DH thinks I’m a bit mad: but I stockpile most winters in case we have an awful
Winter. All of the food gets used though eventually.

I’ve stockpiled loo roll, kitchen roll, toothpaste, soap and washing powder.

A freezer full of meals (Mac cheese, bolognaise, various stews, soups and curries, apple crumble (we have apples from our apple trees needing used), 10kg pasta and rice, flour, tins of tomatoes, beans/lentils/chickpeas, tinned fruit and veg. Oh and some UHT milk

Am I missing anything? Are you stockpiling?

OP posts:

@lostelephant , top of wardrobe, under bed, behind bath panel. Seriously.

Socksontheradiator · 12/09/2019 17:15

I think people who don't want to buy tinned food because they don't usually eat it are missing the point. If fresh food is not available, you'll have to eat something.
OP, my larder and freezer are full, and if necessary I could feed my family for 3 months or so.
We have meat, soup, stews and veg in freezer. Pasta and rice, tinned soup, veg, meat and beans, flour etc, and long life fruit juice in larder. Plus spices, herbs, salad cream, ketchup and olive oil. The usual stuff just a bit more of it.
Bit extra toothpaste, soap, shampoo etc and otc meds (painkillers, antacids, antihistamines, thrush cream) and sanpro.
Plenty of pet food.

simonisnotme · 12/09/2019 17:18

oh shiiit is it really going to be bad will we not get toothpaste or soap again Biscuit

StrictlyComeMarie · 12/09/2019 17:26

It’s you lot who are going to make the prices go up

Socksontheradiator · 12/09/2019 17:30

Can you explain exactly why my already full larder will make prices go up, please, @StrictlyComeMarie?

bellinisurge · 12/09/2019 17:31

How does stuff I bought a few months ago cause supply problems next month @StrictlyComeMarie ? Genuinely confused by that idea.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 12/09/2019 17:41

I'm stockpiling tinfoil, one hats worth only lasts about 3 hours, as it's resistance wears down over time, so you have to keep making new ones.

I hope you don't have metal fillings Biker47 as that's going to make eating those hats less palatable.

Tableclothing · 12/09/2019 17:46

will we not get toothpaste or soap again

That is not what I said.

DoctorAllcome · 12/09/2019 17:58

Don’t worry, the US will send food aid packages. 😜

Nat6999 · 12/09/2019 17:59

Nothing much, just making sure the car is full of petrol, anything in the cupboards & freezer is replaced when used, some long life milk & ordinary milk in the freezer as well as some bread, just what I do when approaching winter every year.

ChocChocButtons · 12/09/2019 18:07

I might just build an air raid shelter to hide all my Cadbury’s in.

IlGattopardo · 12/09/2019 18:08

DH came home with a bag full of horrible tinned chilli/curry etc the other day. It'll take a lot more than Brexit to get me to eat any of it.

ChocChocButtons · 12/09/2019 18:08

Ooh and Nespresso!

ChocChocButtons · 12/09/2019 18:09

I’ll break into one of the basement flats as well to live and hide more Cadbury’s. We’ll be feral by then so we can do that...

ChocChocButtons · 12/09/2019 18:11

A lot of Eu ppl in. M Y building can take over their flats when those ppl are kicked out and the civil unrest happens

Fieldofgreycorn · 12/09/2019 18:12

believe 80% of flour used in Ireland comes from the UK

Oh good at least we’ll have bread in the UK. We won’t need the rest of Europe then. Panem et circenses.

Wibblewobble99 · 12/09/2019 18:28

Dried Pasta (apparently that will be hard to get)
Chopped Toms
Tomato paste
Olive oil and sunflower oils
Toilet roll
Washing powder
May buy yeast but expect most of our bread UK made, it’s just where they get their raw ingredients from

Wibblewobble99 · 12/09/2019 18:29

i think we’re 100% milk sufficient but only 70% cheese and less yogurt.

Socksontheradiator · 12/09/2019 18:35

@Wibblewobble do you mean we as in UK? Where do you live?

Likethebattle · 12/09/2019 18:50

I have been buying bogof and 3for two offers etc. Have a lot of tins, jars and packets, Sanpro, loo roll and cheap painkillers as I can get bad headaches and period pain. I’m now putting away toiletries and will start putting a list together. It will all get used anyway but an extra few tins or a tube of toothpaste etc doesn’t break the bank. When we buy our usual six rolls of bog roll, one will be put aside.

Wibblewobble99 · 12/09/2019 20:23

@Socksontheradiator yes sorry UK. But I could very easily be wrong but I’m sure I heard it on the TV.

Mum2jenny · 12/09/2019 20:28

Nowt, can’t be arsed. Not convinced it’ll ever happen but I’m sure there will be food available if we are hungry.

simonisnotme · 12/09/2019 20:30

anybody would think we were on the verge of ww3

doadeer · 12/09/2019 20:33

I've bought extra calpol in for my baby but that's it. I can't think of anything I would run out of and not be able to access that I'd need urgently. I live a 5 min walk from 3 supermarkets and tons of cafes and restaurants.... I

DopeyDazy · 12/09/2019 20:35
