Men and snacks

Because it genuinely is only men in my experience who do this.

You have a bowl of some kind of snack food: crisps/nuts etc.

They attack it like it’s the first meal they’ve had in a week. Just eat steadily through them until they’re gone (about 5 minutes or so)

What’s wrong with eating them a bit more casually. So they last through a film for example? It makes me feel like if I want to have anything approaching an equal amount I have to compete and eat fast too.

Yeah we could have separate bowls but it annoys me that there should be a need, I find it uncivilised.

Perhaps it's because I’m French and in the evening we have the crispy things with the apéritif, everyone eats a couple and we close the box and there are still some left for the next time.

My DP has just devoured a big bag of Doritos in the time than it took me to go and get a drink. He is not starving, there was no shortage of dinner. And all my previous partners and male friends have been the same!

🙄

Heartburn888 · 03/09/2019 19:50

Funny you’ve posted this, my partner has asked me for biscuits after his pizza and halloumi fries tea and now just asked me to go make the scones lol

Usually would do but I’m half human half whale at nearly 7 months so I won’t be rolling off the sofa on this occasion 😂

GreytExpectations · 03/09/2019 19:50

YABU. I devour crisps and snack food like that and I'm a woman. I'm sure it's a habit with both men and women. Definitely doesn't need a thread started on the Internet about it Hmm

goose1964 · 03/09/2019 19:52

Sorry but my DH never snacks it's me that hoovers food down.

Oliverlet · 03/09/2019 19:52

I find it weird. If you are hungry and just want to fill your stomach then have a sandwich? The little snack food are for having a little for the taste I think

Good for you OP.

Ravenblack · 03/09/2019 19:55

@Oliverlet YABU sorry OP.

It's me that's the piggy snacker in my house.

Doritoes, nuts, cheddars, and chunks of cheese (all with wine obviously!)

DH is more a fill-me-boots and not eat for 5 hours type. Not a snackers

I’m devouring a whole packet of sunflower seeds right now. I don’t want a sandwich. I want SALT. 🧂

Hirsutefirs · 03/09/2019 19:57

Definite LTB.

Redpriestandmozart · 03/09/2019 19:57

Which is why I have my own snack bowl for me to eat at my pace without big bear paws stealing them all!!

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/09/2019 20:00

Seeds are birdfood, have some cheese Grin

iklboo · 03/09/2019 20:12

If I fancy a savoury snack a sandwich isn't going to cut it. Mind you I don't snarf down big bowls of crisps like I'm about to be dropped in the wilderness for six weeks either.

I had that on my pizza. Seeds are my desert. I may or may not break open the 🍨 next.

Squirrelblanket · 03/09/2019 20:16

My husband does this. It's why I won't share 'sharing bags' of anything with him. We each have our own portion in a separate bowl so he can eat his in 30 seconds flat and I can enjoy mine at my leisure.

You’ve never lived.

iklboo · 03/09/2019 20:22

@Butchyrestingface 😄. I'm saying nowt about cheese & biscuits.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 03/09/2019 20:24

I find it weird. If you are hungry and just want to fill your stomach then have a sandwich?

But why would you have a sandwich when there’s a bowl of Doritos or whatever sat right there? It’s not like demolishing a tray of Fortnum and Mason canapés.

That said, I do find it odd that my dad will be asking my mom if there’s any houmous, guacamole etc. when she’s already said tea will be ready in 20 minutes. Then he wonders why he’s fat when he ‘hardly eats’.

Purplejay · 03/09/2019 20:25

Yabu. Have your own bowls than you can eat at whatever speed you like. I tend to snaffle snacks in a speedy fashion. Always had to reign myself in when sharing popcorn at the cinema. Much more relaxing if your portion is just for you.

Oliverlet · 03/09/2019 20:28

Oh @Butchyrestingface you have reminded me of how good toasted seeds are! I will make some and probably not share them.

To others, I’m sorry, clearly I am wrong and some people (not just men) view crisps as a meal to be consumed as quickly and efficiently as possible 🤷🏻‍♀️

As for cheese, well that’s a course in itself so perfectly understandable to devote yourself to it completely Smile

I have to have my own bowl.... Otherwise it turns into an eating competition.

Squirrelblanket · 03/09/2019 20:31

I should just point out that I love crisps and I don't eat mine slowly by any means. But my husband eats like Homer Simpson so if a we share a bag it means I get three crisps and he gets the rest and I'm not having that! Grin

SallyWD · 03/09/2019 20:31

It's not just men! I'm the same. I don't have a sweet tooth at all. I can easily resist chocolate and biscuits. Put some salty snacks out and I just can't stop eating them!

WhoLetTheFrogsOut · 03/09/2019 20:43

As I bloke I have only one counter observation and it involves women and chocolate.
