Erm anyone had any “work done” to their face?

Curious. I developed some bone loss and have jowls... thinking of having a lower facelift and my crinkly eyelids having something down to them. I’m also a keen runner that has knackered my face.

Please no personal opinions on facelifts just asking if anyone has had any tweaks.

Currently I’m all natural and haggard.

Rufus Your pics are incredible! What a difference!

I hate the assumption that anyone that has anything done is trying to look 16 or something. If people have jowls and don't like them, I see nothing wrong in doing something about it. It's not always about looking young, it's just about not wanting jowls or whatever the concern is. You can see plenty of people without jowls that still look their age.

I was just in the states with my incredibly fresh and healthy looking cousin and she casually informed me that she's had a little bit of botox, lot of retinol and is having tear trough fillers. She looks amazing and I would never have guessed she's had anything done.

Her mum who is not at all glamorous but just looks nice has had a lower half face lift.

What really got me was the lack of moral agonising and judginess of it! They were so matter--of-fact about it, of course they weighed up the medical risks which is extremely important, but they felt no need to hide it or apologise for themselves at all. It was refreshing and I respected it.

Any woman you see in media over 40 who has a lovely tight jawline has probably had a little tweak.

I want to know who Christine Brinkley's surgeon is. She looks absolutely stunning at 65!

I think that now...didn’t before

Gothamgirl1970 · 14/09/2019 18:21

I have had 2 nose jobs (first for a medical reason) the second for cosmetic reasons.

I also had the Fraxel laser on my turkey gobble. I thought of a lower face lift but thought to try the non invasive face treatment first.

I am pleased with my nose but man the surgery and recovery (was gross) and hurt like hell.

Carshmar · 14/09/2019 18:23

I am so cheered by the blepharoplasty post above, my mum had to have it done 25 years ago, but then it was a proper op and she sort of had to wait until it was 'bad enough'. Now I'm thinking I might just go for it next summer since I have the lids on lashes thing already. Just being able to have a local sounds ideal (if slightly freaky and uncomfortable!)

This is also something that is done on NHS for very severe cases and so its weird to act like there's some moral line where it's acceptable to get it done.

I would love to have abdominoplasty to repair my very separated stomach muscles. But that's a completely different consideration as very serious surgery with GA and big recovery time, and I have to weigh it up is it worth it. Probably not. I really wish there was an easier way.

Changednamealready · 14/09/2019 18:28

I’m just catching up on posts so sorry for not commenting specifically but I am convinced lots and lots of actresses have had something done that or they all have amazing genetics. Even the fresher faced ones they all have right jaw lines...

Carshmar · 14/09/2019 18:28

rufus I also know some women who work very closely with lovely 'fresh' north-of-forty celebs. Lo and behold the women themselves look very young and 'fresh' but completely natural, wear very little makeup etc as no need to. Despite them having had VERY misspent youths in said media industry!

I don't judge them at all I just wish I could ask what they've done and get the lowdown, but I think that's not really acceptable to do here! Which is why I loved my cousin being so frank and unembarrassed.

From my vague experience in reading about these things I'd estimate baby botox, a peel and perhaps some fraxel and profilho type things. There's a LOT available that seems to be not producing the frozen haddock or wind tunnel results.

Tight not right!

Yes id agree wth carshmar

Its like the whole weight loss thing where all they have done is ‘run round after the toddler’

Some women do bounce back...but its weird that it’s virtually every film and tv star ever 😀

LaMarschallin · 14/09/2019 18:52

Goodness yes! Their toddlers must have really long legs, great balance and go like the clappers.
I could grab mine after one or two strides and, if I missed them, they'd usually fall over.

Explains a lot.

Carshmar · 14/09/2019 18:55

Someone I know who looked after a very slender celeb told me she ate loads and just ran around lots after the kids shortly before she died of a heroin addiction. Definitely don’t believe the hype.

Ilovemypantry · 14/09/2019 18:58

I’d say go for it OP as long as you do your research beforehand.
Just don’t go for the trout pout look that seems to be all the rage these days, I’ve seen so many women recently that have obviously had this done and really shouldn’t have had!

Changednamealready · 14/09/2019 19:28

lol trout pout I’m def not going for that look. I just want to not sigh when I look at myself and think I’m starting to look like a hound dog. Also people always say I look tired - I usually am to be fair but it’s annoying these days when I make an effort and still look rough as old boots despite the vegetables, exercise, sleep no booze.... stressful job though..:

Something to add, for those who have had something done (I’m thinking of correcting droopy eyes and jowls) did you look very different afterwards? I just want to tighten up and get rid of the extra bits, there are some celebs can think of one whose eyes looked so different afterwards.

I woke up today and pulled my eyes up and my husband burst out laughing and said what the **ll are you doing. I did think it helped my Vision.....

Still googling before and after!
Rufus may you pm me who you consult was?

@Changednamealready

Dontcall me - did people recognise you after surgery? Can I ask how old you were when you had it done? Are you happy with the result?

Sorry, only just seen this. I just looked like me, but firmer and less tired. I didn't want to look like Felicity Kendall with her overstretched lower face. It is important to check before you even make an appointment for the first consultation as to whether you will get a wind tunnel face or a natural one.

I had it done fairly young compared to many, at the time it was usually done around 50 (when everything had gone really baggy and droopy) but I didn't want to wait that long. My eyes were droopy, the result of a grandmother with odd drooping eyes and a father with hooded lids and I was tired of looking tired so had those done a few years before.

DontCallMeShitley · 15/09/2019 11:54

@honeylulu

How do people find out where to go, which clinics/practiotoners are any good, and which ones do the "natural look" etc? Especially if you haven't got any word of mouth recommendations

I would look at private hospitals online, they have a list of surgeons, find the ones that do what you want, then find their website. Check their registration details and qualifications. Ask all the questions you can think of before making any commitment, and remember that the best ones are usually busy and there would be a wait, maybe only a few weeks, but if someone is free the next day be wary.

bombomboobah · 15/09/2019 12:09

Thanks to those who have shared their experiences on this thread it can be difficult because many people are judgemental about this sort of thing!
I am probably in the market for some sort of facelift before I get to 60, I have concerns about general anaesthesia and wonder if it would be possible to get a good result with a procedure done under Twilight anaesthesia?

Daffodildainty · 16/09/2019 09:54

I’m 55 and have had Botox and sculptra filler ( it stimulates your own collagen). The combo took away my nose marionette lines and forehead 11s. I also have regular Hydradermie facials that tighter the jowls. All looks v natural and just a better version of myself .

outherealone · 16/09/2019 10:11

To the people who have fillers:
I am seriously considering having the lines between my brows done, what’s average cost and how long does it last?
Also puffy upper eyelids. I hate ageing! What can be done and again, how much?

XXcstatic · 16/09/2019 10:28

I have concerns about general anaesthesia and wonder if it would be possible to get a good result with a procedure done under Twilight anaesthesia?

Twilight anaesthesia isn't safer; a GA is much more controlled. A GA on a healthy adult is incredibly safe. Anyone contemplating surgery should be much more concerned about infection and antibiotic resistance. I don't want to put anyone off - I think it's perfectly reasonable to take a calculated risk and have surgery. But it's important to be realistic about the risks.

roisinagusniamh · 16/09/2019 10:32

Has anyone any suggestions on how to get rid of jowls naturally?

Marlboroandmalbec34 · 16/09/2019 11:14

I have a massive frown line. Just want that filling in really but every where I have seen botox you have to have 3 areas. Any suggestions. Is botox the way to go?

IndieTara · 16/09/2019 13:27

@FamilyOhNo I rebooked to have HIFU in2 weeks time but now really worried as everybody says don't do it

Dontsayyouloveme · 16/09/2019 16:31

You can have your 11’s lined filled but it’s not ideal. A lot of good practitioners won’t do it, you’ll just end up just with little lumps of filler instead. I go down the Botox route, just to stop them getting worse.
