To think this neighbour is a CF and tell her to do one

OMG I'm fumin!!!

So DS2 got back this lunchtime from a residential event and DS1 is leaving tomorrow for the same one of his age group, we only have the one sleeping bag so I needed a really quick turnaround of washing and getting it dry by this evening. I know its still decent weather but its been cloudy all day and weather app said a 73% chance of rain so I decided to tumble dry it. Dryer is out in the garage which backs onto another road. Garage door is closed so I can barely hear it going from in the house. This is all happening at about 3/4 pm by the way so not exactly late!!

Anyway the sleeping bag has been in the dryer for about 45 mins and I'm on the sofa absolutely sparko when theres a knock at the door. I answer it and theres this random woman standing there.

Her: Is it your tumble drier I can hear going on x road
Me: Err yes probably why
Her: Well its very bad for the environment to have a tumble drier going , especially at this time of year
Me: OK well I'm sorry but I really need to use it today
Her: Well I'm from x house behind your garden (she isn't, I know the woman who lives there) so please turn it off
Me: Nah sorry love think I will keep using it. Bye

I am well pissed off, OH reckons I should have just shut the door in her face as we don't even know her but I'm like ok well fine not really a big deal.

Except then 20 mins later the door goes again and this stupid bint is back! Saying I really need to turn the drier off as her dogs are trying to sleep (wtf?!) and if its still going by the time she gets back to her house she will report me to the council. Fuck that noise!!! Slammed the door in her face and yelled at the cheeky bitch to fuck off!!!

So mumsnetters aibu to run the drier all evening and night empty just to spite her?

yes you are. it would be very childish and actually if she can hear the dryer in her house it could be a Statutory Noise Nuisance. lots of neighbour disputes start like this and then they go on and on and on and on causing everyone upset and grief. be the bigger the person.

elvis86 · 02/09/2019 17:54

YANBU.

What a loon. And a CF.

I don't blame you for telling her to fuck off the second time either.

CallmeAngelina · 02/09/2019 17:54

Absolutely none of her business! What a nerve.

M3lon · 02/09/2019 17:55

This is why I would quite like to livein the middle of nowhere with no neighbours...then none of them could turn out to be the OP.

YABU.

FabulouslyFab · 02/09/2019 17:55

Please don’t do that - think of your electric bill!!! 😉

OnlyYellowRoses · 02/09/2019 17:56

I could understand if you lived in a flat at it was midnight but in this instance I would have had exactly the same response as you 😁

elvis86 · 02/09/2019 17:56

So it's 50/50 at this stage whether a neighbour knocking on your door twice to lecture you about using your tumble dryer in the middle of the day is unreasonable. Only on Mumsnet! Grin

HollowTalk · 02/09/2019 17:56

Why didn't you challenge her on where she lived?

BeanBag7 · 02/09/2019 17:57

I wouldn't have "yelled" at her to "fuck off" - that's quite excessive. Closing the door on her, ignoring her complaints, not answering the door to her again - all fine responses which would have achieved the same result.

She is being unreasonable to ask you to turn off the dryer and to pester you about it but I think your response is OTT.

Sparklingbrook · 02/09/2019 17:57

How loud must the tumble drier be? Is it faulty?

Bouffalant · 02/09/2019 17:58

Her dogs are trying to sleep. Grin

HeronLanyon · 02/09/2019 17:58

She has been unreasonable.
You would be unreasonable to stoop to her own level. Don’t do it op no matter how tempting. Stay ‘sparko on the sofa !’

DelphiniumBlue · 02/09/2019 17:58

If she's come and complained twice, it must be quite loud.

EggysMom · 02/09/2019 17:58

Think how many times people with genuine noise nuisance neighbours report their problems to the council with no resolution ... nothing will come from one call.

And I don't blame you for telling her to fuck off the second time either.

msmith501 · 02/09/2019 17:58

Go to her house and have a listen and then agree on a plan?

KezzabellaB · 02/09/2019 17:59

I think I'd have said 'alright love', smiled and shut the door

And ignored her

WorraLiberty · 02/09/2019 17:59

She said her dogs were trying to sleep, did she?

ShitTalks · 02/09/2019 18:00

Hi I'm obvs kidding about leaving it on all night, the lekky bills would be mad :D an yeah like I say I dont think its that loud, if the garage door is closed I normally have to physically go in there or at least open my back door to work out if its still running orr not!!!

OP posts:
Blueoasis · 02/09/2019 18:00

She is crazy. She wants you to not use a tumble dryer during the day? There's no noise issue there.

I wouldn't run it all night though. But I would use it more often during the day. We use our tumble dryer all year round. If we didn't, we'd very rarely have the heating off in the house trying to dry clothes or trying to avoid the frequent rain showers. No one has ever complained. But they aren't insane.

EmmiJay · 02/09/2019 18:04

She's obviously bored and looking for a fight. Silly goat.

LazyFace · 02/09/2019 18:04

I agree with her on the environment but the dogs are trying to sleep is 😂

GinNotGym19 · 02/09/2019 18:05

It can’t be the first time you’ve used the tumble dryer so it can’t be that loud if no ones ever mentioned it before.
Even if it was noisy you’re allowed to make noise in the day time!
My next door neighbour is really irritating and has a loud booming voice and laugh. They had a really loud party yesterday in the day and all I could hear was her shrieking voice through my house. Didn’t occur to me to complain, people are allowed to live!

TellySavalashairbrush · 02/09/2019 18:05

That’s hilarious, silly woman. Would love to see the expression of the person from the council taking her phone call 🙄

youarenotkiddingme · 02/09/2019 18:05

I live in a flat. I'm the only one with a washer/dryer.

My neighbours (only 4 flats) ALL know they are welcome in an emergency to give me stuff to bung in it.

(Lived here 12 years and only done 4 loads in total for neighbours).

Can't imagine any of them complaining even if they didn't have that offer. (Ones a bit nutty and obsessive over communal washing line mind!)

But if they did I think I'd react the same at 4pm! I'd think if it was 6am or 10pm they'd probably have a point!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/09/2019 18:06

Gordon Bennett, what does she do if anyone uses the hoover?
