"Oh my God Jane, you eat your food so fast!"

No you fucking idiot, I started my food before you did because you were talking endlessly.
But thanks for making me feel like a fat greedy pig in front of all the other wedding guests at our table.

AIBU? Or was she BU?

YANBU. I hate this!

Ginfordinner · 01/09/2019 07:41

I would never say this but I might think it. I am not someone who feels full after half a lettuce leaf and think that I have a normal appetite. The other evening we had a takeaway with some friends. The portion sizes are very generous, and I had a curry and rice (of which I ate just over half). My friend had curry, rice and naan, and ate all of it.

So yes, I did think "wow, you eat a lot"

NoDontLookAtMeImShy · 01/09/2019 07:42

But you don't say it.

Especially in front of other people.

"Wow, you two eat so fast" gem from my mum there.

PurpleFlower1983 · 01/09/2019 07:48

I am a fast eater and I’ve had comments before. I didn’t used to be but since teaching and having to wolf lunch down in about 8 minutes it has become a habit. I’ve really tried to change it as I find it a bit embarrassing!

soulrider · 01/09/2019 07:48

I'm not sure that saying you eat fast has the same connotations as saying you eat a lot. I've had the fast comment several times and I've only ever interpreted it as a comment on the speed I eat. I've never thought it was someone implying I'm a fat greedy pig.

Teateaandmoretea · 01/09/2019 07:49

Why is this such an issue?

People comment on this all the time because factually speaking I eat fast ..... it isn't a moral failing.

NoDontLookAtMeImShy · 01/09/2019 07:51

It's an issue because how a person eats shouldn't be commented on.

Equally "Jane you take so long to eat your food."
Would be inappropriate.

Northernsoullover · 01/09/2019 07:51

I'm a size 10 and people commenting on my eating habits has been a lifelong pleasure Hmm
Chocolate is guaranteed to get a comment, or a fry up. In fact from now on if anyone says 'how can you eat that and stay so slim?' I'll reply truthfully its because I don't then spend the rest of the day stuffing my face.

HeyitsPorscha · 01/09/2019 07:54

"I grew up with Monika, if you didn't eat fast you didnt eat!'

Justme1234567 · 01/09/2019 07:54

Yanbu!! It’s so fucking annoying, especially if your big like me c

Maybe she hadn't eaten lunch. I can eat a big meal, doesn't make me a greedy pig, just very hungry at that particular mealtime.

Blingysolightly · 01/09/2019 08:04

I hear you @Northernsoullover! I am a size 6. I don't diet, I don't restrict what I eat but I do eat very slowly and have a smaller appetite compared to other people. I would never dream of commenting on how much anyone else eats, but as you say everyone commenting on how much I eat habit has been a lifelong pleasure!Hmm

EmeraldShamrock · 01/09/2019 08:09

I eat like a vaccum my Dsis chews every piece carefully, I am a size 8 Dsis is a 14.
I doubt it was about your size she probably said it and realised how it sounded afterwards.
People always comment on my food if I left to much or ate to much there is nearly always with a suspicious eye "how do you put it away" or "Have a few more bites you need it"

EmeraldShamrock · 01/09/2019 08:10

To add yanbu. You should not comment on someones food.

Dogsarebetterthancatsok · 01/09/2019 08:14

DH eats fast. I hate it. Makes him look greedy

shearwater · 01/09/2019 08:18

I think it's generally quite rude.

NoDontLookAtMeImShy · 01/09/2019 08:19

I should hope it wasn't, I'm not even slightly overweight.

But that's neither here nor there.
She shouldn't have commented. It's rude.

Dogasarebarking I didn't eat my food fast. I am not greedy, nor do I look it.

I just started my food before her because she talked so much.

OP posts:
NoDontLookAtMeImShy · 01/09/2019 08:23

Also - I ate my main way before her as well.

But that was because I put significantly less on my plate than her.
She made a big deal of "oh this is so filling!" And leaving food on her plate.
That's because she put so much food on her plate.

I put little food on my plate, ate it before her and my plate was empty.

I'm guessing she clocked that first, and that's why she felt the need to comment on the dessert afterwards.

I tend to agree with you, only because I have a friend who has lost a lot of weight and I suspect has developed an eating disorder. At breakfast in a hotel recently another friend was saying " Kate are you hungry, god you must be really hungry to eat all that" . Made me really uncomfortable

NoDontLookAtMeImShy · 01/09/2019 08:24

I've clearly spent way too much time thinking about this.

The last post has clearly shown that!

And there I shall end it, and move on.

I assumed you were But thanks for making me feel like a fat greedy pig
People often say it to me it never makes me feel fat as I am not fat.
Your choice of words fat greedy pig are insensitive.

NoDontLookAtMeImShy · 01/09/2019 08:28

Yes they were insensitive words.

To myself Hmm

OP posts:
EmeraldShamrock · 01/09/2019 08:32

Ok. I am sure none of the other guests gave a shit on how much you both plated or how fast you finished yours.
Speak to your friend about her silly comment.
