Prince Harry - AIBU?

barniee · 03/09/2019 14:13

Prince Harry saying "we can all do better" has really irked me- aibu?! He has every want and need satisfied while the majority of us and trying to do right by the environment whilst making ends meet. He is becoming very sanctimonious!

OP posts:

Given his private jets and extravagant lifestyle, he seems the worst possible person to encourage others to 'do their bit'.

I'm embarrassed for him and his wife -- they are totally oblivious to how badly they come across.

^^
This.

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 03/09/2019 17:16

Has something new happened? I thought the private Jet fiasco was a couple weeks ago? Has he been lecturing the public again?

Yes - he's just launched a (don't laugh!) eco-tourist project aimed at encouraging the tourism industry to become more sustainable at which he was asked about his travel behaviour

Dahlietta · 03/09/2019 17:18

only these 2 seem to get a bashing.

I've been bashing Harry's pontificating since he declared that we should bring back military service, but everyone thought I was unreasonable Grin

nononever · 03/09/2019 17:21

AIBU to be really confused about what Travalyst actually does?!!

Thankfully it's not just me! It was a load of waffle with no definition.

nononever · 03/09/2019 17:26

Found this:

Travalyst won’t encourage people to travel less, but it will help tourists make environmentally friendly decisions, such as providing tips for offsetting carbon emissions and supporting local communities at tourist destinations.

From Harper's Bazaar

@dottiedodah

He said today that he will use Commercial Flights personally .but wants to travel by private jet .to ensure his families safety when all travelling together

Bloody cheek!. I suppose W&K are less important then since they manage to fly commercial on occasion? Stupid thing to say.

Sorry but GrinGrinGrin

You can't make it up. I take it back. No PR firm can help them.

managedmis · 03/09/2019 17:30

He needs to stfu

managedmis · 03/09/2019 17:31

They need new PR, do Harry and Megs

SaintWillibald · 03/09/2019 17:31

To me Travelyst sounds like an app that helps you list all the places you want to visit (by private jet if possible!) 🤣

LittleMy20 · 03/09/2019 17:32

They should tell their friends and relatives to stop using the private jets, they can all do better in this small way.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/09/2019 17:35

I thought the carbon offsetting thing - aka "give us loadsamoney so we can lecture you some more" - had been largely debunked?

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 03/09/2019 17:42

I used to like him but recently he’s become a pompous tit.

dudsville · 03/09/2019 17:47

We don't need people in positions of priveledge, given to them by oppressive systems, telling the vast majority who at best are given illusions of control (democracy, voting) when we do not make laws and design products that mass produce things that are harmful to the earth and/or the structures of humanity.

No he didn't. Hmm.

He said Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe - it's generally as simple as that."

William and Kate will do exactly the same yet no one will care

nononever · 03/09/2019 18:03

They certainly didn't the name through, that's for sure. Travalyst - Travel A list.

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 03/09/2019 18:10

Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe - it's generally as simple as that.

This doesn't even make sense. It's like a sentence that's been translated from Estonian using Google Translate.

HelloyouKant · 03/09/2019 18:13

He is taking the piss now - I’ve always liked him and his brother, they were birn into something and had little choice and list their mum.
But I think he has some messiah complex going on. He needs to do one.

ChristmasLily · 03/09/2019 18:14

TheFairyCaravan

Does "opportunity based on a unique circumstance" include an Elton John summer holiday?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/09/2019 18:16

Brilliant … I might just pinch that!! Wink

MrsSlocombesPussy · 03/09/2019 18:23

The thing which annoys me with the carbon offset is the message it sends out that the rich can carry on fucking the environment as long as they pay for the privilege. And carbon offset doesn't actually cancel out the carbon which was emitted anyway.

TheFairyCaravan · 03/09/2019 18:27

If Elton John offered my family the use of his private jet I'd snap his hand off.

Littlemeadow123 · 03/09/2019 18:36

The fact of the matter is that we CAN all do better. I mean, look at Notre Dame and how quickly people donated to get it rebuilt. Brilliant. What would have been really brilliant is if the people who donated loads of money to this cause showed the same level of generosity when it comes to saving the Earth's rainforests etc etc.

Littlemeadow123 · 03/09/2019 18:37

It just goes to show how much money can be raised and how much generosity shown when people really try.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 03/09/2019 18:40

Yep. It's total bollocks but it allows the rich elite to wash their consciences clean and not change their behaviour, meanwhile the poorest in society who have zero power are being made to feel guilty for doing basics like using the tumble dryer or eating a chicken drumstick.Hmm

And these companies can make a fortune. How much of the money being funnelled to green projects through these companies actually gets used for the purposes they're meant to? I'd like to know efficient they are.

Still. It's somewhat reassuring that global temperatures can be lowered with cash.

Campervan69 · 03/09/2019 18:41

I would like to see him leading the way by caravanning in the UK for his holidays Grin I think they will decamp to the US soon however where everyone is more sycophantic to rich people.
