AIBU to be enraged by 'inspirational' quotes

I have just received a card with this gem on it ...
'When you look into a field of dandelions, you can either see a hundred weeds or a hundred wishes'

It's given me the rage as it (a) is so twee it makes me want to vomit (b) doesn't fucking make sense - why would dandelions be wishes? and (c) sometimes you need to see the weeds i.e. face reality

I know I am probably BU but seriously? Why do people feel the need to pass on this stuff ??

I hate inspirational quotes... they make me all... punchy on the inside. Especially quotes by people no one has ever heard of, or those by 'spirit daughter' etc. Whose spirit? Whose daughter? Who cares?

Or 'guided by my spirit animal, I am a penguin/otter/unicorn'. Fuck off Mary, I know you've never even been to the zoo let alone be able to tell an otter from a weasel.

A lot of 'inspirational quotes' are attributed to people who didn't actually say them, which also annoys me.

Go into any dementia home now and these dumb quotes are everywhere. Not for the benefit of the residents who don't know what day it is.

The ones on my FB timeline about loving the single life, not needing a man to validate oneself etc ... are all posted by women who actually hate being single and would like nothing better than to get married to a bloke next week ...

I dated a dickhead years ago who would diligent look up inspirational quotes, and post one on his FB page every morning. He acquired a female harem via this, I dumped him left him to it. This was a man who never read a book and in fact couldnt read a newspaper. Too long, didn't hold his attention. Anyway he walks to the beat of his own drum, grew up in the school of hard knocks and went to the University of Life. The glass is half empty or half full, it depends how you choose to view it. God.. I can feel my toes curling involuntarily now recalling some of his 'inspirational gems'. He'd love that quote OP & would repost to sound clever
