Hi
Sorry I know this is the B word but not directly .
I have to travel to London for work that day. I suffer with anxiety and travelling is a big deal for me anyway so the thought of going on the day we supposedly Bxxxxxx is making me feel like I'm going to be sick!! M

For the record I want mainly YABU so I can see it's nothing worse than any other day Grin

I thought everyone would know it was Brexit I struggle to write it because I'm so worried what it might bring

You struggle to even write the word Brexit? You need some real help. Please go and explain the above to your GP.

Passthecherrycoke · 20/09/2019 19:19

Yes I understand anxiety very well.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 20/09/2019 19:20

I think the OP is getting a rough time here - I live in a big city myself and am wondering about the potential for civil unrest when the leaving date finally arrives (or indeed, even if it doesn't).

OP, keep your head down and get in and out - you should be ok. Maybe a bit delayed if people do protest and cause stations to be closed (or whatever), so have a bottle of water and some snack bars with you (and a book). That should see you right.

Butchyrestingface · 20/09/2019 19:21

I do get support from GP for anxiety however I don't feel this is irrational Confused

Luckily for you, Mumsnet is here to tell you that it is. Wink

colourlessgreenidea · 20/09/2019 19:21

Being so worried that you can’t type the word ‘Brexit’ absolutely is irrational, i.e completely illogical.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/09/2019 19:21

I honestly thought you were stressing about rampant train based trick or treaters then.

My brain obviously has Brexit fatigue. I am so fed up with it all.

relax2 · 20/09/2019 19:21

@ContessaLovesTheSunshine thanks.

I don't understand why people are horrible on here sometimes. I am not being a drama queen I just wanted some helpful words.
I do struggle with anxiety and I do see my GP and have support for it but sometimes it helps to write it down - maybe next time I won't on here though Confused

Really 🙄🙄

relax2 · 20/09/2019 19:23

@colourlessgreenidea actually the main reason I didn't type is because I'm sure everyone is sick of the posts too- but I don't like talking about it either because the uncertainty for someone with anxiety makes it worse. Please stop focusing on the minor detail that I didn't write it . If you have nothing nice to say and all that. I'm not bat shit crazy just thought I might get some reassurance from here.

Wrong again!

I thought you were worried because it’s Halloween. It didn’t enter my mind you were taking about Brexit. In the nicest possible way OP you are being ridiculous

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 19:24

Perfectly reasonable to ask the question. I'll be in Ireland.

relax2 · 20/09/2019 19:25

@Answerthequestion oh god I had forgotten!! I really hope there isn't any clowns out!

SconeofDestiny · 20/09/2019 19:25

OP, have you tried hypnosis for your anxiety?
My DH treats people with all sorts of anxieties/phobias etc. such as fear of flying and I think that travelling into the city when you don't do it regularly, could be quite stressful and make you focus on your worries rather than viewing it as an everyday task.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 20/09/2019 19:26

To be fair to the OP, you can quite easily get your head bitten off on these threads for daring to mention Brexit in any way at all - it's not surprising that she'd be nervous about writing it Grin

Brexit is the biggest thing to happen to this country in a generation, and hostility has had time to ferment for 3 years in both Remainers and Leavers. How can everyone be totally confident that those tensions won't boil over on the day? Sensible to plan ahead and be prepared - not bunker-style prepared, but have extra snacks to shore you up if your train is delayed/tube station shut/bus sitting in stationary traffic etc. That sort of prepared.

relax2 · 20/09/2019 19:27

@SconeofDestiny I have been using meditation and I am a million times better than I was 12 months ago with going to cities on public transport - I don't cry anymore! I have some really good techniques and I'm usually fine now but this date is playing on my mind and I would just have preferred home not London during that few days 31st onwards but I'm glad to hear I'm being totally ridiculous and will try and relax now :)

thecatinthetwat · 20/09/2019 19:28

Check to see if any protests are arranged for the day. Check your routes. You should be fine.

relax2 · 20/09/2019 19:28

@ContessaLovesTheSunshine I'm actually staying over so hopefully once there can just stay local to hotel and hope no scary gouls jump out at me as a Halloween trick! Grin

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 20/09/2019 19:29

I think you might also expect to see a few more armed police about on the day at transport hubs, OP; I say this so you can expect it and not be worried. I commuted in and out of central London for several years and every so often the police presence ramped up. I would be very surprised if they weren't planning to be very visible at a time of (potentially) high national tension.

relax2 · 20/09/2019 19:29

@thecatinthetwat thank you I will do that too (didn't know you could )

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 20/09/2019 19:30

x-posted!

Have you got a continental breakfast lined up for the next day OP? I would find that quite droll Grin

relax2 · 20/09/2019 19:31

@ContessaLovesTheSunshine full English!! 😂😂 phew!!

I wasn’t focussing on the ‘minor detail’ of you not writing the word, I was focusing on the rather extreme and bizarre explanation you gave for not writing it, and your subsequent appraisal of this ‘not irrational’.

But seeing as you’ve changed your mind about your ‘reason’, it’s moot anyway. Hmm

relax2 · 20/09/2019 19:34

@colourlessgreenidea I didn't say anything about not writing it because it made me sick did i? I apologised for mentioning the b word I then said the thought of going the day we - and I didn't spell it directly made me feel sick. If I did , then yea , like I say I don't like to talk or write about it however there isn't any need to everyone knows what I'm talking about!

OP posts:
Adviceorhelp · 20/09/2019 19:34

I’m not sure why people on here get so uppity about other people’s worries. It’s like they have been personally affronted.
Anyway...
You’re very anxious and anxiety is bloody awful. Crippling even. I worry about a lot of things but am not worrying about Brexit because I have no control over it and I don’t think anything particular will happen on the day. I’m in London every day so probably my familiarity with travelling through crowds makes me less anxious about it. It will be just another day. Plan a treat for that evening perhaps, or the next day to give you another focus.

relax2 · 20/09/2019 19:35

@colourlessgreenidea yes I see where I said it now. Ignore me I'm clearly pathetic
