Just saw this text on my partners phone. Is there any innocent explanation?

AIBU to assume this is a scam text or is there an innocent explanation?

Well if the text isn’t a scam. What would be the innocent explanation. That’s it’s above board and your dp is playing away. I’m sorry to say this but. Either way it doesn’t look good, does it. Flowers

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/09/2019 23:39

Does anyone know whether pof sends a code like this? It seems an unlikely scam. Sorry OP.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/09/2019 23:40

I suppose it’s possible someone’s made a typo in their mobile number.

Do you have any single friends who can look him up?

looondonn · 01/09/2019 23:45

Sorry doesn't look good

This is what you get when you sign up to PoF
Sorry :(

Mir9imid · 01/09/2019 23:46

What would the scam be, you can't reply and no link, sadly I think the obvious explanation is the most likely, sorry Flowers

Rosielily · 01/09/2019 23:48

This is POF's verification code. Perhaps set up your own fake account to try to find him. However, you can search anonymously on POF - ie you can look at profiles whilst your own is hidden and he may well be doing that. If that is what he is going then you won't be able to see if he is there or not.

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 01/09/2019 23:48

The only innocent explanation is can think of is someone's typed their number in wrong. It does happen, which is presumably why they send an activation code. I really hope that's the explanation, have you got any reason to suspect your partner?

Rosielily · 01/09/2019 23:49

*doing not going!!

FlamedToACrisp · 01/09/2019 23:51

Could you sign in using the code and see if it works?

Pretenditsaplan · 01/09/2019 23:54

Showing the number it came from would be a help as you can search that number on google and it usually tells you where its from

Pretenditsaplan · 01/09/2019 23:56

From the pof site they do send texts as verification with a 6 digit code.

AIBU to assume this is a scam text or is there an innocent explanation?
Areyouthinkingtheworst · 02/09/2019 00:04

I’ve only realised I didn’t get the number it came from on the photo which was a bit stupid. To be honest I was fairly taken aback when I saw it and wasn’t really thinking. I really just can’t get my head around it. We were actually on holiday with the kids at the time. Does that make you think he would have created a profile then or would being abroad make you change your profile or something. I’ve never used Pof so have no clue. I’d just be amazed if he did it on holiday as it wasn’t even that late in the evening and we were in a eurocamp caravan so hardly space to hide and do it. Genuinely don’t really know how to deal with this.

I've had several texts from Uber with verification codes, but I've never used Uber - I assume someone has put their mobile number in wrong. So it could be innocent....

user1473878824 · 02/09/2019 00:20

OP, what’s your relationship like l? In the nicest possible way, if you’re in trouble then this isn’t great. If it’s all been fine then benefit of the doubt. If I saw this text on DP’s phone I would go mental but would also believe him if he said he had no fucking idea what was going on. If we were having a bad patch... I probably wouldn’t.

Justaboy · 02/09/2019 00:20

Odds on its a mistake but I suppose Ten pages later it'll be LTB :!.

Lets hope not :!

Pretenditsaplan · 02/09/2019 00:28

Ive tried googling about pof verifaction codes being a scam and ive found nothing. Most of it is partners asking when theyve found the same kind of text if its a scam like theyre partners are saying. If he doesnt know youve seen it yet can you check the website history on his phone? Of course he could of used incognito mode so there wouldnt be a trail. Chances are if he has started a profile hes got his account to always logged in. Might be worth borrowing his phone as your internets being slow and you want to check the weather tomorrow. If you happen to go on pof and it auto logs in youll know. If he catches you you were trying to look at a funny account one of your friends told you about last week but havnt had chance to look at yet as your internets so slow.

Pretenditsaplan · 02/09/2019 00:32

If he prys more you were just clicking the linknsent to you but it took you to the main page. You have to logged in to see it. shrugs oh well. Ill get xxxx (name of friend you know ill back you up) to send me a screenshot later if she can find it again.

Monsterpage · 02/09/2019 00:35

Actually I got something similar to this on my work phone but for tinder. I hadn’t signed up for it. My husband saw the message when it came through as my phone was charging in the kitchen!
He did ask me what was going on but believed me when I said I had no idea. My first response was “I’m so tired most of the time I don’t always brush my hair, the last thing I want to do is “duck” around with some random!”

Pretenditsaplan · 02/09/2019 00:37

Maybe im a cynical bitch (yeah i probably am) but at least if you find out its a yes you start planning what you want to do next.

Seren85 · 02/09/2019 00:39

I keep getting quotes to buy my car from a well known cash for cars website. I've never requested a quote and assume it is someone mistyping their mobile number. If it were a dating app I'd have told DH, not that he ever checks my phone, that it was a random message. Just in case.

NetballHoop · 02/09/2019 00:41

Any site that has ever sent me a code has done it within seconds of me registering. Surely if he was cheating he would have responded and deleted the text immediately.

Catsandchardonnay · 02/09/2019 00:42

I had a load of texts about some deliveries from stores I hadn’t ordered from. Phoned my credit card company, they reckoned someone was using my cellphone number in error. Hope that’s the same explanation here.

GigiIdid · 02/09/2019 00:42

POF send the verification text upon sign up, I’d be surprised if it’s a scam, sorry OP.

If he has created a profile, at the minimum explanation is he’s done it abroad to look at the local women with no fear that he’ll be spotted on the site by an acquaintance.

FeeFee832 · 02/09/2019 00:43

Oh no... doesn't look like a scam. 😩

Sorry op. X

PeevedNiamh · 02/09/2019 00:49

It could be someone didn't want to put in their number in case of spam phonecalls so created what they thought was a fake number not realising they would need a verification code. I never put in my real number unless I have to - sorry to anyone I've inadvertently spammed! I make up landmine numbers too... Feeling a bit guilty now
