Prince Harry - AIBU?

barniee · 03/09/2019 14:13

Prince Harry saying "we can all do better" has really irked me- aibu?! He has every want and need satisfied while the majority of us and trying to do right by the environment whilst making ends meet. He is becoming very sanctimonious!

OP posts:
HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 03/09/2019 15:40

I think the posters pointing out that a better use of his position would to target businesses into not flying for so many meetings have got a great point. He could have easily led by example by linking up via satellite to deliver the speech.

It's not like the technology isn't available, so why don't more businesses make use of it instead of needlessly flying people to have face to face meetings in other countries?

Boysey45 · 03/09/2019 15:41

I think hes a knobhead and he comes across as being really thick as well.

coolandcalm17 · 03/09/2019 15:41

Doesn't that mean that nobody's perfect and that we can all do our bit, however small?

Or did you just want to have a go at him?

Why not, he deserves to be “had a go at”. Bloody hypocrite.

Carthage · 03/09/2019 15:44

Did you think you were being original starting this thread OP.

Yawn, yawn!

And as for being sanctimonious, God forbid anyone should want to save the planet.

People who actively don't give a shit are far worse. Phillip Green everyone? Prince Andrew.

Just bore off.

Boysey45 · 03/09/2019 15:44

Well he certainly needs to do a lot better for a start. Hes becoming a laughing stock because hes such a hypocrite. He wont understand that though because hes too stupid.

MorganKitten · 03/09/2019 15:48

He also pays taxes and served in the army but hey ho

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 03/09/2019 15:48

People who actively don't give a shit are far worse.

But that's the point he doesn't appear to actually give a shit about the things he is saying, they are just meaningless words.

You cannot possibly expect people to listen to those words and make changes if you don't actually practice what you preach?

IrmaFayLear · 03/09/2019 15:50

I don't much care for any of the royal family, but by and large we don't see their excesses. That is why we're not on here complaining about Beatrice and Eugenie, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent etc etc etc etc.

Harry has scored the own goal of actually drawing our attention to their trips. And I'm sure most people will think that actually they're doing a lot better than him, and therefore not cut down on their travel at all.

Baguetteaboutit · 03/09/2019 15:50

Harry telling us all to up our green credentials is like Andrew telling us not to be mates with paedophiles.

TheFairyCaravan · 03/09/2019 15:53

He's become a full time royal because he could go no further in the army

That's not true. He's become a Major since he left the army, so there was plenty of scope for him to stay in. He loved his time in the army. The press ruined it for him in Afghanistan too.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/09/2019 15:54

I see it's reported that Harry also claimed to fly commercial 99% of the time … it would be interesting to see that proved, though I guess the palace's frequent "no comment" on how he's travelled might make it a bit difficult

And if "occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure (his) family are safe", why not simply say so? After all, if the circumstance really was that unique it wouldn't need to happen very often would it?

Pat123dev · 03/09/2019 15:59

Harry irks me full stop. I think his games is the best thing he did. Just leave the whole climate change, unless you’re going to actually live what’s preached.

MissEliza · 03/09/2019 16:02

@TheFairyCaravan indeed media scrutiny ruined his ability to take on roles in conflict zones. I do feel sorry for him as he was clearly very good at what he did. However, would he have been capable of as desk job at a high level?

ChristmasLily · 03/09/2019 16:03

They can't be this stupid. They're being ridiculous on purpose. Come on now. If they wanted to take up a cause to warm people's hearts, why not the plight of people on their death beds being denied DLA, the people on benefits turning to food banks, or children going to school hungry in the UK? Bullshit person for a bullshit premise. Yes, I said it. There. It's all bullshit.

Andrew must be having a laugh.

heath48 · 03/09/2019 16:03

I am an ex Army Officer,QARANC.

Don’t believe any of the rubbish about how wonderful he is because of Afghanistan, all made up tripe.

He has lost the respect of a nation now, including the Armed Forces,I don’t see any way back for him now.

Yet he still keeps digging.

WaggingKnife · 03/09/2019 16:04

Well he can definitely do better.

Nightshiftmad · 03/09/2019 16:06

I think he does need to check his priviledge when he comes out with these statements or get someone to go though what the interpretation will be from what he says.

merrygoround51 · 03/09/2019 16:10

Well that was a bit of a stupid statement. He strikes me as similar to all those woke hipsters who buy tents in lidl or aldi and then leave them behind at the festival they attending, all the time posting on insta details of the climate change talks they attended.

Its hypocritical and lacking in anything other than incessant virtue signalling (we will only have 2 kids etc )

miri1985 · 03/09/2019 16:17

In no way did this conference this morning require his physical presence, he should have teleconferenced in. Likewise, if it was so dangerous for them to travel this summer, they could have stayed at home, it was non essential travel for just a bit of sunshine.

I agree that "we can all do better" and we should all do better but Harry needs to recognise that no matter what we little people do better, its a drop in the bucket compared to the harm that the 1% are doing. He should be lecturing people as wealthy as him to make better choices, his mate Elton John spends 10k on cut flowers a month for all of his homes (he makes sure every one has flowers because he doesn't know which one he'll be in)

The total for Harry's 2 flights this summer was more than 3 times the annual carbon footprint of the average Briton, or 58 times the annual emissions of someone in Lesotho. Thats before you factor in his multiple houses, other flights etc., Harry needs to start looking at himself first

CallmeAngelina · 03/09/2019 16:17

"to ensure his family are safe?"
What about the rest of us? Do our families not matter to us?

TheFairyCaravan · 03/09/2019 16:18

@MissEliza I don't see why he couldn't have stayed in the army, tbh.

I don't respect him any more or any less than anyone else who has served or I should serving in the armed forces. I think he and Meghan are getting unfairly bashed for things that other members of the Royal Family have done for years. William flew to Davos by private jet, took world leaders to task on climate change then flew home again but no one gave a shit

donquixotedelamancha · 03/09/2019 16:19

Should he just shut up then and not say anything on the subject?

Yes.

I don't understand why we are suddenly listening to a bloke who got a D in Geography (despite the best education money can buy) for our information on climate change.

There are many well qualified experts who have useful, constructive points to make.

Samcro · 03/09/2019 16:20

odd that people are so keen to slag of these two....wonder why.....
yet K &W are just as bad when it comes too all this stuff.

GrimDamnFanjo · 03/09/2019 16:20

I'd like h & m to either:
100% embrace a cause and make an actual difference in the world
Or
Stick to cutting ribbons

BlindedByTheShite · 03/09/2019 16:21

If they are so concerned about the environment, why don't the RF donate some of their $88 billion worth? No one can spend that amount of money so why don't they offload some of it to good causes?

Honestly, the amount of money they have and the luxury they live inis obscene in comparison to the hardship many British people are experiencing. I work for a charity and I see poverty every day.
