AIBU - my wife tore up my cardboard box and I'm mad as hell

I saved a cardboard box from Lidl which was exactly the right size for the thing I wanted to do. I left it in the porch. It wasn't in anybody's way. I came back to the porch within an hour and my wife had torn it up and put it in the recycling bin. We had a big bustup over this and she won't admit her mistake. She offered me another box from her collection but it wasn't the same size so not as efficient for the thing I'm trying to do. AIBU?

I like boxes too.

@MichaelMumsnet - NOOOOO!!!

Mumsymumphy · 31/08/2019 23:27

YABU - a Lidl box indeed! Not Waitrose? No wonder your wife ripped it up, you heathen.

Please can I have the replacement box? I'm collecting boxes and need a box to keep them all in. Thanks

What's worse than paper tits?
A cardboard box.

Walnutwhipster · 31/08/2019 23:30

@Bigmango I know the guy who wrote that. Maybe it's him.

Mumsymumphy · 31/08/2019 23:32

I don't remember ordering 2 cats off Amazon?

Mumsy is spot on you can’t leave a Lidl box in the porch for all and sundry to see, cheapskate.
Next time cover up Lidl with black biro/ write Not in front of it and it’ll be there then you get back.

Clovko · 31/08/2019 23:56

I’m glad we’re normal here.

You see it’s DH with a huge collection of boxes, I do not care and just ask him to fetch stuff from the garage to avoid acknowledging them.

SimplySteveRedux · 01/09/2019 00:04

Moving home, can I borrow some unripped boxes? Wink

ErrolTheDragon · 01/09/2019 00:16

My parents once had a box exactly the right size for the thing they wanted to do, which was to put the cat in to take him to the vets.

You've never seen a box ripped apart so quickly.

Elieza · 01/09/2019 00:36

Wish I had a porch to put my cardboard box in.
Mine has to lie outside in the rain.
I can tell it’s unhappy as it’s corners have all squished and flopped down......Grin

Meanpeoplesuck · 01/09/2019 00:37

I'm a bit late to this party, but, @venusclatrap - your post made me laugh so much x

k1233 · 01/09/2019 00:42

Was going to say that tearing the box up was probably the only way to get rid of the clowder of cats that decided to move in to the porch in the nano second that you left the known cat trap unattended... But others posted pics of similarly effective cat traps. So really, was your wife just saving you from being overrun by cats?

Herefortheduration · 01/09/2019 00:50

Are you absolutely sure she tore it up, it sound suspicious to me, I reckon she stole it and added it to her collection!

Miniloso · 01/09/2019 00:53

Hmmmm, maybe you need to give her box more attention 😉

FlamedToACrisp · 01/09/2019 00:56

Clearly the overly aggressive ripping of the box represents your DW's feelings towards you which is a red flag, OP. Have you noticed any other signs of these tendencies such as beating eggs, chopping wood, pulling the duvet to her side etc? I notice OP has not responded so hope the situation has not escalated (worried)

Wauden · 01/09/2019 01:26

This is my first LTB.

Angelf1sh · 01/09/2019 08:07

YABVU. I would only use boxes from Fortnam & Mason. Waitrose at a pinch.

Heartlessshrew · 01/09/2019 08:30

Yes. Don't be so ridiculous.

TheNoodlesIncident · 01/09/2019 08:43

To be fair, I can see OP's point of view if the said box was double-walled and thus sturdy enough to take any abuse Royal Mail/couriers can chuck at it, as well as being perfectly sized to accommodate the precious content and attendant foam peanuts and bubblewrap.

I was worried this thread was DH until I remembered we have a certain place for boxes and wrappings - nothing fancy, just a particular spot on the dining room floor - that need disposing of. And that I haven't ripped up a box recently. Plus, he would mention it rather than posting bitter threads on MN (although that would guarantee I'd see his complaint) nor would he post and run, as he Knows My Feelings On Posters Who Do That.

We post a lot of crap out, as well as having a cat, so we know the importance of boxes.

sashh · 01/09/2019 08:52

But your poor wife, the Lidl box could have contaminated her boxes if they had come into contact, a porch is't enough to negate the 'Lidlgerm'.

chocolatesolveseverything · 01/09/2019 09:01

This post brings back memories. Over a decade ago in a previous job in HR I once knew an employee who went off sick for a month with stress because a trainee manager had thrown away the employee's empty cardboard box collection on his day off. The employee was genuinely irate and extremely emotional about the situation Confused.

Bigmango · 01/09/2019 09:06

@Walnutwhipster oohhhh get you. Did he also make up the dance?

00100001 · 01/09/2019 09:10

I think @MichaelMumsnet must have got a bit excited by the cardboard box... and got trapped underneath and has been stuck there, waiting for someone to rescue him

I kind of want a cat now.
