Erm anyone had any “work done” to their face?

Curious. I developed some bone loss and have jowls... thinking of having a lower facelift and my crinkly eyelids having something down to them. I’m also a keen runner that has knackered my face.

Please no personal opinions on facelifts just asking if anyone has had any tweaks.

Currently I’m all natural and haggard.

Only a little bit of face work done: small conservatory on my chin and some Velux windows above both ears - it really opens up the space I find.

Today I went to a nerve consultant who did tests and told me I have only 30% of movement in my right eyebrow/forehead and will see no improvement thanks to my brow lift. I will probably have to have Botox for the rest of my life in the other side of my forehead to have symmetry when I raise my eyebrows.

I was unlucky with a top London surgeon but there are so many non invasive procedures now available. Please think very carefully about the risks.

Someone I used to work with had a lower facelift between jobs. I met up with her six months later and noticed a difference so told her how well she looked and how the change of job must be suiting her. She told me the truth and said she was pleased with the result but she had constant tingling which she was told would disappear after 12 months. I meet up with her once or twice a year. She told me when I saw her at 17 months the tingling had stopped but I’ve not noticed the work since so I’m not sure whether I’d go through that for such limited impact.

Botox every 3 months, bloody love it! Having no 11’s and a live free forehead!

Would love to have my jowls tightened but too scared of the risks. Botox in my 11s twelve years ago and still, when I raise my eyebrows putting on mascara, my forehead aches.

Dowser · 17/09/2019 04:11

Sorry to hear that around. I can easily afford to have some work done but my fear around pain / things going wrong far outweighs financial considerations and as much as I’d love a fresher look I really don’t have the right mind set to undertake it.

In fact those of you that have I think are very brave.

I’m 67 . I’ve always looked youthful for my age but there’s no getting away from it..I am looking older.
I shall just accept it and grow old as gracefully as possible.
Then I look in the mirror and think..ooh if I could just have this done ...

Dita73 · 17/09/2019 04:21

Had two nose jobs and I’m glad I did but the thing is no amount of plastic surgery will make you look younger,it just makes you look different

Prickly pear oil is fantastic according ti Nigella Lawson. Tempted to get my smile lines botoxed or lip lines but not desperate yet.

Changednamealready · 17/09/2019 07:24

Has anyone had ultherapy or profhilo? I've heard mixed reviews about both.

I think surgery route will be the permanent way to go but doing something between then and now...

Yup. Because she's definitely had no medical procedures, has she?
Just like she lost loads of weight after having her bunions operated on as it stopped her going to the fridge (in her silky dressing gown and a faceful of makeup) and picking at food.

Sort out those naughty midnight nibbles and the dress size will plummet *.

aroundtheworldandback what would you recommend that’s non invasive? I’m nearly 50 and my forehead is starting to bother me so was thinking of something like Botox but not sure that’s classed as non invasive?! Or one of those course of CACI or does no one do that anymore?!!

RedButBlueButBlack · 18/09/2019 10:28

I had a non surgical nose job (fillers) if it’d make you happier go for it x

Gottobefree · 18/09/2019 10:31

I've had filler, love it and can be done very naturally and never noticed. This might help replace volume for your bone loss and if you want it to look a bit plumper in places.

Filler in nose, lips, cheeks and tear troughs x

stopgap · 18/09/2019 11:36

@Changednamealready, I’ve had friends who’ve done ultherapy and it’s a mixed bag. Some say it really helped to tighten the jawline, and a couple sweat it caused fat loss in the face.

I’ve heard amazing things about Face Tite.

Sorry for typos and atrocious grammar—typing in the dark.

Aroundtheworldandback · 18/09/2019 22:22

Janus if it’s just your forehead I would probably try a small amount of well placed Botox. There are new treatments now none of which I have tried so can’t advise on those, although on holiday I did have a facial with LED light therapy which made a visible difference as people commented.

justjuggling · 18/09/2019 22:33

I’ve had Botox. Quite subtle, just look a little less exhausted I think!

PennyNotSoWise · 18/09/2019 22:43

@roisinagusniamh Honestly, I don't think you can get rid of jowls naturally, unfortunately. You could try face exercises, but results wouldn't be drastic, if you even got results at all.

Once they start forming, I believe that's it. The structure of your face is changing underneath and that's nigh on impossible to reverse without some form of procedure.

hairyharrison · 18/09/2019 22:48

I have the same bone loss as you OP. Also paid for too many late nights in my youth.

I had a thread lift and the results were amazing. Lasted two years and I'm about to go for another.

TheDragonFromDreams · 18/09/2019 22:54

Is it possible to avoid jowls in the first place, or are they inevitable and one of those things if you’re predisposed in some way?

DontCallMeShitley · 18/09/2019 23:06

@Aroundtheworldandback

I also had a Harley St renowned surgeon last year giving me what he called a “freshen up”. I’m wondering if it was the same surgeon DontCallmeShitley and I was just unlucky. He damaged TWO facial nerves and I’m still suffering 9 months down the line. Not one follow up email to see if I’m ok, I have to do all the chasing. I was warned of “minuscule risks”...

It won't be the same one, mine retired a while back. Sorry to hear you had a problem, I have had various procedures in the past that were not as good as I hoped but never had any damage. I am a bit out of touch with who is good but I have heard of some that are not as good as they should be. Unfortunately it seems that you had one of those.

PennyNotSoWise · 18/09/2019 23:23

To be honest, some people can get them really young, late twenties, early thirties purely down to genetics. That's really shitty luck and unavoidable.

The best way to prevent them if you have lucky genes would be never smoking, sun protection at ALL times, a good diet and not fluctuating drastically in weight. Boriiiing Grin

Singinginshower · 18/09/2019 23:28

hairyharrison

What does a thread lift involve?

BloodyDisgrace · 19/09/2019 10:38

I'm not a runner and my jaw line doesn't bother me, but I had Botox in the frown line between the eyes. I don't regret it, I can see a positive difference and it wasn't a waste of money at all. Shame it doesn't last longer though. But I will be doing that regularly.

What I'm wandering about is the fix for naso-labial folds. The popular method now is injection in the cheeks rather than in the lines. But I don't want to end up with a puffed-up, pillow like hamster face. So I've been reticent about it just like you about the jaw line treatment.
