It’s a dream of mine. I can afford it. I do everything for my family but it seems it’s not enough !

Go,book it and do it! NYC is amazing that time of year-super cold, so pack thermals. You will still see all the christmas decorations, trees and lights-try and stay until the 1st so you see the ball drop.
Honestly going by yourself is truly freeing and suddenly you only have to worry about where you want to go.
Have a brilliant time!!!

Do it!! Selfish holidays (as we call them in our house) are essential for mental health and wellbeing.

I try to get away by myself once a year for a few days just to reset, and for the rest of the household to appreciate everything that I do for them.

Sound like an unhappy family
And you’re doing this as a way of sticking up middle finger to your children

Spend the money on family counselling!

KatherineJaneway · 14/09/2019 05:54

I've visited New York on my own, was amazing. I'd do it. Reminds them not to take you for granted and that you are a person, not just 'mum'.

lovemenorca · 14/09/2019 05:58

Don’t be daft. They are teenagers and this is a four day break.

From what the OP has alluded to, they will love having the freedom and place to themselves!

amylou8 · 14/09/2019 06:01

Absolutely go! I'm off to Jordan next week leaving my 17 and 19 year olds to fend for themselves for 9 days 😁 I will stock the fridge with processed food and run 😂

YouJustDoYou · 14/09/2019 06:02

I've done it, to a different city. Not quite for christmas as kids still too young, but it was bloody wonderful.

Allice · 14/09/2019 06:05

Now I want to go too!
I've been to NYC alone, was fine and I'd do it again with no issue at all.
Have a great time!

Book a ticket for the Radio City Christmas show. It will knock your socks off!

SofiaAmes · 14/09/2019 06:21

Go!!! And you will have fun. New Yorkers (and Americans in general) are friendly to strangers (contrary to popular belief).

rosydreams · 14/09/2019 06:23

i have done it ,it felt so nice to have some time to myself .I stayed in a airbnb it was cheap and booked flight out on friday the 13th so it was cheap. To explore new york by myself was lovely.Interesting food to try and places to see.I felt so much better after having some me time

dimsum123 · 14/09/2019 06:38

Go go go! I'm doing the same thing for the first time this year, mine are teenagers too and they really couldn't give 2 hoots whether I'm around or not. Not in a horrible way, but their friends are their entire world these days. I am simply a free Uber, fridge and cupboard stocker, and bank.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 14/09/2019 06:41

NY is the city Ive dreamed of going. Looks like now I'll never get there, (dh has no desire to go, I'm getting too old, lack of money) If I had a chance id go tomorrow. Do it.

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 14/09/2019 06:49

Do it OP. I went with DH over the same time period a couple of years ago and I loved it. I really want to go on my own one day.

VanillaSugarr · 14/09/2019 06:50

@OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow. You are not too old. A relative’s MIL is taking her first Spitfire flight today - for her 94th birthday. Plan it and do it!

BillywilliamV · 14/09/2019 06:51

Sounds like a dream, I used to love travelling on my own. Tell them it’s your Christmas present and go for it

rosydreams · 14/09/2019 06:53

leafyskyline · 14/09/2019 07:06

@rosydreams Now I want cake for breakfast Grin

Op, it's a great city and I've travelled there alone several times. Have fun!

historysock · 14/09/2019 07:16

I had the BEST time in New York on my own for a few days. The Frined I was due to meet there was sick and couldn't make it so I just went anyway.
I wanted to recreate it for my big Birthday this December but the dd's and dp got wind of it and begged to come so now we are all going. I know it will still be good and they will love it but I secretly really wanted to go on my own.
Do it! It will great!

Might not be so nice if she doesn't do a shop and fill the cupboards before she leaves!

milliefiori · 14/09/2019 07:21

Go!

Boobiliboobiliboo · 14/09/2019 07:24

I don’t think it’s ok if you have small children at Christmas. Just thinking about how special that time is and how heartbroken my dc would be if I buggered off.

Not everybody makes a big deal out of Xmas. Hmm

TheBigBallOfOil · 14/09/2019 07:24

Have a super time!

worldsworststepfordwife · 14/09/2019 07:35

We’ve spent the last 2 Xmas there as a family with two teenagers, go for it you’ll love it though I’m surprised your teenagers aren’t desperate to tag along. The only surprise to me now is we’re having Xmas at home this year and I’m pissed off now, two years break from all that Xmas consists of has allowed me to see how fucking ridiculous Xmas is when you have no 0-10 age kids in the house who believe, I’ll be trying to get away over the Xmas period for the foreseeable once this ones over

Dr1ftw00d · 14/09/2019 07:36

How did your teens hate NY?Shock Mine went this summer and loved it. We all did. I’ll be returning.Love the idea of a lone trip. Teens can be bloody tough,go.

How scary are the flights in winter?😬
