OMG I'm fumin!!!

So DS2 got back this lunchtime from a residential event and DS1 is leaving tomorrow for the same one of his age group, we only have the one sleeping bag so I needed a really quick turnaround of washing and getting it dry by this evening. I know its still decent weather but its been cloudy all day and weather app said a 73% chance of rain so I decided to tumble dry it. Dryer is out in the garage which backs onto another road. Garage door is closed so I can barely hear it going from in the house. This is all happening at about 3/4 pm by the way so not exactly late!!

Anyway the sleeping bag has been in the dryer for about 45 mins and I'm on the sofa absolutely sparko when theres a knock at the door. I answer it and theres this random woman standing there.

Her: Is it your tumble drier I can hear going on x road
Me: Err yes probably why
Her: Well its very bad for the environment to have a tumble drier going , especially at this time of year
Me: OK well I'm sorry but I really need to use it today
Her: Well I'm from x house behind your garden (she isn't, I know the woman who lives there) so please turn it off
Me: Nah sorry love think I will keep using it. Bye

I am well pissed off, OH reckons I should have just shut the door in her face as we don't even know her but I'm like ok well fine not really a big deal.

Except then 20 mins later the door goes again and this stupid bint is back! Saying I really need to turn the drier off as her dogs are trying to sleep (wtf?!) and if its still going by the time she gets back to her house she will report me to the council. Fuck that noise!!! Slammed the door in her face and yelled at the cheeky bitch to fuck off!!!

So mumsnetters aibu to run the drier all evening and night empty just to spite her?

How close is she? How loud is your drier? I can’t hear mine if I’m in the kitchen and it’s on in the utility next door. She doesn’t sound well.

ShitTalks · 02/09/2019 18:10

Oh and btw I sent OH down Lidls to get some bits, he took a detour to the WTF aisle and has come back with... a second sleeping bag!!

What a crazy woman 🤣 she’s got a bloody cheek

HeronLanyon · 02/09/2019 18:12

I always wash new sleeping bags - then it might need to be dried - just saying Grin actually agree with the awful cost of dryers. Never use mine !

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 02/09/2019 18:14

Fuck her dogs, how about you were trying to sleep when she rudely knocked on her door?! I would be livid too. Cheeky bitch. I wish noise from a dryer was the only noise I had to worry about in my street. Neighbour's toddler screams constantly and I can hear it through the walls.

Hidingtonothing · 02/09/2019 18:16

I'll come and be your neighbour OP, my NDN has had (rubbish) music blasting out with all the windows open all afternoon and the street is full of kids having a screaming competition, your tumble dryer sounds idyllic to me! Grin

ratspeaker · 02/09/2019 18:16

You really should have offered to go stand in her house and listen to see how loud it was
" Lets go round round right now"
Just to see the look on her face if she doesnt live there and you carry on up the garden path.

I cannot see any council thinking it was anything other than normal household noise.

Am I the only one with an image of her walking about with a dog at her shoulder rubbing its back saying there there? 🤣🐶

TartanCurtains1 · 02/09/2019 18:21

As others have said, sounds like your reaction was totally over the top. Telling someone to fuck off?!

You'd have been better to offer to go and have a listen "and see if there's anything we can do about the noise in future" or something. Then you'd actually know if it was a problem and if she's in a different house or whatever she'd be the one looking like the idiot.

Disfordarkchocolate · 02/09/2019 18:22

My next-door neighbour has their tumble dryer running for hours, it's next to my living room wall so the sound drives me insane. I don't complain as it's not loud it's just annoying, anyone trying to class it as a nuisance would be laughed at. Just ignore her.

Tyersal · 02/09/2019 18:23

Are you sure the woman you know hadn't moved out and this one moved in

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 02/09/2019 18:23

Oh wait you don't have those awful plastic ball things that are meant to help dry things quicker do you? My ExH used to insist on using them and the bloody noise was awful - CLANK CLANK CLANK!

Tistheseason17 · 02/09/2019 18:24

she is bonkers.
I would not have answered the door the second time.

HeronLanyon · 02/09/2019 18:25

And the zip can make a lot of noise and if I’m empty shed. Hmm beginning to think she may just have had a point but it all got heated !

TSSDNCOP · 02/09/2019 18:26

Yep. It would’ve been a “fuck off” from me too on the second knock. If she’d woken me up I might have just killed her the first knock simply to save time.

Jux · 02/09/2019 18:28

You should have done this! Next time eh? Grin

Jesaminecollins · 02/09/2019 18:30

Just ignore her, some people love to complain all the time - we have a moaning minnie in our road she once phoned the council to complain about dandelions on some green belt land by the side of us - it seems the seeds were coming into her conservatory and she had to keep vacuuming them up Grin

LakieLady · 02/09/2019 18:30

My neighbours used to run theirs late at night, and even though it's in their garage, on the far side of the house from our party wall, I could hear it really clearly and it used to keep me awake.

It never occurred to me to complain though, they had 3 kids and shedloads of laundry to dry. And it's not the cuntiest thing they've done, so would be a long way down my list of complaints if I was minded to complain!

RiftGibbon · 02/09/2019 18:32

What you need is to live in a 7 bedroom house with 15 acres and some horses. But then you'd probably have people trying to photograph them. Then again, the noise of the tumble-drier might keep them away.

IamHyouweegobshite · 02/09/2019 18:32

I wouldn't leave on all night, think of your bill.

Having said that, can you tumble sleeping bags? I always thought the heat would damage the shiny side.

DarkDarkNight · 02/09/2019 18:32

YANBU I don’t think the Council would care. It’s completely normal domestic noise and to be expected when you have close neighbours. My drier is in the garage and while I can hear it if I’m stood outside the garage door I can’t hear it in the house.

I wouldn’t have engaged with her or apologised in the first place. Knocking on your door to comment that a drier is bad for the environment is unhinged. You don’t need to explain yourself to her.

DonnaLee8 · 02/09/2019 18:33

That woman doesn't realise how lucky she is if the only noise she has to complain about is your tumble drier.
(It's a good job she doesn't live near me and my two dogs - one of which barks at the sound of a worm's fart! 😞
She'd have something to complain about then.)
If she calls again, tell her you're going with her to her house to hear the noise - and go to do it. She'll be down your path in a shot! 😂

grumiosmum · 02/09/2019 18:34

I don't believe you OP.

Choufleur · 02/09/2019 18:34

I’m sure her dogs must sometimes bark. Next time you hear them go round and complain
