It’s a dream of mine. I can afford it. I do everything for my family but it seems it’s not enough !

YANBU. In fact now you’ve mentioned it I want to do it too

Gargamel1975 · 13/09/2019 22:07

I’m in the middle of booking it between the 26/12 and 30/12 ! Fucking hell I do everything for them and I get absolutely nothing so I want to fuck off to New York !

Why wouldn’t you? I’ve gone just after NY for the last couple of years, and apart from the risk of dangerously stormy weather which can close airports (which you could get at any point in winter, obviously), it’s been great.

Treaclebee · 13/09/2019 22:09

YANBU go for it. NYC is such a fab place to visit.

Gargamel1975 · 13/09/2019 22:10

@Frangible - did you do it on your own ??

I’ve done New York on my home, had a great time! Might be loads of sales on! Bring warm clothing, coat gloves & hat it was bitterly cold.

TokyoSushi · 13/09/2019 22:24

I think it might depend a bit on your family, adult partner, adult children etc, off you go!

Single parent to 3 under fives, maybe not just yet!

Hope you get to go OP!

Proseccoinamug · 13/09/2019 22:26

I don’t think it’s ok if you have small children at Christmas. Just thinking about how special that time is and how heartbroken my dc would be if I buggered off.
But if your family are all adults, go!!

surlycurly · 13/09/2019 22:31

It's ok, it really is. I've been away tonnes of times myself, including between Christmas and new year last year. I just wish I could afford NYC! Go. Enjoy a bit of peace! You'll be a better parent in the long run for the break (I'm away for 5 days myself in Oct. can't wait)

Gargamel1975 · 13/09/2019 22:33

Children are teenagers - I would never have even think about it if they were little ! They don’t to spend any time with me. I’m old news to them, irrelevant just good to fill the cupboard and the fridge ! Also they hate my guts !

I’m thinking of going to Costa Rica on Boxing Day myself. Ds will be in Aus with his dad.

Go for it!

Gargamel1975 · 13/09/2019 22:36

I went to New York with them in May and they hated it :(

PinkiOcelot · 13/09/2019 22:37

Ahhhh I’m sure they don’t hate you’re guts, though if they’re anything like my 2, they do a good impression!!
Go for it.

OllyBJolly · 13/09/2019 22:37

It will be bloody cold!

BeneathTheMist · 13/09/2019 22:37

I'd definitely go on my own. Let us know which hotel you choose, as I will be doing it at some point, oh and the airline too. Grin

Frangible · 13/09/2019 22:41

Once alone, the next year with a friend@Gargamel1975. But I go away by myself as often as I can — I love it.

Redtartanshoes · 13/09/2019 22:46

Why did they hate it?

AgeLikeWine · 13/09/2019 22:46

I went to NYC on my own the first time I visited. It was fantastic seeing everything for real that I had only ever seen on TV.

Just do it, OP, why wouldn’t you?

mindutopia · 13/09/2019 22:52

That’s sounds great. Why not? I go on holiday every year by myself and mine are still little. It’s wonderful.

I used to live in NYC for many years and it’s a fun place. I wouldn’t say Xmas to New Years in the best time to go (it’s really busy and expensive and summer is just better or anytime but around the holidays), but fine if that’s the only time you have.

itwaseverthus · 13/09/2019 22:56

Hell yeah, go! Push the boat out and stay at the Langham on 5th Ave if you can afford to, it was so lovely. I intend to go back there alone myself in a few months. Travel is good for the soul and going alone is more like travel than tourism.

Canuckduck · 14/09/2019 04:10

Go, go,go!!! You’ll love it, it will be cold and Christmasey and fab! They’ll ignore you anyways during the school holiday so why not!

Longdistance · 14/09/2019 04:16

Ungrateful sods!
Go book it and have a fabulous time. NY is a great place to go on your own. I’ve been lucky enough to go several times. I’ve been over Christmas and NY. Easter as well. It’s got a great buzz about it.
If you go on your own it’ll be easier to take everything in and have those moments.

LiveInAHidingPlace · 14/09/2019 04:29

I love travelling and being by myself.

Longdistance · 14/09/2019 04:43

Me too LiveInAHidingPlace I spent a lot of my 20’s travelling alone without a soul being a pita.

Stillfunny · 14/09/2019 04:51

Used to live there.Love it. Just recently went there for six weeks by myself. DCs are in 20s. Anyone could join in at any stage.Brother came for week.
Exciting time to visit, Xmas buzz. But cold, cold, cold!.
