From back in Decemeber:

'This shouldn’t get lost in the avalanche of crazy. The wall we need is between DOJ and the White House. The foundation of our democracy- the rule of law- depends on it.' Sally Q. Yates.

WP

'The acting Director of National Intelligence threatened to resign over concerns that the White House might attempt to force him to stonewall Congress when he testifies Thursday about an explosive whistleblower complaint about the president, according to current and former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

The revelation reflects the extraordinary tensions between the White House and the nation’s highest-ranking intelligence official over a matter that has triggered impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

The officials said Joseph Maguire, who was thrust into the top intelligence post last month, warned the White House that he was not willing to withhold information from Congress, where he is scheduled to testify in open and closed hearings on Thursday.

Maguire denied that he had done so. In a statement, he said that “at no time have I considered resigning my position since assuming this role on Aug. 16, 2019. I have never quit anything in my life, and I am not going to start now. I am committed to leading the Intelligence Community to address the diverse and complex threats facing our nation.”'

An example of how Republicans and Trumpsters are reacting publicly to the Ukraine call transcript. ‘Deny’ seems to be the best option - since there was no outright “I’ll withhold this if you don’t do this for me,” that makes it okay for them. For me, the call was quite damning. Trump begins with the his usual refrains of ‘We do so much for your country, and you don’t really return it,’ before Zelensky mentions that actually he is about to buy some military hardware. Trump asks him for a favour - a few favours, including investigating Biden’s son. This is classical bullying behaviour - a bigger country using a more vulnerable one, and certainly impeachable in a POTUS.

THIS is why
@SpeakerPelosi
launched impeachment? REALLY?

-No quid pro quo
-No discussion of foreign aid

To top it off, President Trump was asking Ukraine to look into serious and troubling issues regarding foreign interference in American elections

Donald J. Trump - POTUS, billionaire, now possibly up for impeachment - decides this is the perfect time to raid his diehard supporters’ pockets for re-election funds.

Failing MSNBC won't stand for obfuscation.
They cut away from Trump's presser.

This confirms it. Trump is thick in more ways than one.

The Hill
@thehill
Pres. Trump: "The president [of Ukraine] himself just came out with a statement saying there was absolutely no pressure put on him, and there wasn't... Just so you understand, it is the single greatest witch hunt in American history, probably in history, but in American history."

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/09/2019 12:42

My theory, for what it is worth, is that the President of Ukraine had little or no idea what Trump was trying to say, because (like the rest of us) he found Trump's utterance opaque to the point of incomprehensible.

Hello, I've been lurking despairingly as usual (name-changed again, see my new handle), and admiring all your persistence. The combination of Boris and Trump has felled me utterly.
I am feeling very stupid, but I need that Time magazine cover explained to me, if someone would be so kind, please? It links to an article about impeachment, but I don't understand the background, nor what Trump is doing with his hands.
Thank you!

Hoooo · 26/09/2019 20:49

I'm assuming that it refers to him "painting himself into a corner"...?

lionheart · 26/09/2019 20:52

I think it's just that he's painted himself into a corner with his tiny hands. Smile

  • WH covered up Ukraine call
  • WH did same for calls w/other leaders
  • DNI believes call transcript is “in alignment with” complaint
  • DNI asked WH first about releasing complaint
  • Trump still doesn’t believe Russia hacked DNC
