Playing outside my house

Defeated10 · 08/09/2019 15:35

I live in a nice quiet area and opposite my house is a green. I've lived here 2 and a half years and no one plays on the green as every one has their own gardens. Next to the green is parking and there is a sign that says for residents only. This includes me as I don't have a drive and it includes the people living on the semi circle behind the green.
I've just heard a load of shouting and look outside. About 10 grown men are running around outside with children. Bubbles are everywhere and they are playing games. Right beside the cars too. Also because they must be having some kind of gathering I can't park my car in the residents spot. I've had to park outside my house. I don't like doing this as last time I had to my car got hit!!
So 2 AIBU really. AIBU to be annoyed I can't park In my designated spot for me and AIBU to be annoyed that they are all charging about outside my house when they have a back garden to play in!!

Because a green is bigger than a garden?

pumkinspicetime · 08/09/2019 15:49

It is a real shame that cars are more important than children playing bubbles with their families on a green.
Dc need more time outside.

StrongTea · 08/09/2019 15:51

Sounds like it is a birthday or something, probably be over pretty soon.

LolaSmiles · 08/09/2019 15:51

On the playing outside and using bubbles etc then I think you need to stop being a grump. It's a public space. When I was a kid everyone used to play out and green areas were used. Just because nobody has so far doesn't make it unreasonable.

On the parking, if it's a named bay for each house then YANBU. You should be able to park in your allocated parking.
If it's a general residents parking area then you don't have a spot that's yours and I would guess the people parked there are either residents or visiting residents.

Defeated10 · 08/09/2019 15:51

It's not just bubbles now I've just seen croquet and balls bring smacked around by the kids

FedUpMum40 · 08/09/2019 15:52

If its a one off I really wouldn't mind, people park in my space that's attached to the side of my house occasionally, I just park opposite till they hav egone, life's too short

Defeated10 · 08/09/2019 15:52

Even if they're visiting residents they aren't residents so shouldn't park there

Isn’t that what green space is usually for? To use and enjoy? If it was late at night with loads of noise then fair enough but kids playing with bubbles and stuff on a Sunday afternoon isn’t something I could get worked up about, in fact I think it sounds lovely.
I get your frustration with the parking, but if it’s just general residents parking and not allocated spaces then I don’t think there’s a lot you can do?

littlepaddypaws · 08/09/2019 15:53

unless this is a regular thing with the parking, not sure what you could do about it. yabu about the green playing though, where i live people would be parking on the green as well !

Wolfiefan · 08/09/2019 15:54

But you’ve not parked your car there anyway so it’s not going to damage yours?
Maybe go out for a while if it’s bothering you this much?

Croquembou · 08/09/2019 15:54

It's not just bubbles now I've just seen croquet and balls bring smacked around by the kids

Hahahaha, this can't be for real.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 08/09/2019 15:55

Where do your visitors park?

We have allocated parking but we all give and take, and the occasional guest using a space just isn't a problem.

Do you know your neighbours? I'd be inclined to ask if I could join in!

OddBoots · 08/09/2019 15:55

Are there signs about parking and does it cover Sundays? Around here resident parking is only between certain hours, presumably because it us a public road.

Defeated10 · 08/09/2019 15:55

This is for real

Pumpkinsalad · 08/09/2019 15:56

Yabu and miserable. There won't be many nice days left this year let them play

HappyHammy · 08/09/2019 15:56

If your car is parked outside your house it wont get damaged by the croquet balls, chill out, it might be someones birthday. Why dont you go and join in the fun.

spanglydangly · 08/09/2019 15:58

You need to log this with 101, or the police! Person parked in your not designated spot and blowing bubbles!

If you think you're right, why don't you go and ask them to move their cars? And stop playing.

InsertFunnyUsername · 08/09/2019 16:01

Go outside and confront these adults and children having fun, then come back and let us know how you get on Smile

God these threads make me realise how much I like my neighbours Smile

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 08/09/2019 16:01

Calm down Sheldon. Either go and ask them to move a car for you to park or wait until the offending bubblemakers have gone.

From the way you’ve described it, the hooligans are parked near the green where they’re trashing the place with danger bubbles and aggressive croquet so if you’re concerned about damage to your car isn’t it better it’s not there?

Unless there’s designated bays, yabu for a once off.

soundsystem · 08/09/2019 16:02

Ok, I'm not English so I may have misunderstood the purpose of a village green... but children playing seems like what it's designed for?

There are a lot of "play streets" happening in my area this weekend (we don't have a green!), designed for neighbours to get together and children to get outside and play. Could it be that sort of thing? Would explain why they're not in someone's garden?

Or is it an entire group of people from outside the area who have descended to blow bubbles near your cars?

rainbowunicorn · 08/09/2019 16:02

This doesn't make sense. You say you heard a load of noise and looked out to see people on the green. Now you are saying you can't park your car in the residents spot because of all these people who have taken the parking spaces. Presumably you were inside your house already with the car parks somewhere other than then residents parking before you looked out so what exactly is the problem?

Chocolatemouse84 · 08/09/2019 16:05

The using of the residents parking space would irritate me as it sounds like it does come with the house and is not for visitors.

The playing on the green, I'm amazed people haven't used it before! Surely thats what a patch of green space is for, people to enjoy.

stucknoue · 08/09/2019 16:06

The parking fair enough but the green is for playing on, stop being grumpy

YaySeptember · 08/09/2019 16:06

Dc need more time outside.

My thoughts exactly.

pumkinspicetime · 08/09/2019 16:09

I also briefly wondered if this was real but fear not OP I have a solution for you op.
Move to the Isle of Harris, traditionally dc aren't even allowed on the swings on Sunday.
