To be heartbroken the summers finished

I don't want my kids to go back to school, I've loved living in this halcyon bubble and I'm heartbroken it's ending. Their childhood feels like a whisper in time, I just want to press pause for a while.

I totally empathise. Every time they go back to school I’m so sad.

Spludge · 02/09/2019 22:11

😂 when I first read this I thought it was a joke. But you're not joking are you . Gosh. Must be something wrong with me. ...

ThePallidBustOfPallas · 02/09/2019 22:12

'Heartbroken' is a bit dramatic. I think I'd probably reserve that for when something truly awful happens.

annie987 · 02/09/2019 22:14

Totally agree with you. We’ve had such a lovely summer but next year they will be teens. I just wanted the days to last forever!

SallyWD · 02/09/2019 22:14

I think that's a lovely post but I'm now feeling bad that I'm delighted my kids are back at school.

Crockof · 02/09/2019 22:15

😂 @spludge I'm not even into attachment parenting and have no qualms about leaving them for a week whilst I go away with dh, but the end of the hols.. Is. Just. So. Sad.

Shock

.... Are my kids the only ones to have spent the entire summer bickering then?

queenqueenqueen · 02/09/2019 22:16

No I'm sad too but it mine are looking forward to going back. We've had a great time but excited, happy and ready for their next chapter - personally I think that's how it should be x

64sNewName · 02/09/2019 22:16

I would have laughed heartily at this a few years ago. Summer really used to drain the life out of me when the dc were smaller.

But now they’re just a little bigger, and I’m less overwhelmed by their needs and less talked out, I agree with you. I liked the gentler start to the mornings while they were off. We were companionable around the house. They are so sweet.

Mine went back ages ago though (Scotland), so I’m over it now and appreciating the peace Grin

MsMarvellous · 02/09/2019 22:17

no @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal (great name btw) mine have been rotten to each other most of the time.

PulyaSochsup · 02/09/2019 22:17

I really don’t want my children to go back to school either.

NotYourHolidayDick · 02/09/2019 22:18

I've cried all evening 😂 I used to roll my eyes at people like me.

Now I'm just a total twat. My 3 kids are ace and we've had the best time. So much fun, playing, laughing, causing mayhem.

6 weeks until October half term and already on the countdown 😍

Titsywoo · 02/09/2019 22:20

Heartbroken is a bit strong but yes I'm also sad the summer is over. I love the long holidays. My kids are teens now but we still do stuff together and it's all so relaxed. Lots of things that I love about autumn and winter so will look forward to those things instead!

Crockof · 02/09/2019 22:20

@annie987 mine are similar ages, maybe that's what makes it so hard, we are hanging onto the coat tails.

@12ThePallidBustOfPallas maybe, but I am heartbroken, these days are more precious that all my life before them, I think heartbroken is different to devestated.

You, lady, don’t know what you’re talking about! 😂

Joking aside, sounds like you’re really mindful of how fast they are growing.
But rather than feeling sad, be thankful you got the chance to spend the summer with them, really focus on that, rathen than the fact it’s gone. It’s tainting the present.

Parttimewasteoftime · 02/09/2019 22:21

Yep mine have fought tooth and nail spent all spare money eaten us out of house and home. Pretty sure the neighbours hate us (I would) but 😢 don't want them to go back.
They do bye Mum 💙

Kanga83 · 02/09/2019 22:21

Mine have bickered all day every day this holiday. No matter where we have been- on holiday, a day trip, at home. Clashed massively. I have found it exhausting and cried lots. They are 6 and 3 and I cannot wait for them to go to school and nursery and miss each other. I'm sad they are growing up too quickly, I'm not sad that come Wednesday I will be doing a happy dance until I miss them again.

Bunnylady53 · 02/09/2019 22:24

I have mixed feelings tbh. DD10 thrives on routine so sometimes we struggle in the holidays, although actually this summer has been pretty good. My main feeling is disbelief that she is going into year 6. It only seems 5 minutes since she was starting Foundation stage as they call it at her school. And this morning we had the letter about secondary school choices 😢

Shutupseaguls · 02/09/2019 22:24

Last year I would have said no but this holiday has been great. They still fight but things just seem so much calmer.

Shutupseaguls · 02/09/2019 22:25

Also part of me being upset is I have to go back to work on wednesday.

DramaAlpaca · 02/09/2019 22:27

Mine are grown up now but I was always utterly delighted when it was time for my DC to go back to school & I could get a bit of peace & quiet again.

clucky3 · 02/09/2019 22:27

My two have bickered and fought for the entire 6 weeks. It's been an absolutely shitty holiday, the worst we've ever had. I can't wait for the little fuckers to get back to school. Heartbroken I definitely am not.

megletthesecond · 02/09/2019 22:29

You don't work then Wink.
We've still had 7am alarms and been rushing out the house this summer. I've had time off but very little fun. Mine fight too much.
Roll on Thursday. I'm at the end of my tether.

Wellmet · 02/09/2019 22:29

I'm a teacher, so agree with you entirely!
As others have said, it's especially nice now they're older and not so draining. My eldest two are teens now, and it's been lovely just relaxing with them all summer.

Josephinebettany · 02/09/2019 22:30

Completely agree. Love the relaxed carefree summer fun.
