I’ve just made myself some salt and pepper on toast. First discovered as a poor student when literally all I had in the house was value white sliced bread, cheap margarine and salt and pepper. It’s very nice! I’m now 41 and I make it with nice bread and butter, Maldon salt and freshly ground pepper though Smile

Sometimes I like to eat a bit of stock cube too

Anyone else?

I eat the tiny bits of egg shell that you get when you peel the top off a boiled egg. Best if the white is attached. But I’ll eat it anyway.

I quite often eat avocado for breakfast. I don’t think that is so strange though.

Digestive biscuits with a thick layer of butter on top. When I was a kid we didn’t have much money so no fancy or expensive snacks, digestives were cheap so we always had them in. A layer of butter made them extra tasty.

I’m off to add digestives to the shopping list now Grin

I had spaghetti with ketchup and cheese for lunch the other day. So cheap and nasty but delicious. Compared to a lot of these, that seems totally normal!

ElfAndSafetyBored · 18/09/2019 16:42

Dry weetabix, topped with margarine and dipped in sugar.

SilverySurfer · 18/09/2019 16:48

I thought raw potatoes were poisonous?

They are in the same plant family as deadly nightshade so it's not surprising, although I think you would need to eat a huge number to be poisoned.

RezCowgirl · 18/09/2019 17:27

Christmas cake with a slice of cheese ontop, plus some quince jelly if there's a jar lying around.
Chicken supernoodle sandwiches with cheese and sweet chilli sauce.
Porridge made with condensed milk with some grated carrot and cinnamon - tastes a bit like a carrot cake.

ThePolishWombat · 18/09/2019 17:30

RezCowgirl isn’t Christmas cake with cheese a northern thing?

haverhill · 18/09/2019 17:34

Banana and Marmite on toast. Seriously, it’s delicious.

Redyoyo · 18/09/2019 17:40

A tin of cold beans mixed with half a jar of pickled onions mixed together- fab

cwg1 · 18/09/2019 18:01

I'm not sure, but I think it may be a '60s thing, when that exotic commodity - tomato puree - became widely available.

Mix boiled, drained rice with tom puree to taste. Spread layer on plate and sprinkle with grated cheddar. Top with fish fingers. Nice splash of vinegar. Still enjoy it.

SleepyFlump · 18/09/2019 18:06

Raw egg yolk + dollop of butter + spoon of sugar + chocolate powder of choice How the fuck did you discover this combo?!

frozen peas fresh from the freezer. By the cup full!

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 18/09/2019 18:22

Dry weetabix, topped with margarine and dipped in sugar.

Crikey!

AufderAutobahn · 18/09/2019 18:27

Dry weetabix topped with a thick layer of butter.

iklboo · 18/09/2019 18:31

I can't eat chips & gravy unless it's drowned in vinegar and some salt.

I like dairylea and sliced pickled onion sandwiches on cheap white bread

Raw potatoes

Mushy peas cold from the tin.

MrsRufusdog789 · 18/09/2019 18:38

Blindfold ?

MrsRufusdog789 · 18/09/2019 18:42

@MediocreOmens
Fish head pizza sounds a bit like stargazy pie but with just fish heads Grin

BloodyDisgrace · 18/09/2019 18:43

Raw turnips. (peeled, of course)

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 18/09/2019 18:44

I put vinegar on scrambled egg on toast. DH and DC turn their noses up at that.

When I was a kid, back in the 60s and 70s, my DM and DGM would soak slices of cucumber and onion in vinegar for a few hours and then put it on bread and butter. Delicious 🤤

MrsRufusdog789 · 18/09/2019 18:44

@SapphireSeptember I've bought rose jam in either a Greek or Turkish Deli

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 18/09/2019 18:46

Oh, someone mentioned mushy peas. In the Midlands mining town I grew up in, there was a sea food stall on the market. You could buy cockles and mushy peas with mint sauce. Divine.

Oh dear, I fear you have me on a roll now!

MrsRufusdog789 · 18/09/2019 18:47

My niece and nephew used to tuck into a really huge bag of dried pasta when they were both under 5 . It used to worry me as obviously it swells in the tum . But they both survived !

RezCowgirl · 18/09/2019 18:47

@thepolishwombat it was my Welsh grandmother who first have it to me.

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 18/09/2019 18:49

Mashed potato sandwiches with peas and salad cream 😎

makingmammaries · 18/09/2019 18:52

Crushed garlic in mayonnaise as a dip for fish fingers.

Laska2Meryls · 18/09/2019 18:54

Dh away so ,Ive just had my favourite dinner... Broccoli ( a whole packet of tenderstem that is ) and prawns.
Cook the broccoli, fry the prawns with (lots of) garlic in butter, bung in bowl together add chili sauce, pesto and splash of soy sauce..
Heaven..

I often have just broccoli for dinner also when I am here on my own with chili and soy.. Love it!

and if that all sounds a bit too healthy... I also like a lump of strong cheddar spread with salad cream as a snack , and will eat gherkins by the jarful!

.....and then there's butter.. it has to be sliced thinly and frozen and then eaten on its own whilst still crispy Blush
