I have just received a card with this gem on it ...
'When you look into a field of dandelions, you can either see a hundred weeds or a hundred wishes'

It's given me the rage as it (a) is so twee it makes me want to vomit (b) doesn't fucking make sense - why would dandelions be wishes? and (c) sometimes you need to see the weeds i.e. face reality

I know I am probably BU but seriously? Why do people feel the need to pass on this stuff ??

Life is not a contest but a journey in which we help each other to a better place.(unknown)
Have a Blessed day!!

This is sent at the end of every email from an American friend

noworklifebalance · 07/09/2019 14:49

If u just see the wankiness then you are in fact extremely pessimistic

err, no - you are someone that spot wankiness or insincerity. Of course, some maybe pessimistic as well.

GummyGoddess · 07/09/2019 14:50

But they're so inspiring!

@gummygoodness genuinely feeling uplifted at that one! Grin

"Whatever doesn't make me stronger will kill me."

"A burglar is just a houseguest [with a knife] that you haven't met yet."

"When the road rises up to meet you, you're probably about to disappear down a huge sinkhole."

This one speaks to me...

There is a Facebook group called “it’s never your most successful friends posting inspirational quotes”.

Which kinda sums it up for me.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/09/2019 15:00

"Before you strike out in anger at somebody who has done you wrong, first walk a mile in their shoes. Then, you'll be a mile away from them and they won't have any shoes."

Symptomless · 07/09/2019 15:02

I like practical quotes, in the case of the dandelions, should have said. You either see weed , wishes or salad. Dandelion leaves with some light vinaigrette, maybe?

DobbyLovesSocks · 07/09/2019 15:04

I personally can't stand the 'I love you to the moon and back' 🤢🤢

ClaudiaNaughton · 07/09/2019 15:05

Oh I love that Webuilt

TyneTeas · 07/09/2019 15:08

I like the Demotivators at despair.com/collections/demotivators

shiningstar2 · 07/09/2019 15:19

I really dislike ..if life gives you lemons make lemonade. What!!!

MarigoldGlove · 07/09/2019 15:25

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

I can't stop laughing at yours.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 07/09/2019 15:26

Very, VERY occasionally I've seen a quote where I've thought "Hmm, that's a good way of putting it".

Generally they are unbelievably twee and naff, aimed at the 'u ok hun??' brigade. See also: 'Live Love Laugh' words, all that prosecco/gin stuff and anything written on a cushion.

RosesAndRaindrops · 07/09/2019 15:29

YABU - each to their own. I find some of them helpful and make me feel better if feeling particularly anxious for example.
You don't like them, so what? Others clearly do. Just like I'd probably think some of the things you like are stupid. We're all different.

ShirleyPhallus · 07/09/2019 15:32

Ah OP, that probably came from a lovely friend. And just remember that friends are the family we choose for ourselves

TSSDNCOP · 07/09/2019 15:32

Roses fess up, have you got one as a giant Muriel in your kitchen Grin

perplexedagain · 07/09/2019 15:33

Hi for those asking it was just a thank you for a gift but friend has form for sending this type of thing. And yes, I see weeds ...

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 07/09/2019 15:33

I hate them too! Used to work in an office which was hung with “inspirational” posters etc. God it was a grim place to work.

TSSDNCOP · 07/09/2019 15:34

Thin end of the wedge perplexed, you’ll be getting pictures of white feathers and robins in your newsfeed next.

perplexedagain · 07/09/2019 15:35

Oh and thanks for the posters who have pointed out the traditional element of making wishes when blowing dandelion seeds. I didn't know this as when I was young people used them to pretend tell the time not to make wishes

No lol, but maybe I should get one just to piss people off or to make DH and the kids think I've finally totally lost the plot Grin

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 07/09/2019 15:38

Not sure if this counts as inspirational, but:
'Everyone brings joy into this office,
Some when they arrive, others when they leave.'

iklboo · 07/09/2019 15:40

I personally can't stand the 'I love you to the moon and back'

I know. It's not even 500,000 miles. Put some effort in at least. The Proclaimers will have walked that by now!
