to take my three year old into the women's loos?!

Just that really. Went out to a farm park yesterday on my own with my three year old son and the loos available were male, female and disabled. I wasn't about to use the disabled loo and in any case someone was using it, so I did what I always do and took DS into the ladies, at which point I got a filthy glance from another woman and she said "he should be using the men's".

I was so taken aback I didn't even reply but the more I think about it the more I think how ridiculous this was. I am entirely supportive of female-only spaces but we are talking about a three year old child (who by the way does not look older than he is). He genuinely doesn't even have any concept of sex yet, he calls everyone "she". He's not old enough to take himself into the men's on his own.

Surely I was not BU?!?!

YANBU, way too young to go to a public loo on his own. DS was about 7 when he was happy to do so.

formerbabe · 16/09/2019 14:03

Yanbu.

What a stupid woman she was. He's still a baby really. I'd be horrified if I saw a mum letting her 3 year old into the gents by himself.

You did nothing wrong.

Crunchymum · 16/09/2019 14:03

I took my almost 7yo into the women's toilets with me at the weekend.

He did actually use the men's but couldn't reach the taps / hand soap so I took him in to wash his hands. It was an empty toilet but I'd have done the same if it was full.

Crunchymum · 16/09/2019 14:04

empty toilet - 6 cubicles but only us in there a the time1

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/09/2019 14:04

Presuming you are female, then of course YANBU. Children go with parents to whatever sex the parents are toilets and changing rooms. 3yos can't take themselves to toilets.

Qcng · 16/09/2019 14:05

I can't believe this really happened!

MrsBungle · 16/09/2019 14:05

Of course yanbu! I’ve taken my ds in to the women’s for the past 6 years and no one has ever even raised an eye brow to me!

ImNotYourGranny · 16/09/2019 14:06

The woman's bonkers. I always take my 6 year old son in with me. There's no way I'd send him into the men's on his own.

Camomila · 16/09/2019 14:06

Of course you weren't.

My 3 year old has recently learnt to get on and off the toilet by himself but he can't flush (handle too stiff) or reach the sink without a stool.

Mia1415 · 16/09/2019 14:07

YANBU! My DS is nearly 7 and still comes in the ladies with me and I can't see that changing any time soon.

I've never had a comment yet and if someone did dare say something I'd tell them exactly where to go!

Tartsamazeballs · 16/09/2019 14:07

Uh huh Hmm

TankGirl97 · 16/09/2019 14:08

Yanbu at all. Imagine sending a 3 year old into the men’s loos alone!
I still take my 6yo in the women’s with me. He only goes alone to the men’s loos in places we know and feel safe.

Baguetteaboutit · 16/09/2019 14:08

Unbelievable.

Limensoda · 16/09/2019 14:09

I take my 7 year old grandson into the Ladies if he needs to go. I wouldn't let him go into the men's on his own yet.

Confusedasnormal · 16/09/2019 14:09

YADNBU aside from the risk of letting him out of my sight in public I dread to think that would actually happen if I let DS3 go to the loo completely unsupervised.

Woman was batshit!

dontpanicmrmainwaring · 16/09/2019 14:09

yanbu!

stupid woman!

Iknowacrackingowlsanctuary · 16/09/2019 14:09

What a ridiculous woman. What does she think a 3 year old child is was going to do to her??

Camomila · 16/09/2019 14:10

Can I ask, In children type places are you meant to go with little boys to the boys toilet or the girls?

We were at a primary school summer fair and I had this quandry recently.

Booboostwo · 16/09/2019 14:10

She's completely unreasonable! He's 3 FFS! Even a 7yo might struggle on his own, e.g. have trouble locking and unlocking the door.

Expressedways · 16/09/2019 14:12

Some 3YOs are still in nappies ffs, I’m struggling to believe this actually happened, not because OP seems off but because it’s so obvious a toddler can’t be left alone, especially not to use a public loo.

BertrandRussell · 16/09/2019 14:13

It depends. Are you a man or a woman?

LulaLandry · 16/09/2019 14:14

Yes I'm female!

Tartsamazeballs not sure what the face is for, if you think I'm a troll by all means report me.

Durgasarrow · 16/09/2019 14:14

Little boys belong with their mothers

BigChocFrenzy · 16/09/2019 14:14

If you are a woman, that is absurd:

Up to about aged 8, a child can stay with their parent - who should take them into the loo for the parent's sex

LulaLandry · 16/09/2019 14:14

Sorry I'm obviously a woman, I thought that would have been clear!
