Prince Harry - AIBU?

Prince Harry saying "we can all do better" has really irked me- aibu?! He has every want and need satisfied while the majority of us and trying to do right by the environment whilst making ends meet. He is becoming very sanctimonious!

He sounds exactly like a sanctimonious first time new dad. I know someone who got out of a parking ticket in the basis that they were rushing to get home to see his baby.

It does strange things to some men (who seem to think they are the only people ever to have a baby in the history of the earth and just know things as a result).

Jayaywhynot · 03/09/2019 16:25

I loved princess diana and the boys but I'm going off Harry. He needs to practice what he preaches, no, in fact he needs to just stop preaching. The general public are not cap doffing idiots, we understand that changes need to be made and most of us are trying to do our bit. It rankles that someone of immense privilege thinks that they can tell us what to do whilst doing the opposite themselves. He needs a real advisor, someone who is actually in touch with the people

sweetiepie1979 · 03/09/2019 16:26

Yes it has irked me too...
I liked them both but he is starting to come across all’how great thou art’ lately I think he might be a bit of a prick after all....
so disappointing....

nononever · 03/09/2019 16:28

Well he can definitely do better.

Quite. He's obviously blind to that fact by flying to preach about climate change when, as others have pointed out, he could have quite easily delivered his speech via satellite.

This is spot on!!!

MoreCuddlesForMummy · 03/09/2019 16:29

How do you know his every want and need is satisfied?

InsertFunnyUsername · 03/09/2019 16:31

YANBU most people are trying to do better, don't need a royal taking private jets to tell us that.

I used to think well, a royal speaking up can only be a good thing now I think STFU.

MissEliza · 03/09/2019 16:31

@Samcro I'm starting to get sick of all royals preaching to the public.

Tellmetruth4 · 03/09/2019 16:31

FFS he can no longer open his mouth without being attacked. I’m not really a monarchist but this behaviour is weird and ridiculous.

I think some won’t be happy until he crashes in a Paris tunnel pursued by Daily Mail paparazzi. They will then name change and feign sadness calling him the People’s Prince.

Samcro · 03/09/2019 16:32

MissEliza yes but only these 2 seem to get a bashing.
weirdly more so that PA

Hell no you are not being unreasonable. I can't abide this hypocrisy and I object to be lectured to by someone with no real education to speak of, no qualification to be spouting off about the environment and a commitment to using private jets when it suits him.

The rather vile way he spoke of "commercial" (meaning normal aircraft not private jets) like it is slightly beneath him and requires a specific designation as opposed to the way most of us travel was also pretty irritating. It reminded me of Liz Hurley when she talked about "civilians" (non-celebs)

Quite apart from how I feel about it, he is badly advised. It is utter utter madness to use him for a launch of this character moments after the private jets x 6 nonsense plus it being set against the Kate & William Flybe experience. Anyone with any sense would have advised him to postpone that launch and then he could have spun it with something like

all the publicity about my & my wife's use of private jets really caused me to scrutinise my own travel and carbon footprint. I did that because I misguidedly thought it was important for security. And now as a result of all this self reflection, I have decided to partner with these travel types blah blah blah

It could have been a PR mea culpa + recovery if he'd waited. Instead it makes him look like an arse IMO.

pikapikachu · 03/09/2019 16:39

He's not wrong but I will start listening to him when he makes changes like biking to engagements and arriving in a more environmentally friendly car like a Prius rather than Bentleys, private jets
and the like.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/09/2019 16:45

To be fair not all of them do … but some who choose to indulge certainly make up for the rest when it comes to stupidity and hypocrisy

I had to smile at suggestions to use tech to videoconference climate events though. Do folk honestly think these people will trade a nice, expenses paid jolly for a boring spell in front of a camera … I mean really?

AIBU to be really confused about what Travalyst actually does?!! The website reads like a pastiche of corporate-synergy-speak backed up by random statistics. The only call to action seems to signing up to an email newsletter. So will there be Travalyst approved trips? A miles & more system? Is it a sign of approval at travel destinations similar to Tripadvisor rated hotels & restaurants? So far the only message that comes across is that all these giant firms are virtue signalling as part of a grand travel initiative that nobody knows any details about.

Would be hilarious if someone hacked the website and replaced the main image with Elton John holding fistfuls of cash to offset private jet carbon miles.

diddl · 03/09/2019 16:47

"Quite apart from how I feel about it, he is badly advised"

Is he, or does he just not listen?

It beggars belief to me that a 30 something adult needs advice on how to "behave" so as not to come across badly.

For most of us it would be common sense!

Perhaps that just shows how entrenched the entitlement is!

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 03/09/2019 16:47

My sentiments exactly! It’s completely mystifying

Wheresthebeach · 03/09/2019 16:48

I think he needs to pontificate less. He's wealthy beyond words, and hardly sets a good example. I use to like him, now I just wish he'd shut up.

Tellmetruth4 · 03/09/2019 16:51

Prince Andrew could be caught red handed with his hand up a 14 year olds skirt and any thread on this would be lucky to get 10 responses. Whereas PH and MM would be able to sustain a 1000 response thread based on what clothes they choose for their son. Weird and wrong.

Lweji · 03/09/2019 16:55

just reeks of "do as I say, not as I do"

Prince Harry saying "we can all do better"

Doesn't "we" mean him and us? Can't see your point.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 03/09/2019 17:00

Doesn't "we" mean him and us

Well obviously not as he doesn't appear to actually do anything himself to make a difference other than open his mouth and tell people to make changes.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/09/2019 17:03

Prince Andrew could be caught red handed with his hand up a 14 year olds skirt and any thread on this would be lucky to get 10 responses

Doesn't that rather ignore the threads about Andrew (allegedly) doing rather less than this, which received a colossal number of posts?

I'm never quite sure about the point of these posts suggesting that hardly anyone comments on such-and-such, when it can so instantly be shown not to be so

BigChocFrenzy · 03/09/2019 17:04

"If they wanted to take up a cause to warm people's hearts, why not the plight of people on their death beds being denied DLA, the people on benefits turning to food banks, or children going to school hungry in the UK?"

They can't, because that would be attacking government policies

The RF have to find "politically neutral" policies
and noone is actually in favour of climate change .... so that's what they chose

Should have thought about their own footprints first though

Typical RF really - WWF and protect the animals .... except when they are shooting them for fun

AspergersMum · 03/09/2019 17:06

The emperor is wearing no clothes, and thank goodness Greta Thunberg is our modern day child who refuses to believe the BS. On the one hand, we have an insanely rich royal family talking about "platforms" and "conservationism work", while flying here there and everywhere and consuming to excess. On the other hand, Greta thru her actions is actually convincing people of the important of not flying and not eating meat.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 03/09/2019 17:09

Has something new happened? I thought the private Jet fiasco was a couple weeks ago? Has he been lecturing the public again?

They need decent PR, although its been reported they've hired an American PR firm to manage them now. One that formerly managed Harvey Weinstein and he's dropped out of sight so maybe things will improve and someone will get paid £££ just for telling them both to zip it.

dottiedodah · 03/09/2019 17:15

CatherineofAragonsPrayerBook :He said today that he will use Commercial Flights personally .but wants to travel by private jet .to ensure his families safety when all travelling together!
