AIBU to be enraged by 'inspirational' quotes

I have just received a card with this gem on it ...
'When you look into a field of dandelions, you can either see a hundred weeds or a hundred wishes'

It's given me the rage as it (a) is so twee it makes me want to vomit (b) doesn't fucking make sense - why would dandelions be wishes? and (c) sometimes you need to see the weeds i.e. face reality

I know I am probably BU but seriously? Why do people feel the need to pass on this stuff ??

They are mostly wanky

And ex sent me one that said something along the lines of we all have the capacity to love and we all deserve happiness

It made me feel quite violent I told him to fuck off that was my deep meaningful message to him

DontForgetToDeadhead · 08/09/2019 07:25

I like dandelions.

Hate inspirational quotes though.

BarbariansMum · 08/09/2019 08:08

I kind of agree w you but not about the dandelions. They are an amazing flower. How anyone can look at a field of the and think "that's a problem " is beyond me - they need to give their head a wobble.

iklboo · 08/09/2019 10:14

If you're looking for sympathy it's in the dictionary between shit and syphillis .....

I bloody love this!

perplexedagain · 08/09/2019 17:24

And I am now going off to try Inspirobot - I think the reason I am so enraged about the poor dandelions is that I got subjected to this shit in my home. It is bad enough at work - some colleagues have taken to writing inspiring quotations of the week on the whiteboards near my desk ... am really hoping they run out of ideas very soon OR I can sabotage with a fake one of my own

Well, the only times the road has risen up to meet me it's been because I had fallen over.

So I think the saying should be 'When the Road Rises up to meet you, you are drunk, go home while you can still remember where you live.'

Then it would be apt.

PhilSwagielka · 08/09/2019 21:52

I hate them. Especially when it's ableist shit like 'the only disability is a bad attitude'.

RosesAndRaindrops · 08/09/2019 23:35

Can honestly say haven't heard that one. Agree it's crap!

Gingerkittykat · 09/09/2019 01:05

This one particularly pisses me off.

Broken crayons are shit, they might colour if you are lucky but they never have a nice point or colour nicely. I would go as far as to say that they are one of life's major disappointments.

The one I live by every day of my working life has served me well as I've done ok(ish).

If something is too difficult to do, it isn't worth doing."

Anotherdayanotherdolores · 09/09/2019 05:29

Or as My DH, who had a strong streak of passive aggressive resistance to some of his work colleagues used to say .. if a job’s not worth doing, it’s worth doing badly ... he practised this to the extent that the really pointless crap at work was often successfully deflected.

otterturk · 09/09/2019 05:48

@BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil missing the point a bit but an otter is a type of weasel. As is a stoat. Not to be mistaken for a beaver, which is a member of the rodent family.

PapayaCoconut · 09/09/2019 06:51

My dil used to have a plaque in her kitchen that said 'A smile is a sign of happiness'

That must have been a joke plaque, surely? And then your DIL bought it and thought "oooh that's so inspirational". 😅

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 09/09/2019 07:04

The only disability is a bad attitude Shock

Saw a better version of the “Dance like no one’s watching” one - “they’re not, they’re checking their phones”.

cardamoncoffee · 09/09/2019 11:20

I have a FB who makes up her own inspirational quotes, signs them and puts (feel free to share, but credit me) at the end. They are embarrassingly crap Grin

I see someone has already mentioned Inspirobot - my favourite one it generated for me was this one

Boswellisdead · 09/09/2019 14:01

I always wonder if people who have LIVE, LAUGH and LOVE signs in their living rooms have CHEW in the dining room, SNORE in the bedroom and SHIT in the bathroom.

Fave demotivational poster I've seen was "Leaders are like eagles. We don't have either of them here"

Boswellisdead · 09/09/2019 14:04

Oh and if I see one more FB post about how Marilyn Monroe was chubby and real women have curves and all that toxic femininity shit, I will snap and fart.

Willow2017 · 09/09/2019 14:06

I didn't know this as when I was young people used them to pretend tell the time not to make wishes

Wishes smishes! They tell the time round here too.
How else do folks tell the time when out in the countryside and they've forgotten their watch phone ?

Love all the 'alternative' quotes. The 'inspirational' ones are vomit inducing.
