:29

Sorry you are feeling like this.
And sorry some people have made you feel like you are ridiculous..
I think Yadid had the best response.
Some of the other responses have been downright nasty. And just goes to show how Brexit has divided the UK

dowehaveastalker · 20/09/2019 20:30

oh jesus christ. Get over yourself OP! Its Halloween. Another day. The apocalypse that everyone is stocking for isn't going to happen in a day. What do you actually think is going to happen? The army to patrol the streets? Barricades put up? Food rations to be divided? And - if you are here for work, what do you think work will say when you tell then you don't want to travel because you are scared of the 'b' word? Confused

relax2 · 20/09/2019 20:30

I will be travelling down and staying. It is compulsory for work. Can't remember exact location of hotel however doubt its Westminster way so you are all right and I just need to get a grip Grinwhich from this moment on I will :)

dowehaveastalker · 20/09/2019 20:32

and @Yadid - i was there when the bomb went off on the train, my husband was affected and we are londoners. I ASSURE you, we were not aloof on that day. Don't be so rude.

mindutopia · 20/09/2019 20:34

There will be loads of people (me included) who will be travelling to London (because we do every day). If you can’t travel, talk to your employer. But life won’t just stop for everyone. Brexit or no, the world has to go on.

Evilmorty · 20/09/2019 20:35

I live here and grew up here, in one of the worst bits. A bus is still a bus whatever road it’s on. A train is still a train whatever track it’s on. It will be completely fine. Do people who aren’t from London or other cities not go anywhere because of fear? Hmm

London isn’t like Oliver anymore, we aren’t all waiting in dark alleyways to pick your pocket and rob your shoes.

TheCanterburyWhales · 20/09/2019 20:35

"don't be so rude"
Said the pot. Hmm

@dowehaveastalker I didn't say scared - I said anxious .

@Evilmorty actually I didn't ever travel to a city and I was terrified the first time. The more I have done it the better i have become and for the record I actually love London, it is my favourite city and by the end of month I'll have been 7 times this year but it isn't obscene to have anxiety about the potential issues that might arise that you don't face in your daily life normally .

As for work , they are aware of how I feel and actually are supportive - I know, fancy that eh, supportive employers 🙄

I wonder if everyone in London will be dressing up as Boris Johnson for Halloween this year. Or Rees Mogg, because he already looks ghoulish. Johnson would make an excellent Guy for the bonfire on the 5th, too, in Remain voting areas - thoroughly appropriate, given his attitude to Parliament Grin. Personally, I don't think it is unreasonable to wonder what the atmosphere will be like, but I wouldn't have thought it would be bad enough that all travel to London would be inadvisable!

relax2 · 20/09/2019 20:39

@mindutopia I will travel, I will face my anxiety about the day however I just would rather not if I didn't have to. I now actually feel better despite some horrible responses because many are saying nothing to worry about .

Silverlining101 · 20/09/2019 20:40

Get a grip.

Evilmorty · 20/09/2019 20:40

I think you should get out more then. I know that sounds harsh but I mean it kindly. The more you travel the less scary it is, and London is no scarier than any other city.

relax2 · 20/09/2019 20:40

@Silverlining101 trying Grin

OP posts:
relax2 · 20/09/2019 20:42

@Evilmorty yep I am. Like I said been loads this year and now I can do it with pretty little fuss most of the time Grinactually not my fault I led a very sheltered life until I became an adult and tried to push out of my comfort zones .

OP posts:
Walkaround · 20/09/2019 20:43

If serious violence were a concern, I think there would be some kind of official warning in advance, anyway.

dowehaveastalker · 20/09/2019 20:44

@relax2 - my apologies, I dont mean to/ didnt mean to sound rude. Nothing will happen on the day. It'll be fine.

@TheCanterburyWhales - yes, i said dont be so rude, i was on the train as was my husband. I am offended and rightly so. I was not 'aloof' the day the bombs went off.

RosaWaiting · 20/09/2019 20:44

OP I’m a Londoner with anxiety and I get it

It largely depends where you have to go but I’ve rearranged work that day so I don’t have to go in. It will be an interesting day I’m sure, but the impact on transport will be pretty high and I fucking hate it as it is.

StrangeLookingParasite · 20/09/2019 20:45

Sounds like the hysteria about the millennium, much ado about nothing.

Hmm This is now the hallmark of the utter fool.
