To feel very poor after recent thread

Clappingforjoy · 06/09/2019 21:48

Recent thread on here where posters where revealing their income got me really fed up that I must be one of the lowest earners around and it made me feel like failure failure.
Is everybody well off on mumsnet or something where are these people that have to use food banks because all I ever see is people with brand new cars, going on holidays nice houses etc etc i find it mind boggling.

I’m not rich ! Don’t worry ! Mumsnet can be a bit braggy , there are plenty of normal people on here top!

SaveMeFromMrTumble · 06/09/2019 21:50

Im broke as hell, in debt and on a low income, your not alone!

RoseHippy1 · 06/09/2019 21:50

Top = too

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 06/09/2019 21:50

Did you post your income on that thread?

FFSDH · 06/09/2019 21:50

No ones going to go on those threads and say ‘I work 40 hours a week for 22k’. Everyone’s either a millionaire or they work 160 hours a week for a run of beans and they’re grateful for that. Just look at median salaries in this country.

ANiceLuxury · 06/09/2019 21:50

I think there is a mixture on here.

It all depends on what you do for a living and what opportunities you had as a youngster to enable you to be a high earner.

High earners have a tendency to waste money though

Sparklesocks · 06/09/2019 21:51

I know it’s difficult when you’re watching ever penny OP, frustrating and exhausting to be thinking about money all the time. But you are not the value of what you earn. Some of the biggest bellends on earth are high earners, doesn’t mean they are no longer

Also I would take those posts with a pinch of salt, you never know who is behind the screen and how much shit they’re talking. There some fabulous, genuine and lovely people on MN, but a lot of fantasist bullshitters too.

Clappingforjoy · 06/09/2019 21:52

I didn't post my income because it's so bad

flapjackfairy · 06/09/2019 21:52

I know it is mad isn't it ?
But no not everyone is well off and sometimes I take it all with a pinch of salt.

Clappingforjoy · 06/09/2019 21:54

I suffer from a complete lack of confidence and no motivation also on antidepressants so u have always stuck with my badly paid job.

And that’s my point! All the ones with nothing to worry about are happy posting whilst those who do will keep quiet.

Clappingforjoy · 06/09/2019 21:54

Yes I know rose

HerRoyalFattyness · 06/09/2019 21:55

I'm completely skint, in debt and currently off sick, and I only get statutory sick pay.

Clappingforjoy · 06/09/2019 21:55

I guess there must of been plenty like me too ashamed to reveal then

OP posts:
Outsomnia · 06/09/2019 21:55

Remember, no one knows how true posters are about anything really. Could all be rubbish.

Live your life, enjoy what you have, and dip in and out of the threads that interest you.

Anniegetyourgun · 06/09/2019 21:56

NCBabyBoy · 06/09/2019 21:56

I'm a teacher. DH has recently got a pay rise, so we've just cancelled our UC claim, as we'll now be better off using tax free childcare. We're not poor by any means, but not loaded either. We have about 3K in credit cards and loans from family and I have a hideous student loan. Not sure if this helps you. I definitely feel poor when I read the disposable income of other MNers!

Clappingforjoy · 06/09/2019 21:57

I'm in debt also from years ago when I went through a stupid phase of spending.
My life is screwed for good.

OP posts:
TroysMammy · 06/09/2019 21:58

You don't see their credit card bills, overdraft limit and loan statements though.

I've worked part time for 10 years (approx £12k pa) and full time 22 years prior to that (final salary £16k) and because of my previous marriage to a waster I have become frugal and it's a hard habit to break.

My small mortgage is paid off but I still save the monthly payment, my secondhand car was bought outright with some of my redundancy payment. I pay off my credit card bill if I use it in full. I could have a new car and exotic holidays if I blew my savings, take out loans and maxed out my credit cards, total limit £12k but I'd rather sleep soundly at night in my 30 year old bed in my ex council house with my 12 year old car in the drive.

Clappingforjoy · 06/09/2019 21:58

Sorry fattyness

Don’t believe everything you read on anonymous Internet forums, OP. Anyone can claim to be anything they want to be. Look at me, I’m the Queen. Honest!

NCBabyBoy · 06/09/2019 21:59

@FFSDH that would be me then... Are you implying that it's a shit income? I do 0.8 FTE as a teacher and that is easily 40hours/ week in term time. Whilst I think I am stupidly underpaid, I don't think I it's a crap amount of money. Many of the kids I teach have parents on far less with far more kids to support and seek to manage.

360eyes · 06/09/2019 22:00

There are a lot of of bullshitters and people who lurk around threads waiting for a stealth boast. Look on the ONS website as it is more accurate.

There are a lot of middle class people in debt up to their eyeballs, but will have a great income, but little of that is disposable. I know a few who on the surface have a great lifestyle, but on paper are worse off than I am.

Clappingforjoy · 06/09/2019 22:00

I dont even have any savings if my 13 year old car gives up I'm buggered
