OMG I'm fumin!!!

So DS2 got back this lunchtime from a residential event and DS1 is leaving tomorrow for the same one of his age group, we only have the one sleeping bag so I needed a really quick turnaround of washing and getting it dry by this evening. I know its still decent weather but its been cloudy all day and weather app said a 73% chance of rain so I decided to tumble dry it. Dryer is out in the garage which backs onto another road. Garage door is closed so I can barely hear it going from in the house. This is all happening at about 3/4 pm by the way so not exactly late!!

Anyway the sleeping bag has been in the dryer for about 45 mins and I'm on the sofa absolutely sparko when theres a knock at the door. I answer it and theres this random woman standing there.

Her: Is it your tumble drier I can hear going on x road
Me: Err yes probably why
Her: Well its very bad for the environment to have a tumble drier going , especially at this time of year
Me: OK well I'm sorry but I really need to use it today
Her: Well I'm from x house behind your garden (she isn't, I know the woman who lives there) so please turn it off
Me: Nah sorry love think I will keep using it. Bye

I am well pissed off, OH reckons I should have just shut the door in her face as we don't even know her but I'm like ok well fine not really a big deal.

Except then 20 mins later the door goes again and this stupid bint is back! Saying I really need to turn the drier off as her dogs are trying to sleep (wtf?!) and if its still going by the time she gets back to her house she will report me to the council. Fuck that noise!!! Slammed the door in her face and yelled at the cheeky bitch to fuck off!!!

So mumsnetters aibu to run the drier all evening and night empty just to spite her?

She's a nutter.

WhoLetTheFrogsOut · 02/09/2019 18:37

What a nutjob!

I've had several people complain to me about idling my engine which I do for a minute or two after pulling up. I can actually kind of see their point although I'd never lecture a stranger about such things.

However, as my car has a turbo it's not good to shut it off straight away after a spirited drive as the turbo keep spinning without any oil flow.

AllFourOfThem · 02/09/2019 18:38

She is BU but I’m staggered the sleeping bag takes 65 mins to dry. Mine come out of the washing machine damp rather than wet and dry quickly.

Howyiz · 02/09/2019 18:40

Well done op! You probably have boots that need to be dried! Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/09/2019 18:42

Her dogs are trying to sleep

She has got the wrong type of dogs. Ours (we have four) have been known to sleep through people hammering on the door to deliver parcels. It is apparently beyond their remit to do more than lift an eyebrow. Giving a "wuff" to alert me to a visitor, when I'm out in the garden hanging out washing, is apparently a very unreasonable thing to expect.

Am I the only one with an image of her walking about with a dog at her shoulder rubbing its back saying there there?

Not now you're not. Grin

Yep. It would’ve been a “fuck off” from me too on the second knock. If she’d woken me up I might have just killed her the first knock simply to save time.

Good advice here OP Grin

FairyDust92 · 02/09/2019 18:58

Is she paying your electric bill?
OP could you please be more considerate next time and be aware that there could be sleeping little dogs trying to take their afternoon nap. 😉

ShirleyPhallus · 02/09/2019 19:00

Not the point of the thread but why are you washing the sleeping bag each time rather than using sheet liners?

colourlessgreenidea · 02/09/2019 19:14

I don't believe you OP.

How very dare you!!! Shock

Aaarrgghhh · 02/09/2019 19:41

What an oddball. She would hate me then because I use mine multiple times a week.

Aaarrgghhh · 02/09/2019 19:45

ShirleyPhallus The outside parts could need washing. I’ve never heard of a sheet liner in a sleeping bag before.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/09/2019 19:51

I’ve never heard of a sheet liner in a sleeping bag before.

Look em up, it saves a lot of time and energy if someone’s just slept in the sleeping bag rather than rolling around the ground with it

makingmammaries · 02/09/2019 19:52

Sheet liners tangle around your legs in a very horrible way.

mangomama91 · 02/09/2019 19:56

Who is she? Mr Heckles from friends ? 😂😂

ShirleyPhallus · 02/09/2019 21:29

Sheet liners tangle around your legs in a very horrible way.

But if the alternative is to wash the sleeping bags themselves after each use and in this case, wash and dry within 24 hours, presumably sometimes may be useful

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 02/09/2019 21:35

How loud is your drier iF you can hear it in the house from the garage?? Shock I can’t even hear mine in the living room, from the kitchen right next door. sounds like you need to get it checked over if it’s that loud. Where there trainers in it?

Butchyrestingface · 02/09/2019 21:43

@ShitTalks Have you established where she lives yet?

Sweetpeach3 · 02/09/2019 21:57

Haha cheeky bitch. She woke you the first time so I couldn't give a shit about her dogs trying to sleep. The will sleep through anything if their tired ! My dog sleeps through the kids dressing her up ?? I don't blame you for slamming the door in her face and report her to the council for pestering over s tumble dryer mid day!! Mines on all the time in winter as We all like to get out the shower and have a nice warm fluffy towel? Not a crime soz x

recrudescence · 02/09/2019 21:57

All the dogs I’ve ever had basically sleep at every opportunity they can. I don’t think it’s terribly realistic to try to respect their bedtime.

Dita73 · 02/09/2019 22:26

YANBU!! Definitely keep it running all night but don’t leave it empty, put a couple of bricks and a load of gravel in it! What a cow!

PreseaCombatir · 02/09/2019 22:31

Omg, I’d love to be the council working getting the complaint that someone’s drying their washing in the daytime, and it’s waking up the dogs 😂😂

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 02/09/2019 22:47

Do people honestly do stuff like this in real life? I can’t get my breath!

I’d just stand there gorming if someone tried to have a go at me for something this ridiculous 😂 how the hell can they even hear it?! Do they have your garage bugged!!

Cindy55 · 02/09/2019 22:50

I live in a semi with neighbours garage attached to our house. I hear their tumble dryer every day and night, I think they must programme it to start at odd times. It’s not a big deal it becomes white noise after a while, I rather hear a tumble dryer then dogs barking all night.

PotterHead1985 · 02/09/2019 23:04

@DonnaLee8 worms fart!!! 😂 snort

My neighbours washer and dryer are in her shed. For context we have approx 10ft from our back door to her shed. The noise doesn't bother me. The god awful stink of whatever powder/softener she uses does. It reeks. And Christ knows how much she is using for us to smell it outdoors so pungently. But it's not something I'd knock on about. I'll just quietly seeth instead!

Ohmygoodnessreally · 02/09/2019 23:47

Indeed...

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/09/2019 10:14

Was the zip on the sleeping back knocking on the drum? That can be pretty annoying. But still in daylight hours that's unreasonable to object. It's none of her business how much energy you use in your own home! But...you were rude. Telling someone to fuck off is very aggressive.
