Hi
Sorry I know this is the B word but not directly .
I have to travel to London for work that day. I suffer with anxiety and travelling is a big deal for me anyway so the thought of going on the day we supposedly Bxxxxxx is making me feel like I'm going to be sick!! M

For the record I want mainly YABU so I can see it's nothing worse than any other day Grin

@Adviceorhelp thank you. Yes I'll try and put it to the back of my mind. I will try and lean on some nicer colleagues that day if it feels stressful there :)

I wouldn’t it will be like mad max. All the rich bankers will be fighting each other to the death 😂 no seriously you’ll be fine unless a bunch of twats decide to stage some daft protest and cause transport problems.

Queenoftheashes · 20/09/2019 19:40

All the London drudges will have the same schedules and deadlines they usually do. The nuts in Westminster will be protesting but they are there every day. Where do you need to go?

TalbotAMan · 20/09/2019 19:45

I wouldn't. It's Halloween and London will be full of ghouls and zombies just like any other day.

ThirstyGhost · 20/09/2019 19:55

OP I'd post on the website No More Panic. It's really good and you'll get a lot more understanding responses on there and practical suggestions to unpick your thinking on this, which you know yourself is irrational (or you wouldn't have posted).

tillytrotter1 · 20/09/2019 19:57

Sounds like the hysteria about the millennium, much ado about nothing.

SusanJohnson · 20/09/2019 19:58

I get prescribed 3 x 40mg propranolol beta blockers a day and sertraline so that stops any anxiety or panic

bengalcat · 20/09/2019 20:00

It will be fine . Just like any other day .

TheFlis12345 · 20/09/2019 20:02

You know more people live in London itself than live in the whole of Scotland and Wales combined? We will just be carrying on, business as usual. We don't have a lot of choice in the matter! There will no doubt be some protests but there have been in Westminster every single day since the referendum. I pass most days and am yet to see any violence or anything unsavoury. Unless you're actually heading to Parliament there really should be nothing to worry about.

Bezalelle · 20/09/2019 20:03

Oh don't be so bloody daft.

Marmelised · 20/09/2019 20:03

If it helps, re protests in London. I took my elderly aunt to the theatre on Haymarket. There were big, newsworthy protests going on in Trafalgar Square (ie literally around the corner). We didn’t hear or see a thing.
London is very compartmentalised sometimes and most people are completely untouched by what’s going on just a few hundred yards away.

NoSauce · 20/09/2019 20:04

Don’t be so bloody ridiculous
Grin that made me laugh.

Aragog · 20/09/2019 20:07

I'm sure you will be fine. I can't see that much happening and changing on the actual day.

I will be travelling home from Italy, landing around 10pm. Im not concerned.

TumblingTumbleWeeds · 20/09/2019 20:09

Bloody hell!!!

I was alive & working before that 'European Common Market' bull shit and I can assure you Great Britain was doing all right back then.

lololove · 20/09/2019 20:10

I thought it was going to be because it's Halloween Grin

finger on the pulse

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 20:10

It's not about "being in " or "being out" that the op is concerned about. Ffs. It's about any trouble I n the capital. Sensible advice from a pp to look for info on protests.

Clangus00 · 20/09/2019 20:12

How did you cope with Y2K?
You’ll be fine. Do you absolutely HAVE to go to London on that day?

gavisconismyfriend · 20/09/2019 20:16

Gosh I’m slow sometimes - spent ages trying to work out which part of Halloween began with a “B” Grin. Anyway, totally understand OP - travelling to busy places is bad enough without the additional risk of riots or clowns! Take nice drinks and snacks and a good book to keep you distracted.

relax2 · 20/09/2019 20:16

@Clangus00 was a child didn't worry about it thank god!!

Yes I do it's compulsory for work .

frumpety · 20/09/2019 20:18

Honestly, it will be fine OP, I am going down on the same day as you and I am rubbish at travelling too. I might have to ring in sick if I have to walk back though Wink

GreyHare · 20/09/2019 20:19

Would it be possible to travel down the night before and spend an extra night, then if it all goes to shit you can stay holed up in your hotel (I'm sure it won't turn to shit)

Fellow anxiety ridden mess here, so I do get the anxiety over random things but I really can't get worked up over brexit.

Could you also not postpone your trip or if it gets really bad throw a sickie.

tinytemper66 · 20/09/2019 20:20

I am going to visit London on that date as it is half term! 3 days wandering around and being a top tourist!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/09/2019 20:21

You'll be fine OP. Any protests are likely to be centred around Westminster and you might find the trains are a bit busier if people are travelling to protest. Book your train in advance to make sure you have a seat, and maybe treat yourself to first class if you're able to.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 20/09/2019 20:21

surely you will just go from station to tube to venue and back again?

I was in the poll tax riots. I saw the burning effigy of Thatcher and all I did was walk round the corner on the way back from an IT exhibition...on the way back from Earl's Court. So i just turned another corner, walked into Charing X and caught the train home.

These days riots and demos are all organised and the police are on it.
