Playing outside my house

Defeated10 · 08/09/2019 15:35

I live in a nice quiet area and opposite my house is a green. I've lived here 2 and a half years and no one plays on the green as every one has their own gardens. Next to the green is parking and there is a sign that says for residents only. This includes me as I don't have a drive and it includes the people living on the semi circle behind the green.
I've just heard a load of shouting and look outside. About 10 grown men are running around outside with children. Bubbles are everywhere and they are playing games. Right beside the cars too. Also because they must be having some kind of gathering I can't park my car in the residents spot. I've had to park outside my house. I don't like doing this as last time I had to my car got hit!!
So 2 AIBU really. AIBU to be annoyed I can't park In my designated spot for me and AIBU to be annoyed that they are all charging about outside my house when they have a back garden to play in!!

rainbowunicorn makes a good point. You must already have been inside your house, how did that stop you parking? Had your self driving car nipped to the shops for you?

Village greens are for playing on YABU.

kaytee87 · 08/09/2019 16:11

Oh my lord now they're playing croquet??!! What has the world come to?

Isitnearlyweekend · 08/09/2019 16:16

Are they playing on the green? More fool you for buying a house next to a green. It’s a massive no no and a juvenile nuisance magnet. You didn’t think that one through.

Bluntness100 · 08/09/2019 16:17

I am with you op. I can't believe the neck of some people. Imagine thinking it was ok to have visitors and play with the kids on the green opposite your house. And to make it even worse, the fuckers are playing bubble and croquet.

I suggest you go out there and explain to them a green is not for playing on, so they need to leave or you'll call the police.

Alternatively. Give your head a wobble, when they move move your car, and smile and hope they all have fun.

Your call.

Jubba · 08/09/2019 16:18

Love it. Only here

Stop!!!! Kids play with bubbles on green. AND A CROQUET SET!!!!!!!!

What is the world coming too. Kids playing outside. In the fresh air. And someone is moaning!!!

MrsLinManuelMiranda · 08/09/2019 16:18

I am not usually a fan of the new AIBU/AINBU voting buttons, but I really wish there was one here!

LolaSmiles · 08/09/2019 16:19

Bluntness100
You missed the part that if it gets to 4:30 then the OP should ring 101 and log it with the police just in case there's people still there at 6pm. It's positively killing her right to the quiet enjoyment of the street. Grin

2girlsandagap · 08/09/2019 16:20

Op you sound like an absolute treat. You’re not being unreasonable re the parking space but you chose to buy a house near a public amenity and have absolutely no say in how that amenity is used within legal limits. If a ball or child had damaged your car then fair enough but to complain so bitterly about what sounds like a one off family celebration is ridiculous. Close your curtains and mind your business.

Bookworm4 · 08/09/2019 16:24

Sounds like a birthday party, sounds like plenty of fun and there’s the wicked witch gurning about her fuckin parking space🙄
Pour a glass of wine, stick some music on and stop being a moaning faced cunt.

palahvah · 08/09/2019 16:26

I agree with OP that you didn't think through the implications of buying a house next to a village green. Bubble-based mayhem was inevitable.

Be grateful that your car isn't parked near to the offending croquet game.

Go and have a lie down and stop being such a fun sponge.

NerrSnerr · 08/09/2019 16:33

You complain that they are playing their reckless bubbles and danger croquet near the cars but your car is outside your house so it's fine. Next they'll be having a picnic out there. That'll really take the piss. Are you taking pictures to take up with your MP?

MrsMaiselsMuff · 08/09/2019 16:33

I'm loving the middle class-ness of it all. While most of us are concerned about the rise of gangs and drugs in our area, the OP has bubbles and croquet on the green!

TheOnlySnot · 08/09/2019 16:33

I don’t get it.

Surely if you were inside your house when you first heard them playing, would your car not have already been parked in your spot?

If the car wasn’t parked in your spot, then where was your car parked? Outside your house where you don’t like parking it?

I think it sounds like harmless fun and you should lighten up.

Or come and park in my spot (where kids have deliberately threw stones at my car and hit it with sticks) then your view on a few harmless bubbles will probably soon change.

TulipCat · 08/09/2019 16:37

You live opposite a green and are moaning that people are using it?

Nanny0gg · 08/09/2019 16:38

It's not just bubbles now I've just seen croquet and balls bring smacked around by the kids

Hahahaha, this can't be for real.

Why not? It's quite common on estates, even when the park is next door.

Most of the greens round here are supposed to not allow games, but the children come out and sadly not all care about other people's property.

Bookworm4 · 08/09/2019 16:39

@MrsMaiselsMuff
Agreed, the entitled worries, eh?

IKR? 😂

Chill out Duchess, I can’t see this nice weather lasting much longer. They are probably just taking advantage of an unexpected pleasant day in early September.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 08/09/2019 16:47

Well... it’s a good job you aren’t parked alongside the green then.

The sound of children playing is one of the best sounds in the world in my opinion. My “children” no longer play (apart from computer games) so I miss it in my garden but can hear some of my neighbours’ children so I can still enjoy it...

mumtooneyr · 08/09/2019 16:51

Your lucky it's family's playing with their children instead of having loads of teenagers blasting music drinking and smoking weed, that's what we get round here sometimes! Don't be miserable

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 08/09/2019 17:00

YABU if it’s a one off. Stop being a misery.

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 08/09/2019 17:03

Sorry, just read that they’re playing on a green. An actual green! Which is actually there exactly for this reason - to be enjoyed! At first I thought you said they were playing on the road. Sorry but your car isn’t so important that life isn’t allowed to go on around it! It sounds lovely that they’re enjoying the green and maybe you should go out there and join them as you clearly need some cheering up.

dollydaydream114 · 08/09/2019 17:08

You do realise that they are using the green for its intended purpose, don’t you?

A green isn’t just there for show. It is a public open space for people to gather on.

Get a grip. And then about another ten grips.

ItsWitchingTime · 08/09/2019 17:12

Maybe they forgot children should be seen and not heard! You should definitely go and remind them op and while you're at it don't forget to remind them of the rules of using their own garden.
No bbqs
No fire pits
No music
No loud talking
Children should definitely be quiet.

AudacityOfHope · 08/09/2019 17:13

Seriously, get a fucking grip of yourself. It's a family enjoying their Sunday.
