Just been listening to some of his stuff and he has dueted with so many different styles of people and is so versatile as both a singer and a song writer. If you can't see that you must be blind...

@SilverySurfer

I can go one better, I've never heard of him.

There's always one. Wink

Been living in a cage since 2009 have ya? Hmm

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/09/2019 20:58

9 people wrote Galway Girl. 9. People.

They should all be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

PinkiOcelot · 11/09/2019 21:02

Is it not down to opinion and taste?!!

Herefortheduration · 11/09/2019 21:02

He's sooooo boring.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 11/09/2019 21:02

I’ve never understood the hype about him and Adele (can’t stand the sound of her singing voice) turn the radio off as soon as either come on.

DoctorAllcome · 11/09/2019 21:03

I thought he was. I like do Shape of You, but then he’s lost a bunch of plagiarism law suits for that and most of his other popular songs.

I guess plagiarism is a type of talent, after all William Shakespeare plagarized his most popular plays and he’s still thought of as highly talented.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 11/09/2019 21:03

same with Jess Glynn. Hateful sound.

Ivyleagueunderthesea · 11/09/2019 21:04

You want to try living in Ipswich.
The town went mental for him a couple of weeks ago when he played live in the park for 4 nights.

I saw him when he played the local free music festival and when he was a busker.

Meh

Lifebi · 11/09/2019 21:05

I really hate William Shakespeare, he's so bland and so up himself. Romeo and Juliet, bleurgh!

Bloodycats · 11/09/2019 21:06

I don’t get the hype. As far as I can see he is talented at making the same song over and over again

BillywigSting · 11/09/2019 21:06

Agreed.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 11/09/2019 21:08

There's loads of people I dislike but will happily admit are talented.
Ed Sheeran, James Blunt, Jamie Oliver, every premier league footballer.

But there are some popular people I don't think are very talented. Robbie Williams, James Arthur, Chris Evans etc.

But my tastes aren't everyone's tastes so live and let live I say, except for fans of Will I Am, they can fuck off.. 😝

Fantababy · 11/09/2019 21:11

Can't stand him. Yes, he can write songs but they're not particularly good songs. Popular, yes, but cheesy lyrics and pretty simplistic. Galway girl is an affront to music. And Galway. And girls.

Plus I read once that he had installed anti homeless spikes outside his house which is shit.

Betty777 · 11/09/2019 21:12

He's not bad. There is soooooo much luck involved in getting famous for music (or acting) He's just one of the ones who made it. Right place right time, and right time in popular culture for what he has to offer.

You can say there are lots out there as talented as he is, but he's the one who got there. Luck mixed with a certain level of talent mixed with hard work mixed with being pleasant to work with.

For every one who makes it there are 99 with the same level of talent who did not (but there was always be lots of people who wouldn't have liked them either)

lilypips · 11/09/2019 21:14

Meh, he is pretty average tbh. Being able to sing live, while it is more than some do there days, it isn't a sign of anything other than an average artist. All the big performers have something very special. Ed Sheeran doesn't.

breaconoptimist · 11/09/2019 21:17

Don’t you find we live in an age of absolute hyperbole about musicians? I can’t get through a music documentary these days for all the mediocre acts being wheeled on to say the subject of the documentary is all kinds of superlatives.

I agree Sheeran writes cringey lyrics, he’s ok but he’s no Dylan.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 11/09/2019 21:21

I’m thoroughly allergic to his music. He may have done well for himself but I would be grateful never to hear any of his songs ever again.

hazeyjane · 11/09/2019 21:24

I've heard farts that are more memorable

Bouffalant · 11/09/2019 21:32

Bores the shit out of me.

He's like the new Coldplay.

Alice913 · 11/09/2019 21:41

He’s extremely talented. I love listening to music. For me one of the saddest things about dying will be not being able to listen to my favourite songs anymore.

SilverySurfer · 11/09/2019 21:50

Been living in a cage since 2009 have ya? hmm

I think you meant cave and you have to go way further back than 10 years for when I last listened to modern music - infinitely preferable than listening to garbage.

lilypips · 11/09/2019 22:36

Confused
eeksville · 11/09/2019 22:44

I agree that he is talented but also overrated, how hard is it to get to number 1 these days? He's very good at making songs that people relate too if that makes sense.

eeksville · 11/09/2019 22:53

Also there is not much competition these days so that helps.
